1 Introduction 1.1 Scope

This deliverable presents all the dissemination activities of the METASCHOOL project for the whole duration of its implementation. Overall, the dissemination activities look beyond simply publicizing the project, focusing on how it can: Make results more attractive to the target groups; Tailor results to the needs of specific target groups. All of these points listed above have the aim at mainstreaming the project products into organizations and structures at local, regional, national, European or international level. They also attempt to transfer lessons learnt and products into policy. The scope of the METASCHOOL dissemination activities that are described in this deliverable extends from involving potential users to reaching policy stakeholders and making the awareness on the project the widest possible.

1.2 Audience This report is addressed to the European Commission.

1.3 Structure Chapter 1: contains an overview of this document, providing its Scope, Audience, and Structure. Chapter 2: presents the Dissemination / Publicity activities and tools of all the METASCHOOL Consortium members. Annex: includes all the material used for the dissemination of the METASCHOOL project by all the Consortium members.

2 Dissemination Activities The overall aim of EU-funded initiatives is to reap the maximum yield from their activities. This involves preparing the ground for their work, carrying out their project while harvesting its results, distributing these results to the various end-users and stakeholders. In order to serve the public good, projects need to disseminate their results and outputs. In the following table, the number of overall dissemination activities performed during the METASCHOOL project are apposed.

Visitors may view the content of the website in English. The web site is periodically updated and will remain operational even after the completion of the project (hosted by EA). It has been promoted in all other dissemination/exploitation material. The project’s website is distinguished into the following sections: Project: presenting a brief outline of the METASCHOOL project, its participants and overall aims. Communities: showcasing the existing communities around the METASCHOOL project and indicating possible cooperation and synergies. Training: describing briefly the training process in the context of the METASCHOOL project. Repositories: presenting in brief the repositories that have already been implemented by previous projects and can be exploited in the context of METASCHOOL. Consortium: resenting all the consortium members around Europe by providing a brief description of their background and expertise.

2.6.2.2 METASCHOOL portal

The METASCHOOL portal (URL: http://lreforschools.eun.org/metaschool ) has been created as a part of the Learning Resource Exchange for schools, a place of free educational resources. The portal provides 21 modules that enable teachers, particularly those teaching science, to:

• Find digital learning resources on the web; • Get ideas on how to integrate them into lessons; • Adapt existing digital content to suit different curriculum requirements; • Learn about metadata and how it can help every teacher; • Discover how to share content using social networking tools; • Increase learning and teaching impact through ICT-based science activities.

2.6.2.3 METASCHOOL on LeMill The METASCHOOL modules have been created using LeMill as a platform. LeMill offers a versatile platform for learning resources: the modules have been created using not only static text, but also by embedding content from other platforms such as Slideshare and YouTube. Moreover, LeMill offers various ways to reuse the modules: they can be easily embedded in a different web-environment or teachers can download the whole module as a zip file, pdf or as a scorm-compatible file. This allows, for example, inserting the METASCHOOL module in a learning enviroment such as Moodle.

2.6.2.4 METASCHOOL on Slideshare

A major part of the METASCHOOL training modules have been created by using a PowerPointPresentation template. This allows a uniform look of the modules. These presenatations have been uploaded on Slideshare (Fig. 5), which is an online tool for sharing presentations, documents and professional videos. The presentations have then been embedded into the LeMill environment creating a coherent module with metadata description and further links to relevant sources.
