CURRENT AFFAIRS: NATIONAL NEWS

Registration Process for Vintage Motor Vehicles formalized

• Minister of Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari has said with an aim to preserve

and promote the heritage of vintage vehicles, the registration process of Vintage Motor Vehicles

has been formalized.

• New rules shall provide a hassle-free process along with salient features such as retention of old

number for already registered vehicles and a “VA” series (Unique Registration Mark) for fresh

registrations.

• The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has amended CMVR 1989, formalising the

registration process of vintage motor vehicles. This is aimed at preserving and promoting the

heritage of old vehicles in India.

Salient Features

• All 2/4 wheelers, 50+ years old, maintained in their original form and which have not undergone

any substantial overhaul, shall be defined as Vintage Motor Vehicles.

• Application for registration/re-registration shall be made as per Form 20 and shall be

accompanied by an insurance policy, fee, bill of Entry in case of imported vehicles, and old RC in

case of an already registered vehicle in India.

• The State Registering Authority shall issue a certificate of registration as per Form 23A, within 60

days.

• Vehicles already registered can retain their original Registration Mark. However, for fresh

registration, registration mark will be assigned as “XX VA YY*”, where VA stands for vintage, XX

stands for State Code, YY will be a two-letter series and “8” is a number from 0001 to 9999

allotted by the State Registering Authority.

• Fees for a new registration – Rs. 20,000 and subsequent re-registration – Rs. 5,000.

• Vintage motor vehicles shall not be driven on roads for regular/commercial purposes.

Indian Navy accepts first batch of two MH-60r Multi Role Helicopters (MRH)

• Indian Navy accepted the first two of its MH-60R Multi Role Helicopters (MRH) from US Navy in a

ceremony held at Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego

• MH-60R helicopters manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corporation, USA is an all-weather

helicopter designed to support multiple missions with state of the art avionics/ sensors. 24 of

these helicopters are being procured under Foreign Military Sales from the US Government. The

helicopters would also be modified with several India Unique Equipment and weapons.

PMAY-U launches a Short Film Contest – Khushiyon Ka Ashiyana

• Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), one of the world’s largest affordable housing

and Awas Par Samvaad – series of 75 seminars and workshops,to take ahead the Prime

Minister’s vision of ‘Housing for All’.

• The declaration of the two initiatives by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) were

made on the occasion of sixth anniversary of PMAY-U on June 25, 2021. The momentous

occasion also coincided with PMAY-U achieving a major feat. The Cumulative release of Central

Assistance under the Mission crossed Rs. 1 Lakh Cr. As the Mission moves ahead to achieve its

target of 1.12 Crore houses, more than 83 lakh houses are grounded and more than 50 lakh

completed.

• For the short film contest, applications are invited from PMAY-U beneficiaries, students, youth,

members of the civil society, institutions and individual/groups on the broad theme of six years

journey of PMAY-U Mission and how it has impacted lives of people, thereby bringing

transformation, dignity and enabling empowerment. The competition is open to all Indian

Nationals above the age of 18 years and the final date for submission is September 1. The

results will be declared onSeptember30, 2021 and 25 each winners will be rewarded in three

categories with cash prizes of Rs 25000, Rs 20000 and Rs 12500along with certificate.

• ‘Awas Par Samvaad’ aims to create awareness and promote discussion, deliberation and

dissemination on 'Housing for All'among multiple stakeholders belonging to varied streams of

learning and practices, e.g. engineering, urban community development, planning, finance, etc.

This will be done through 75 nation-wide workshops and seminars to be conducted between July

1 to September 30, 2021 by educational institutions and Primary Lending Institutions in

association with States/UTs. These workshops can be held offline through a classroom model,

adhering to all COVID-19 best practices or via online medium. MoHUA will issue certificate of

participation to all participants.

• Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of Civil Aviation along with Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan,

Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh and Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture &

Farmers Welfare today virtually flagged off 8 new routes bolstering the aerial connectivity from

Madhya Pradesh to Maharashtra & Gujarat

• The airlines M/S SpiceJet will commence operations on these 8 new routes: Gwalior-Mumbai-

Gwalior, Gwalior-Pune-Gwalior, Jabalpur-Surat-Jabalpur, and Ahmedabad-Gwalior-Ahmedabad

route.

• Inauguration of these routes achieves the aim of the Sab Uden Sab Juden initiative under the

UDAN scheme to strengthen the established aerial network of the country

• To date, 359 routes and 59 airports including 5 heliports and 2 Water Aerodromes have been

operationalized under the UDAN scheme.

Automated Train Toilet Sewerage Disposal System

• An automated technology for collection of toilet waste which is easy to maintain and seven times

cheaper alternative to the bio-toilets, developed by an Indian scientist, can be used to maintain

the toilet system of the Indian Railways.

• Existing Bio toilets use anaerobic bacteria for converting human waste to gas, but that bacteria

can’t decompose plastic and cloth materials dumped into toilets by passengers. Hence

maintenance and removing of such non decomposed materials inside the tank is difficult.

• The technology developed by Dr. R.V. Krishnaiah from Chebrolu Engineering Collegeisan

automated system for collection of toilet waste from running trains and segregation of different

materials and processing into usable things.

• The technology developed with support from the Advanced Manufacturing Technologies

programme of the Department of Science & Technology (DST), aligned with the ‘Make in India’

initiative has been granted five National patents and is in the testing phase.

NCW signs MoU with BPR&D for Nation-Wide Gender Sensitization Training Programme for Police

Personnel

• The National Commission for Women (NCW) has signed an MoU with Bureau of Police

Research and Development (BPR&D) for gender sensitization of police personnel across the

country. The programme was launched by NCW Chairperson Ms Rekha Sharma, Director

General, BPR&D Shri VSK Kaumudi, ADG Shri Neeraj Sinha and DIG Training Vandan Saxena

in the BPR&D Headquarters, Mahipalpur Delhi.

• The objective of the programme is to ensure gender sensitization of police personnel with respect

to legislation and policies concerning women and bringing attitudinal and behavioural changes in

police officers while dealing with crimes against women. The Commission has been regularly

organising gender sensitization programs for police officers to achieve the objective of building

trust of women complainants in police.

• National Commission for Women is the apex national level organization with the mandate of

protecting and promoting the interests of women under the aegis of Ministry of Women and Child

Development, Govt. of India.

1 in 3 countries are not taking action to help students catch up on their learning post-COVID-19 school

closures

• A new UNESCO, UNICEF, World Bank and OECD report documents education responses to

COVID-19 in 142 countries

• Around one in three countries where schools are or have been closed are not yet implementing

remedial programmes post-COVID-19 school closures, according to a UNESCO, UNICEF, World

Bank and OECD global "Survey on National Education Responses to COVID-19 School

Closures". At the same time, only one-third of countries are taking steps to measure learning

losses in primary and lower secondary levels – mostly among high-income countries.

• For the report, a total of 142 countries were surveyed between February to May 2021 among 4

schooling groups – pre-primary, primary, lower secondary and upper secondary.

• Delhi Transport Ministry in collaboration with Google launched a system to provide real-time

information about all public buses of Delhi to the commuters (passenger).

• The system would be executed by integrating Delhi’s public transit system onto the Google Maps

• The Delhi government also announced a fellowship programme named ‘Chief Minister’s Urban

Leaders Fellowship’ (CMULF) to recruit outstanding young professionals from across the country

under the age of 35, who are passionate about public service and willing to work with the Delhi

government for 2 years.

J&K launches Horticulture Week

• Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir , Manoj Sinha launched ‘Horticulture Week’ in-line

with the Prime Minister’s vision of doubling farmers income by 2022.

• The Union Territory (UT) is also targeting to plant 25 lakh high-density plants in 2021 compared

to 49,000 in 2019.

NABARD & NCDC selected IFFCO Kisan Sanchar

• The NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) and NCDC (National

Cooperative Development Corporation) have selected IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Ltd, an arm of

Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) for setting up 17 Farmer Producer

Organizations (FPOs) in Gujarat covering its 6 districts to cater various kinds of crops.

• A total of 5,000 farmers will be associated with these FPOs by the end of 2021 and more than

50,000 farmers by 2025.

• IFFCO Kisan will establish 5 FPOs in association with NABARD in four districts of Gujarat viz.

Anand, Patan, Surendranagar and Valsad.

• The other 12 FPOs will be set up by IFFCO Kisan in association with NCDC in Junagarh and

Sabarkantha districts with both the districts having 6 FPOs each.

IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited:

• It is a collaboration of Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) with Bharti Airtel

and Star Global Resources Ltd. It operates in four major verticals – smart agriculture solution
