The divisional level func- tion was held at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar where Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon was the chief guest, who unfurled the National Flag and took salute at march past presented by the contingents of Police, BSF, CRPF, ITBT, SSB, JKAP, IRP, Women police, Executive Police, SDRF, Fire & Emergency, Forest Protection Force, besides NCC cadets and students. Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, Inspector General of Police, SJM Gillani, IGP IRP, Sunil Kumar, senior officers of civil administration, Police and Paramilitary Forces besides large gathering of people attended the function. In his Republic Day speech, Dr Samoon said that Republic Day is the most significant day in the history of the country as this is the day when people of the country gave constitution to themselves. He said that administration is putting all efforts for ensuring effective public delivery system across the Valley and no stone will be left unturned in this regard. He said administration is giving focused attention towards education, health and other developmental sectors so that visible improvement is reg- istered on ground and public is benefited at large. The Divisional Commissioner also emphasized on collective efforts to eradicate social evils, preservation and protection of heritage and environment. He also prayed for the peace, progress and prosperity on the occasion. Various colourful and mes- merizing cultural programmes were presented by the students of different educational institu- tions besides artists of Information, Education, Youth Services & Sports and Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. Former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Member Parliament, Mehbooba Mufti and former Ministers including Nayeem Akhtar, Dr Haseeb Drabu, Asiea Naqash and oth- ers also attended the function at Bakshi Stadium. BUDGAM: The Republic Day was also celebrated with enthusiasm and gaiety at Sports Stadium Budgam here today. Scintillating cultural programmes were presented by school children and Department of Information. At Pahalgam, the tricolour was unfurled by Sub Divisional Magistrate, who took salute and inspected the march past on the occasion. On the occasion of 67th Republic Day, Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta unfurled the National flag at Shahidi Smarak of 1965 war memorial, New Dashmesh Nagar, Digiana in Jammu today. While speaking on the occa- sion, the Speaker recalled the sacrifices of the soldiers and great leaders who fought for achieving freedom. He called for safeguarding sovereignty and integrity of the nation and urged upon the people to maintain peace, harmony and brother- hood. In connection with the 67th Republic Day, BJP organized a function at party headquarters, Kachi Chawani where National flag was hoisted by the State president of the party. Sweets were also distributed amid exchange of greetings by the BJP leaders and activists. Protesters block NH Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Jan 27: Dozens of protesters today blocked Srinagar-Jammu National Highway near Chursoo area of Awantipora in south Kashmir and demanded construction of a foot bridge. The locals of the Chursoo today morning blocked the National Highway and staged a protest. They said there is rise in the road accidents along the Highway since its four laning. "We urge the executing agency to either construct an overground foot bridge or underground foot bridge for the pedestrians' safety," said the pro- testers. Later, the Station House Officer (SHO) Awantipora rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters. He also convened a meeting of local elders and RAMKY Construction Company over the issue. Following the police assurance, the locals dispersed peacefully and the traffic was restored. The locals have threatened administration of massive protests and road block if their demand was not met within 10 days. 2nd swine flu case in Jammu; 6 months old tests positive Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Jan 27: A 50-year-old man has become the second victim of swine flu in Jammu after he was tested positive for H1N1 virus. According to the reliable sources in Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, a 50-year-old man from Jammu identified as Bharat Bhushan, a property dealer by profession, was admitted in isolation ward of Chopra Nursing Home of the hospi- tal some days back with swine flu symptoms. The sources said that on January 25, his swab sample was send to Government Medical College, Kangra for testing and today when his report was received, it turned out to be positive for H1N1 virus. This is the second case of swine flu in Jammu this season, as 1st swine flu case was detected on Jan 14, when a six-month-old female baby was found to be affected with the disease in SMGS Hospital, Jammu.

Protesters block NHExcelsior Correspondent

SRINAGAR, Jan 27: Dozens of protesters today blockedSrinagar-Jammu National Highway near Chursoo area ofAwantipora in south Kashmir and demanded construction of a footbridge.

The locals of the Chursoo today morning blocked the NationalHighway and staged a protest. They said there is rise in the roadaccidents along the Highway since its four laning. "We urge theexecuting agency to either construct an overground foot bridge orunderground foot bridge for the pedestrians' safety," said the pro-testers.

Later, the Station House Officer (SHO) Awantipora rushed tothe spot and pacified the protesters. He also convened a meeting oflocal elders and RAMKY Construction Company over the issue.Following the police assurance, the locals dispersed peacefully andthe traffic was restored.

The locals have threatened administration of massive protestsand road block if their demand was not met within 10 days.

2nd swine flu case in Jammu; 6 months old tests positive

JAMMU, Jan 27: A 50-year-old man has become the secondvictim of swine flu in Jammu after he was tested positive for H1N1virus.

According to the reliable sources in Government MedicalCollege and Hospital, Jammu, a 50-year-old man from Jammuidentified as Bharat Bhushan, a property dealer by profession, wasadmitted in isolation ward of Chopra Nursing Home of the hospi-tal some days back with swine flu symptoms.

The sources said that on January 25, his swab sample was sendto Government Medical College, Kangra for testing and todaywhen his report was received, it turned out to be positive for H1N1virus.

This is the second case of swine flu in Jammu this season, as1st swine flu case was detected on Jan 14, when a six-month-oldfemale baby was found to be affected with the disease in SMGSHospital, Jammu.
