VAIN Calum Best has had an £8,000 hair transplant after feeling down about losing his locks.

The 31-year-old former model splashed the cash to get his hairline boosted after his scalp was damaged from years of using blonde dye.

The son of Belfast football legend George Best began losing his locks at the age of 23.

Calum said: “I am so pleased I had it done. I was fed-up of losing my hair and wanted to look good.

“You drop your head to look at your phone and you are thinking all the time, ‘Are they looking at my bald spot?’

“You only have to see how much better people like Wayne Rooney, James Nesbitt and Gordon Ramsay look after having similar operations.”

And he hopes his operation by a top Harley Street surgeon will help him find a new girlfriend.

“There is no one special in my life – hope-fully having a full head of hair will help me to find her.”

being taken to the cleaners on English soil and made sure the opposition knew it.

Finn reckons the experience of losing in India before, together with the knowledge they can outplay their hosts, will come together to p r o d u c e s o m e t h i n g special.

He added: “The way they targeted us in that one-day series was a revenge series. Every billboard you saw around India was, ‘Revenge, we are coming to get you’.

“People are writing us off already but write us off at your peril. We have been written off

before and came back and proved them wrong.

“ E n g l a n d haven’t won there for 27 years, so as a young team with a new young captain it will be exciting to go there and try to break records and prove people wrong.

“We have the pain from the one-day series we lost there last year and we have the good

experience of beating them in 2011.

“I think a culmination of the two should spur us on to win this series.”

Finn remains England’s third seamer and is keen to hold off the challenge of Tim Bresnan and Graham Onions.

“I’m striving to get myself to the point where I won’t be dropped, but I’m not there yet,” admitted Finn.Investec, the specialist bank and asset manager, is the title sponsor of test Match cricket in england. visit the Investec cricket Zone at investec.co.uk/cricket

ENGLAND’S players believe they have to show doubting fans they can play decent cricket in India.

It has been almost 30 years since they last won a Test series there and in that time have just one solitary Test victory against India, in 2006, to their name.

The statistics make grim reading if you are an Englishman, even if India struggle just as badly when they visit these shores.

The warm afterglow of England’s 4-0 Test demolition in their Indian summer of 2011 will be replaced by a chilly winter if they get a taste of their own stuffing.

“We’ve a massive p o i n t t o p r o v e , ” admitted paceman Steve Finn. “We have to prove to the general public, to the people who comment on the game and to people within the game.

“If we want to be the No.1 side in the world again and get that mantle back we have to be able to perform in sub- continent conditions.

“We’ve done a lot of work since we played Pakistan in Dubai last year, as a unit and as a team, developing skills we will need in the subcontinent – playing against spin, using old balls on wickets that aren’t doing much.

“We have done a lot of work to refine our game to become better in the subcont inent and hopefully that will bear fruit on this tour.”

India dished out a 5-0 one-day whitewash in their own backyard following their Test drubbing last year.

You don’t get many chances to represent your country, so I am gutted to miss tomorrow’s international against Wales.

And with Zak Hardaker taking my place at full-back, I am also more than a little worried.

Not that I have any concerns about Zak. Just the opposite.

I know he is going to kill it at Wrexham because he is an outstanding talent. Indeed, I rate Zak so highly that I know I am not guaranteed my place when I am fully fit.

And, hopefully, that may be for the game against France at Craven Park next weekend.

If you look at Zak’s form, he’s been fantastic. He got chucked in at full-back at Leeds due to Brent Webb’s injury, but made a name for himself and the position his own.

So there are no worries from me about how well he will perform on Saturday.

He has genuine pace and the lad is also gutsy and tough, so has all the attributes you need to be a full-back.

His emergence will certainly keep me on my toes. But competition for places is g r e a t a n d w h a t w e need, going into a World C u p y e a r . And it’s some-thing we have through the squad. Happily, I am back in full training and I should be oK next week.

I certainly didn’t think the injury was going to be as serious as it has turned out. Initially, I reckoned it was just a dead leg, but scans showed differently.

Going out to our training camp in South Africa helped the recovery and the knee has progressed even more since coming back.

I love playing for England and it is bad missing an opportunity. But if I am not right, there is nothing I can do but wait.

Thankfully, it’s happened now and not in 12 months’ time at the World Cup, which starts a year from today and it will be the biggest uK sporting tournament in 2013.

And if we are ever going to win a World Cup – which I think we can – this will be the year to do it.Sam TomkinS, Heinz Big Soup ambassador, has recently launched his limited edition soup Beef, Tomkins & onion to support Joining Jack. www.joiningjack.org RLWC2013 tickets can now be purchased.
