Excelsior Correspondent GANDERBAL, Sept 20: Blaming the opposition National Conference for the political uncertainty in the State, senior PDP leader Sartaj Madni today said the historical blunders and compromises for the sake of power by the leadership of the party has led the people through misery, pain and torment. Addressing a convention of party workers here today, he accused the opposition parties of playing with the sentiments of people by raking up controver- sies which are the direct fall out of the mishandling of the politi- cal situations by these parties in the past. He said the unceremonious burial of the public sentiment in the State by the Kashmir accord of 1975 and muzzling of voices of dissent during the elections of 1987 led to a sense of restless- ness among people which result- ed into the eruption of militancy in 90s and people are yet to for- get the scars of the same. He said late Mufti Sayeed developed an alternative narra- tive in the State and provide balm to the wounds of people with the launch of PDP and sub- sequently the Government led by him in 2002 succeeded to a large extent in that. He said it was for the first time that the discourse in the State got changed to an extent that some of the monumental confidence building measures were taken to assuage the feeling of the peo- ple. Criticising the Congress Party for their stand, Madni said the Party has itself been an accused in inflicting injuries on the people of the State. He won- dered what were these leaders looking upto during their recent visit to Srinagar when they themselves threw the report of interlocutors into the dustbin of history. Party general secretary, Qazi Muhammad Afzal, District pres- ident, Farooq Ganderbali, senio leader Bashir Ahmad Mir, zonal presidents Bilal Ahmad and Shakeel Ahmad and a large number of workers were present on the occasion. Excelsior Correspondent NEW DELHI, Sept 20: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated here today India's first-ever "Pension Adalat", exclusively devoted to resolve the issues and griev- ances related to pensioners. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the Department of Pensions was never very high in priority in the functioning of earlier govern- ments. But soon after the present government came in, it was the personal intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his deep concern for every section of society that one of the first major decisions taken by the government was to fix the mini- mum pension at Rs.1000/-. This came as a dream-come-true for several elderly pensioners, some of whom were drawing a pen- sion of family pension as mea- ger as Rs.30/- or 40/- only, he said. The requirement of provid- ing a life or living certificate by a pensioner, said Dr Jitendra Singh, was also made easy through the use of biometric option of providing this proof. In addition, several new pro- grammes like "Bhavishya" and "Sankalp" have been introduced during the last three years to help the pensioners to plan out their future course of life post- superannuation, he added. The launch of the Pension Adalat today, according to Dr Jitendra Singh, would reduce the delays in settlement of the legitimate dues and grievances of the pen- sioners. This, he said, will go a long way in instilling among the elder pensioners, a sense of being cared for and would also dispel the feeling of isolation or neglect. In addition, he said, the nature of problems and difficul- ties faced by the pensioners would get identified through the process and will also serve as our resource and research input for improving the future func- tioning. Each Pension Adalat, Dr Jitendra Singh said, will have a combination of officers from the concerned departments, banking authorities and various other related agencies in order to enable on-the-spot decisions on various issues which, he said, normally range from non-pay- ment of family pension, revision of pension, payment of pension arrears after death of pensioner, non-payment of fixed medical allowance, etc. With all the con- cerned representatives available, this could avoid undue delay and harassment for the elder citi- zens, he said. On the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh also distributed "Anubhav" awards on the basis of the best account of experience written by the superannuating officials. This new practice was also started by the Modi Government two years ago. Secretary to President Sanjay Kothari was the guest of honour on the occasion. Union Secretary ARPG C. PDP opposes deportation of Rohingyas Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Sept 20: Major differences today surfaced between coalition partners People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) over Rohingyas Muslims’ pres- ence in the country after former distanced itself from deportation demand made by one of its legis- lators Vikramaditya Singh and instead sympathized with the Myanmar migrants, saying it is a human issue and should be treated humanely. While opposing the demand of deportation of Rohingyas, sen- ior PDP leader and Education Minister Syed Altaf Bukhari said that the statement of Vikramaditya Singh could be his personal views and doesn’t reflect party’s stand. The PDP legislator from Jammu had yesterday demanded that the Rohingyas liv- ing in Jammu should be deported immediately “as they have links with militant outfits and pose threat to internal security of the State and country”. "As far as the statement from our MLC (Vikramaditya Singh) which has come from Jammu is concerned — I have read that — it could be his personal view and doesn’t fall in line with party stand,” Bukhari told reporters here when asked about PDP’s stand after Singh’s statement. He asserted that the issue of Rohingyas Muslims is a human issue and Kashmiri people stand with them. “I don’t think anyone other than Kashmiris know how to stand for those who have been thrown out from their homes.
