  2. 2. Biography: Born August 12, 1932 in Provo Utah he is now 80 years old He was raised inProvo by his motherafter his father Diedof Tuberculosiswhen he was only 7 He Began workingat an early age(around 11) to helpsupport his family
  3. 3. Education and CareerHe earned a bachelors Degree in Accounting from BYUHe then earned a Law degree from University ofChicagoHe was both a lawyer and judge, professor at University of Chicago, President of BYU, and on the Utah Supreme Court
  4. 4. Marriage and FamilyHe married June Dixon in the Salt Lake temple on June 24, 1952They had 6 childrenJune died of cancer in 1998Elder Oaks then married Kristen Meredith McMain inthe Salt Lake Temple on August 25, 2000.
  5. 5. Church CallingsHe has served in several stake presidencies, as anArea president in the Philippines, and Chicago stakeMission PresidentHe was unable to serve a mission due to serving in theUtah National Guard during the Korean war.He was called as an Apostle in April of 1984 at the ageof 51

Lessons LearnedElder Oaks is inspiring he hasremained strong and faithful throughpersonal tragedy.I did not know why I received a noanswer to my prayers for therecovery of my wife of many years,but the Lord gave me a witness thatthis was His will, and He gave me thestrength to accept it, he said.Elder Oaks married Kristen MeredithMcMain on August 25, 2000 in theSalt Lake Temple.
  7. 7. Lessons LearnedElder Oaks was a very successful lawyer andjudge.He had some specific study habits thathelped make him successful. Wake up early Pray Study the scriptures Study school work

Learning from Elder Oaks Gods love is so perfect that HeThe love of God does not lovingly requires us to obey Hissupersede His laws and His commandments because Hecommandments, and the effect knows that only throughof Gods laws and obedience to His laws can wecommandments does not become perfect, as He is. For thisdiminish the purpose and reason, Gods anger and Hiseffect of His love. wrath are not a contradiction of His love but an evidence of His love.
  9. 9. Learning from Elder OaksDesires dictate ourpriorities, priorities shape ourchoices, and choices determine ouractions. The desires we act ondetermine our changing, ourachieving, and our becoming.We should remember that righteous desires cannot besuperficial, impulsive, or temporary. They must beheartfelt, unwavering, and permanent.

Hobbies and interestsCamping and fishingHe is always reading.His family says that hewill read 3 or 4 newspapers a day.He tackles technical things in the morning whenhe is fresher, and saves lighter things for later.But reading matter is always close at hand.His wife says, If he thinks he is going to bewaiting at a stoplight, he will often pick upsomething to read.
