Secretary's ReportHi Everyone,

Well this year is fast advancing and already our annual Championship Show has descended upon us.

What a fantastic time the Queenslander’s had at the National Specialty last month. Thanks to NSW for putting on agreat weekend. It’s even better when we get to take home some trophies...good on you Queensland! A certain Op-posite Sex Open in Show handling winner even had his fingernails and toenails painted for the occasion, by ourclubs Trophy Steward, after copious amounts of a certain liquid were consumed. Oh and the favour was returned Imight add. It might make a good ‘You Tube’ hit after some slight editing! We look forward to Victoria 2012.

Our Open Show judge for September has been appointed and we are having Mrs Pamela Brown. I urge all Dallypeople to support her and enter this show. We have to support our up and coming Championship Show judges, plusit is a relaxed and fun few hours to mingle and catch up.

Until next time I hope life and spots are treating you well.

Regards,

ToniNext DAQ General Meeting - Tue 22 June at 7 pm

Allyson and Mary ForrestOUR DALMATIAN NATIONAL ADVENTURE

Day One - Wednesday

Finally the day had come to venture to the Dally Nationals in NSW; not our 1St National trip as competitors, but our 1st trip flying solo. Noone to follow this time Agh!!! So with the overnight stop entered into the tom-tom GPS, trailer packed full of gear and all 4 dogs (Rambo,Jade, Stoli, Onyx) loaded into the back of the Xtrail we set off South. Look out NSW here we come!!

Being in no rush we left on Wednesday 14th April with our planned overnight stay with friends at South West Rocks “Trevor & MarieDonaldson” who are the slaves of the 1st Lykatyga Aust Champion - Ch Lykatyga Wyld Midnite. Day one of travelling went well one pit stopon the way at Grafton and after 6 ½ hours dogs and people travelled well.

Day Two - Thursday

Thursday up and off to our Accommodation at Penrith Nepean Shores Cabins, another 6 or so hours travelling including pit stops we arriveat our cabin. Time to check into the cabins after a big day on the road. The cabin, although not modern was clean and spacious, downsideis the limited trailer parking!! Lucky our trailer is small and light we managed to squeeze it in beside the cabin. With the trailer sortednow time to unpack the trailer so the dogs have somewhere to sleep and find dinner. This is an easy task as the cabins are located veryclose to many takeaway shops and restaurants. Quiet night spent watching some telly, good night sleep for all. Tomorrow the trip to Er-skine Park to check travel time and maybe set up?

Day Three - Friday

Our rest day, off to Erskine Park, great 15 min drive very easy to find once the cor-rect suburb is entered into the tom-tom (it is St Clair) with lots of space to let thedogs have a big run after their trip down. Time to go and look at the ring setup andtry and find a place to set up for the start of the National tomorrow. We find somevery friendly and helpful Dalmatian Club of NSW members who recommend an idealspot for us. Now a quick trip back to Penrith to collect our gazebo so we can set up.Shelter now in place for day one of the National the performance events tomorrowwith vetting at 8.30am.

Back at the cabins, dogs’ now are resting in the trailer so it is off to the supermar-ket to collect some supplies. Friday afternoon sees the arrival of more Dalmatians toNepean Shores, some of them our fellow Queenslanders Toni and Darryl Bale andWendy Johns. Now the party can begin. After tending to our babies we catch up fora couple of drinks and a bit of fun “this may even involve a builder and some nail pol-ish?? ” say no more. With the Agility/Jumping competition on tomorrow and vettingat 8.30am it’s off to bed. More Dalmatians arrive into the late in the night, roll onthe Nationals.

Day Four - Saturday

With the agility ring calling we pack up the car and trailer and head off to ErskinePark. Thankfully!! we have our shelter in place so not too much to do to set up camp.Aust Ch Pokadot New Sensation ADX JDX “Rambo” is vetted at 8.30am, now we waitfor the obedience to finish before the agility can start, so time to take advantage of some much needed quiet time. With the Open Showalso on today it is a waiting game to see what happens first, it is looking like we may clash.

Masters agility is the first class in and roughly begins around 12.30pm and as Rambo is the only competitor in this class we are the firstagility competitors for the Nationals Day. He did me proud and with 1 course fault and a few time faults, but as he still had a course timewithout an NQ (non qualify) he was placed 1st. Our next class was Masters Jumpers and it was looking like we would clash with the openconfirmation ring. I only had one dog entered in the Open Show but he was in Junior class so we were watching the clock.

As Terry and I both had dogs still to run in the jumpers and also entries in the Open Show, we helped change course heights and setup totry and get finished before we were needed in the open ring. So with all hands on deck Rambo managed to finish our jumpers run with 1course fault and 3 time faults to end up with a 2nd place behind Terry and Sandra Irving’s “Roxy” Ch Talimba Too Darn Hot. Off to thechange rooms to get out of the agility getup and into some show clothes. Unfortunately for us, not as successful in the Open Show ring.

All finished for the first day of competition now for some dinner and catch up with fellow exhibitors then back to the cabins for R&R.

Now the fun begins, after a good start to the trip now the night before the big day we have a girl Ch Throdice In Fashion “Miss Jade”that won’t settle. So we are up most of the night tending to her needs. And at around 2am while walking her for the who knows how manytimes? Out of the darkness comes a Dalmatian on the loose, it is one of ours Ch Lykatyga Wyld Streak “Stoli” AHHH thankfully she wasjust looking for me so disaster avoided. I am now heading back to bed with Stoli in toe to try and get a little sleep before tomorrow.Jade has now been left in mums hands.

THE DALLY DIGEST

Day Five - Sunday

Woke up not as rested as I would have liked but as today is the big day we again pack up the car and trailer and head back to ErskinePark. After much attention by mum Jade is now feeling better, probably better then both of us as she can now sleep before and aftershe is required.

Our first dog in the ring is the party all night girl “Miss Jade” who is entered in the Neuter Sweepstakes. She did us proud with a 1st

place from a strong neuter entry of 9. Maybe she felt a little fat and needed a night to tend to her figure??

Next in the ring was our junior dog Lykatyga Dark Crystal “Onyx” he held his own with a 4th place from a class of 11 juniors. Our next dogwas Rambo in the veteran class and he continues in his winning form with another 1st place from 7 competitors.

So we were having not a bad day with still 1 dog left to show, that was our Aust Bred bitch Ch Lykatyga Wyld Streak “Stoli” and out of allour dogs she was in the largest class of 18 bitches entered, this was not however the largest class in the show. As the class was so big itwas split into 2 groups, we were in the 1 st group and were judged and then sent out of the ring while the next group had their turn. Thenall dogs were to return into the ring for the short list, thankfully we made the cut and managed to place 3rd.

We were over the moon with our success at the national, but now it’s time to pack up. “The fun part” All packed up now back to the cabinsfor a small celebration of our day. Back at the camp we realise that between our small group Toni & Darryl Bale 1st place open dog and oppsex open in show Ch Dallaspots Kid Kermit “Buddy” handled by Darryl aka “the builder”, Wendy Johns 1st place junior bitch opp sex juniorin show Brewen Candy Kar. And our dogs taking home 2x 1st, and 3rd and 4th in conformation and a 1st and 2nd in the performance agility/jumping rings.

Go Queenslanders!! I am sure our fellow Qld representatives also held their own and did us proud.

Day Six - Monday

Time to leave Penrith and head back to South West Rocks for alittle break before heading back to the real world. We arrive atSouth West Rocks for some R&R. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner offresh oysters and prawns, with no plans for tomorrow it’s time toreally let our hair down so we had a good night of catch up andcelebrations.

Day Seven - Tuesday

Nothing really to report, we had a lazy day catching up on somemuch needed rest.

Day Eight - Wednesday

Well it has been a week since we left home and we have had agreat time. With the beach just down the road today’s plan was awalk on the beach with maybe a swim in the ocean. So the citydogs headed to the coast for a run on the sand and an ocean swim. This is where the next heart attack happens…. It all starts off

well enough all dogs on retractable leads having a great time on the beach. Myself and Marie then take the dogs swimming 2 at a time itwas an event, Jade took to the water like a duck she loved it, Onyx loved the waves and the swim after he learnt how. Rambo was not tookeen but did have a bit of a paddle, Stoli came in because I was in there, she was not a happy swimmer…. To say the least. (she ended upwith a sprung tail as a souvenir)

However, this is not the heart attack moment. As we were getting ready to put the dogs away so we could have a little swim (water wasgreat). The dogs all on leads we see a couple walk onto the beach with their dog, a rather large male Labrador. This was all good until Isee a spotted dog running up the beach toward this new comer. The spotted dog in question is the youngster Onyx (who was until thisminute on a lead), and although has a fantastic temperament is not the most obedience trained dog!! AH

Thankfully Onyx was sooo distracted with the lab he didn’t really know he was free. Phew, another disaster adverted. Just goes to showsand and lead clips really aren’t a good combination. Damn sand…

Last night of our trip and it is a sad point that tomorrow we are to leave and it means an end to our adventure until the next one at least.

Day Nine - Thursday

We say our goodbyes and head back to Bris Vegas and to reality, the rest of the trip thankfully went well and we all made it back safeand sound. I can’t wait for the next National but until then I will just have to get my fix with some more local shows.

That is our National Story travelling with Lykatyga Dalmatians.

Editor’s SpotUghhh. Sorry all, work has been hectic and the end resultis the Dally Digest coming out WAY later than I had hoped.

I hope you all enjoy the feature on the National in this edi-tion especially Allyson’s wonderful tale from the show. Ihad a great time catching up with friends from interstate Ihadn’t seen for years and looking at all the new Dals in thering. Congratulations also to all the Queensland Winners. We may not have taken the Best in Show, but there were alot of Queenslanders winning their classes and gettingplaced.

The weather is getting colder so don’t forget to rug up youroldies and I’m sure your younger Dals would enjoy beingspoilt in the house as well. My vet tells me ticks are still ac-tive though so do be careful and keep up the tick protectionif you live in a risky area.

Till next month
