CALAMANSI AS FOOT ODOR REMOVER

Chapter 1:

IntroductionBackground of the study

Nowadays, foot odor cases are increasing due to unexpected rain and heat.

Commonly in males. Foot odor is cause by bacteria. As a result, it produces a foul

smell. When feet becomes moist, it provides as a breeding ground for bacteria and

fungi. Thus, leads to the accumulation of bacteria and is usually a long=term ailment.

If not treated well, it will not be removed.

Foot odor can be removed in many ways. Doing starch spa and liniment and

applying commercial foot odor remover. As of calamansi, a fruit-bearing plant, which

is commnly grow on tropical countries like Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and etc.

Calamansi has various uses. As a juice, condiment and as a goods. Calamansi has a

high pH level. Ranging from 3 – 2.2. This leads to the researcher’s study to be

conducted as a foot odor remover. Acid can kill bacteria, thus, calamansi is possible

to become one.

Statement of the problem

1. Is calamansi has a potential to be a foot odor remover?

2. Does it a low-cost product?

3. Does is have a significant difference between the commercial one?

Hypothesis

1. Calamansi is effective as a foot odor remover.

2. doesn’t need any processing procedure.

Significance of the Study

The significance of the study is that, Calamansi provides a low-cost budget.

For and instance, the user wants to remover the foul smell on their feet but doesn’t

enough funds to buy it, He/she tends to buy a single calamansi because it is cheap.

It’s user-friendly. The user just rub the calamansi after bathing.

Scope and Limitations

The scope of the study is the product of the calamansi. Calamansi when

applied on the feet gives the user an itchy reaction or irritability. It needs to be

processed and studied more to cover up the lacks.

The study is limited only to the effect of calamansi, not as a commercial foot

odor for personal gain but as an alternative for the indigenous persons experiencing

such ailment.

Review on related literature

According to Dr. foot, (drfoot.com/what_causes_foot_odor,html), foot odor is

caused by bacteria, (refer to the background of the study). The Ph level of calamansi

(http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080124061157AAbTLTB) is

ranging from 3 – 2.2. Calamansi has a high pH level , thus it makes it possible to be

able to remove the bacteria that causes the feet to be smelly.

Research methodology

This section discusses the research methodology employed by the study. The

discussion includes the following: research design, selection and sampling of

respondents, research instruments, data gathering procedurem statistical treatment

of data and scoring procedure.

Research Design

The Study made use of the experimental research design. It allowed the study

to apply calamansi extract to 10 respondents with fungi-causing bad odor on their

feet. The study, however had no control group for it simply applied the extract to

fungi-inflicted feet without extract. At any rate, the results of the study would be just

a partial finding that could be validated in future studies.

Selection and sampling of respondents

The study made use of purposive-deliberate sampling design. It allowed the

researcher to conduct the experiment with the respondents’ inflicted with fungi on

their feet and determine the effect of calamansi extract using only 10 respondents,

Page 4: Dalton. xD

Should there have been more respondents, the findings of the study, could have

been more conclusive, extensive and generalizable.

Research Intrument

The instrument used by the study was based on the guide questions to

determine if and when calamansi extract can in fact reduce the fungi-causing odor of

the respondents. The guide questions were the basis of observing the effect of the

extract and its application to the inflicted-fungi of the respondents.

Data Gathering Procedure

The data gathering procedure was based on the responses of the respondents

and actual inspection of the feet of the respondents based on the following: (a) moist

of the feet, (b) smell/odor of the feet (c) comfort of the respondents. Prior consent of

the respondents was solicited and the data gathering procedure proceeded without

delay. The respondents were given instruction to follow the schedule as follows: (1)

evening extract application and morning the following day application, (2) after a

week’s observation, data were gathered.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The researcher no longer had to resort to statistical treatment of data for

most of his variables were qualitative, that is, based on the personal observation of

the researcher and his respondents. This includes the exemption of the scoring

procedure.

Summary of findings, conclusion and recommendation

Page 5: Dalton. xD

This section presents the findings of the study immediately followed by the

conclusions drown by the study, The possible application and implication of the

findings for commercial and household use for the basis of the recommendation of

the study.

Summary of Findings

The study obtained the following findings:

1. in a week’s time , the fungi-bad smelling odor was reduced form the 7 out of

10 respondents.

2. The respondents felt hassle applying calamansi every evening and check in

the morning for the improvement.

3. the three respondents whom their feet-inflicted-fungi without improvement

may have been due to other factors such as: not following the experiment

procedures, fortuitous events and others

Conclusion of the Study

Based on the findings, the study concluded the following:

Calamansi extract has a potential cure of the fungi-causing odor of the feet of

the respondents.

Recommendation

Page 6: Dalton. xD

Based on the findings and conclusion the following were recommended by the

study:

1. farther future research should be conducted on the potential curative ability of

calamansi extract on fungi-causing odor.

2. Pharmacological study on the effectiveness of calamansi extract should be

compared to commercial prescribed medicine to determine the extraction of

calamansi for commercial purpose.

3. The product should be enhance to a more comfortable convenient product.
