CLASS NEWS – YEAR 4

Year 4 continue to work well in all areas. Our weekly spelling results continue to get better and better and many students

are making a concerted effort to learn the multiplication tables. This week as part of our Science unit we did some stress tests on various materials to see how much weight they could hold before breaking. We were flabbergasted to learn that a piece of A4 paper could withstand weights totalling 13kg! Toilet paper didn’t fare anywhere near as well. Art is another pleasing area with many students now starting to review their own work. Keep up the good work Year 4.

MUSWELLBROOK HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMING ARTS PRESENTATION The Muswellbrook High School Performing Arts Group will be visiting Denman Public School on Thursday June 29th. Performances

will be from 1.00pm till 2.30pm. We welcome all families and community members to join us for this fantastic opportunity showcasing this amazing talent. The P&C will be holding a BBQ before the performance from 12.00pm. Sausage sandwiches and drinks will be available to purchase. This is a great opportunity to enjoy a delicious lunch with your children before the show.

CHESS TOURNAMENT

Chess has been offered to students at DPS for many years as an extracurricular activity and all students in Years 3 - 6 are invited to participate. The Denman Public School Chess team participated in an Interschool Chess Challenge this week. Students travelled to East Gosford on Tuesday 6th June. The students implemented great strategies during the tournament and were awarded 3rd place overall. Students will be competing in another competition next week at Tamworth. Congratulations to the team on a wonderful achievement. Students will now advance to the quarter finals in Term 3. Thank you to Mr Alan Sommerville who travelled to the tournament with the team. Mr Sommerville volunteers his time to coach students each week and his support and knowledge is greatly appreciated.

P&C NEWS

Please remember to mention our school if you open a new account at the

Denman Branch of the Regional Australia Bank. When any new account is opened, the customer is able to elect a community organisation to support, and the organisation then receives a lump sum, which equates to 1% of the average balance of all accounts combined. Customers with existing accounts are able to change their account type to be part of this incentive as well. With just a little comment to the friendly ladies at the bank, the school could benefit financially. Thank you to the Regional Australia Bank for offering this incentive to help out community organisations. Just a reminder that we sell reusable lunch bags. These are great to keep lunches cool or warm, and also cut down on the rubbish at school. They are available for purchase from the uniform shop and the office for $10. As previously mentioned we are holding a BBQ before the MHS Performing Arts Group performance on Thursday June 29th. Any help

to cook the BBQ and assist on the day would be greatly appreciated.

CHANGE OF DATE DPS advises that the School Council meeting scheduled for Monday 19th June has been postponed. We will advise of the new date ASAP. The P & C meeting will now be held on this day at 5.30pm in the school staff room.
