A group exhibition that gathers some of the forty artists represented

by the Incubator of Artists. The proposal of this exhibition is a

reflection about the authenticity of the work of art, starting from

    their title.

The answer to this reflection, to some extent and from the point of

view of the Art History, is quite simple. On the other hand, speaking

about Contemporary Art, the subject presents itself slightly more

    complex.

Any theoretical referential used to question the intentionality of a

contemporary work is not able to reveal their aesthetical

characteristics, but only a way of it being according to the

    assumptions of the artist.

What makes an artist choose a title that, a priori, could be

determined by the characteristics presented by the work in a

    descriptive or symbolic way?

In Contemporary Art, factors are not linear. The artist is a hostage of

the meaning that inhabits his or her soul. The result of his or her

creative process (work of art), sometimes, for the viewer, has no

    connection with the produced piece.

Why do artists name some pieces while others are left untitled?

In this exhibition, none of the selected pieces received a title,

proposing that the artists, the curator and the public select a single

word to each piece, thus becoming co-authors of not only one, but

many pieces. Authorship and co-authorship eventually merge in a

way that one can no longer speak of a work of art, but several "works

of art" that carry, individually and as a whole, many different

    interpretations.

  • LUIS SILVEIRINHA

1968, Campo Maior | Living and working in Lisbon

    Untitled, 2013Gouache on paper18 x 12,5 cm

Having taken the Painting course at Ar. Co Lisbon, his work is essentially

    anchored on drawings.

Through them, Luís seeks to perform exercises in which the forms that get

to us have a false meaning, working their ambivalences and giving us an

    opening to their life.

He often summons recognizable shapes that equally often detaches or

even recharges their bodies, giving them presence and creasing their soul.

    Once Upon a Time, There Was a Girl , 2012 Collage / Mixed Technique21 x 29,7 cm € 220,00

Master in Artistic Illustration by the Institute of Higher Education and

Sciences in Lisbon, Mariana´s collages reflect strong sexist, social and

political iconographic signs, dating as far back as the World War II era.

A anachronistic, irrational and spontaneous way of thinking is introduced

in her representations, revealing dadaist and surreal influences. In her

collages, humorous by nature, Mariana implies political satire as they

acquire structures as the compositions are developed using poster art and

    graphic design.
