Unit of Instruction Assignment

This assignment will enable you to practice fundamental skills in planning, teaching, and reflection when you teach Physical Education content in public school settings. It is advised to follow the instructions below.

Task analysis-List the skills that your students will have to have in order to be successful in your unit (This will assist you with designing your block plan next).

Student learning that will be demonstrated during the tournament

Students will be assessed on the following skills: control, passing, offensive tactics, defensive tactics, knowledge of rules, and teamwork. Throughout the unit the teacher will have the opportunity to assess all skills taught during gameplay. The skills that I will be teaching prior to the culminating event one will assess control, passing, and shooting, for example: the soccer dribble, one and two foot lift specific to soccer. The speedball gameplay assessment will encourage tactics, such as scoring points, field goals 3pts, drop kick 2 pts, touchdown 1 pt, penalty kick 1 pt, and end goal. The value of using soccer skills is emphasized in the points earned with soccer related skills. The assessments will also assess defensive and offensive strategies in order to gain tactical advantages over the opponent. Rules will be assessed on whether or not a student not only understands the rules, but is also able to use the rules of play to gain advantages over his/her opponents; gaining tactical advantages by using or enforcing rules to their advantage during game play. The lastassessment will occur with students learning in all three domains. Students will be assessed in an open setting in order to see application of critical skills taught, tactics, rules, and teamwork..

Assessment for measuring performance criteria

Diagnostic Assessment- The purpose of this assessment is to evaluate students; demonstrating their skill level and creating a baseline for the class.

The diagnostic assessment is used as a tool for establishing a student's skill level and a baseline.

1. SWBAT convert a rolling ball that is passed (kicked) from a partner 10 yards away by trapping the ball with his/her foot.

2. SWBAT use inside of foot -push pass to pass a soccer ball with correct fonn to a partner from 15 yards away so the partner does not have to move to receive the pass.

3. SWBAT dribble with control using both the inside and outside of the feet against light defense for 100 yards

Pre Test- The purpose of the final exam is for students to demonstrate cognitive knowledge gained from the unit. Students will be tested on the following: rules, history, positioning , scoring, offensive and defensive tactics.

Final exam completion I will review and grade. I will determine where students have gained the most learning and where learning still needs to occur.

Practice log/ Instant Activity- The purpose of this assessment is to assess participation, effort, and improvement through a log that is used during the instant activity each day. Students will log each day and noting personal records for one foot lift, roll-up, two foot lift, and kick-up. Demonstration of effort and participation through learning the skills will be reflected in the log.

My goal for improving my teaching

Is to provide appropriate feedback tha will refine or extend the students skills once the diagnostic test is

Set Induction:

Today's focus will be on you demonstrating your skill level and creating a baseline for the each one of

you for new unit speedball . Has anyone heard of a game called speedball? Speedball is a game E.D

Mitchel created to increase sports participation in soccer throughout the Midwest; with elements of

basketball and football used in the game of speedball. The game is a vigorous, continuous-motion activity

involving running (sprinting and jogging), and changes of direction (dodging, curving, stopping, and

restarting). It is played outdoors on a football field or soccer field and can also be played indoors as well.

The object of the game is to propel a ball to the opponent's end of the field and score points. The ball is

propelled either as a ground ball (soccer skills) or aerial ball (basketball and football). The skills

involved are kicking, passing (hands or feet), catching, trapping, and dribbling. Basketball and football

skills will

be assessed overall, under rules and strategies for defense and offense. Elements unique to speedball, such

as one foot lift and two foot lift , will be taught and assessed under rules and offensive/defensive

strategies. For today our objective will be to complete the stations that have been set-up for control,

passing, and shooting.

Before we get started I have a few cues I want you to remember throughout this lesson.

Control-The Purpose of this assessment is to assess stance, control, trapping, and performance to determine how one will demonstrate control after a prior lesson has been taught.

Passing- The Purpose of this assessment is to assess stance, weight transfer, pass, and perfonnance. This will detennine how one will demonstrate passing after a prior lesson has been taught.

Shooting- The Purpose of this assessment is to assess stance, weight transfer, shooting, and performance to determine how one will demonstrate shooting after a prior lesson has been taught.

Today's focus is on soccer dribbling. The focus of dribbling a ball is just like the push pass but while in motion! How many of you have played soccer and are familiar with dribbling a soccer ball? Can anyone tell me reason why dribbling is so important in the game of soccer? The reason dribbling is so important in soccer is because it allows you to be able to score and it als allows you to get the ball to your teammates. For today our objective is to be able to dribble a soccer ball while changing directions.Throughout today's lesson you will hear me blow my whistle when you hear my whistle it will either be a signal for you to stop what you are whistle for you to stop I want you to gather your soccer ball place it between your feet and have your eyes on me. This lets me know you are listening and ready to move on to what's next.

Today class you all will be able to demonstrate and apply the basic skill of speed ball in a game play

environment. A speedball tournament will be played so that all of you can demonstrate skills of: control,

shooting, passing, offensive tactics, defensive tactics, knowledge of rules, and teamwork . You all will be

divided into two team based upon skill level demonstrated diagnostic assessment and observations.
