The main entrance to the theatre is located between Hard Rock Cafe ® and the entrance to Universal Studios ® . What is Blue Man Group, ANYWAY?

BLUE MAN GROUP is a creative organization dedicated to producing innovative and provocative work in a variety of

media.

BLUE MAN GROUP evolved from a series of salon style discussions hosted by founders Chris Wink, Matt

Goldman, and Phil Stanton. Among their concerns was technology-induced cultural isolation. They desired to put a human face on technology – not to be afraid of it, but to adapt it and use it creatively. To open the discussion they organized their first public guerrilla-style event at Central Park, called it Funeral for the 80’s and sent a press release

to MTV. That was the birth of BLUE MAN GROUP. At a Harvard University lecture in 1995, Chris Wink explained,

“We never talked about our own work. We talked about other people’s work; things that were exciting to us. We didn’t have any idea we were going to develop a show – a full-length show. We didn’t know where we were going to end up.” They ended up with Tubes, a performance art work composed of pieces commenting on art and culture, named for the various inventive uses of industrial PVC tubing.

BLUE MAN GROUP is best known for its award-winning theatrical productions that critics have described as

“groundbreaking,” “hilarious,” “visually stunning” and “musically powerful.” These performances feature three enigmatic bald and blue characters who take the audience through a multi-sensory experience that combines theatre, percussive music, art, science, and vaudeville into a form of entertainment that is like nothing else. People

from all over the world, from all walks of life and from all age groups have become fans of BLUE MAN GROUP!

Tubes first appeared in New York City at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in January 1991 and again later that year at Lincoln Center as part of the Serious Fun Festival. In November of 1991, Tubes moved to the Astor Place Theatre in New York. The Boston production opened at the Charles Playhouse in October of 1995, and the Chicago production opened in 1997 at the Briar Street Theatre. In March of 2000, BLUE MAN GROUP – Live at the Luxor opened in Las Vegas. All shows continue to play sell-out houses.

BLUE MAN GROUP is also known for its unique style of music, which introduces a variety of invented instruments to

the traditions of both tribal and popular music. BLUE MAN GROUP’s Grammy nominated debut album, AUDIO was

released in December of 1999 of virgin Records. They collaborated with Moby and Jill Scott on a groundbreaking

performance in the spring of 2001 on the internationally telecast Grammy Awards. BLUE MAN GROUP remains at

the forefront of new technology as one of a handful of artists working within the DVD 5.1 audio surround sound format.

In addition to live shows and music in BLUE MAN GROUP history, they have created installations, happenings,

“unusual ads,” and a number of television-specific performances including several Emmy nominated Tonight Show

with Jay Leno appearances. BLUE MAN continued its commentary on the small screen with the whimsical Intel

Pentium III and IV global advertising campaigns.

Since its inception in Central Park, BLUE MAN GROUP remains a community of artists who explore, excite, challenge
