What is dark matter?

• Scientists don’t know exactly what dark matter is but they know it exists

• They know it exists because of how gravity is affected

• Dark matter is matter that exists but can’t be seen

What does it do?Dark matter is attributed to it’s strong gravitational pull that tries to keep the universe from expanding

Dark matter also accounts for about 23% of the universe. Normal matter only makes up about 4%.

What is dark energy?

• Dark energy is what fills 73% of the universe

• Dark energy is pretty much the same as dark matter except for it is what’s causing the acceleration of the expansion of the universe

• Scientists can’t exactly describe what dark energy is because they can’t see it but they know it’s there

• They don’t know if it’s an actual substance or if it’s just energy

• Space isn’t empty it’s filled with all kinds of things and this is the biggest thing

What would happen if we were able to harness dark matter and dark energy?

• Scientists aren’t really sure what would happen but we would at least gain the ability to make things that are invisible to the human eye

• We would probably be able to travel great distances in a small amount of time due to the expansion factor of dark energy

What I understood and questions I have

• Dark matter and dark energy is incredibly confusing

• How can you prove something exists if it isn’t there?

• Why do we want to harness them so badly? The benefits aren’t that rewarding

• Why is there so much dark matter and dark energy and so little normal matter?
