On October 9th 2019 we hosted speakers from KPMG who addressed in the morning the

high school students in one session and later spoke to elementary students in a second

session.

In both sessions I made observation about student’s

interaction where I have noticed that Elementary students

wants to know everything, they ask questions that we as

adults cannot answer or don’t know what to say. They are

intellectuals, natural in the way they talk and ask.

While High school students on the other hand were interested

in looking at each other for approval than getting the

information. The desire to know was not present, Could it be the fear of asking “Dump”

questions is worrying them?

Between elementary and high school grades, a change in mind of students had taken place.

Who is responsible for that, is it parents, teachers or the society?

Do we as adults help and encourage students in asking questions or do we discourage

them from discovering the world around them?

We must give the proper skills in order they can ask questions to learn about all their

surroundings.

We need to guide them to learn and inquire about anything they have in mind — this is

the role of Dasman school community.

The term "netbook" is a perfect description of the product: a small laptop PC intended mostly for

using internet-based tools and services -- surfing the web, running lightweight apps, saving files to

the cloud, and so on. Built with less costly components and fewer optional features, netbooks were

designed to be affordable systems for casual personal or family use, limited-duration business work,

or as an easily portable travel companion.

Netbooks have some major differences compared to laptops:

Processor: Netbook processors need to operate within even smaller spaces than laptop processors,

so netbooks typically use low-voltage, low-power CPUs similar to those used in tablet PCs. This limits

their cycle times to the range of 1 GHz to 2 GHz and makes advanced spreadsheet or photo editing

programs slower than on other systems.

Storage: To achieve their light weight (typically about 2 lbs.), netbooks contain much smaller hard

drives and, therefore, less storage space. Capacities vary widely, from smartphone-like 32-64 GB

models to ones with 150 GB or more. Systems with solid-state drives offer higher capacities but the

cost of the drives pushes them to the upper half of the netbook price range.

Features: Like tablets, netbooks are built to use the internet for accessing and using remote

services, saving data to the cloud, and so on. So, you won't find a DVD drive on most netbooks. There

are still multiple ports to attach USB devices, external monitors, etc., but the number and type of

ports typically goes down along with the price of the system.

Here at Dasman Bilingual School, the largest inclusive school in the State of Kuwait, our students are educated daily through physical education in the morning and team sports in the afternoon. Recently, we introduced our fitness and health related classes. High school students have been given the opportunity to work out and train particular muscle groups of their body, one would usually need to practice either while signing up at a professional gym outside school and/or having a private coach come at home to train with him/her. Exercising regularly is an important element of the overall growth and development of the whole student. In the short term, exercise helps to control appetite, boost mood, and improve sleep. In the long term, it reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, dementia, depression, and many cancers. Our balanced program of one hour physical education classes; one 30 minute team sport(s) and one 30 minute fitness workout helps our students develop healthy habits and the necessary organizational and self-preparatory skills needed to succeed in life. The fitness lessons offer students at DBS the opportunity to practice vigorous exercises and strength training that works all major muscle groups—legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders, and arms. Strength training involves lifting weights, using resistance bands, or exercises like push-ups and sit-ups, in which your body weight furnishes the resistance. Muscle-strengthening exercises are increasingly being recognized as playing an important role in cardiovascular health as well. With a set of dumbbells and a few simple moves, scholars can get a good strength workout after and/or before training team based sports such as volleyball, football, basketball & etc. Two basic exercises that strengthen a wide range of muscles in the body are a squat and a bent-over row. Boosting muscle mass helps burn more calories, both during and after exercise. Stronger muscles help the body pull oxygen and nutrients from the bloodstream more efficiently, lightening the load on the heart. A good workout at DBS fitness room is also a good way to start of a positive school day. DBS students are ready for the academic challenges throughout the day. Our students’ physical awareness and well-being helps them to monitor and balance their busy schedules between classes, studying, exams, and university preparation. The aim of DBS Physical Education Department is to ensure that all scholars graduating from DBS are physically literate, with the knowledge, skills and motivation needed to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activities. We empower our future generation with one motto: “Mens Sana in Corpore Sano” - A healthy mind in a healthy body - sharp call for personal perfection, finding limits and moving beyond them, developing a powerful and beautiful person called DBS Shark!. Our sharks achieved the incredible results competing in 7 rounds vs five international schools in the USAK league,

where our DBS2 team with Bader Al Rifaie, Mohammed Al Fouzan, Zaid Al Bader and Abdulmohsem Al Mutawa

accumulated 740 points.

The boys then quickly moved to the semifinals round 8 competing versa CES earning another 100points. That

result gave them a well-deserved spot on the final round 9 to compete against ACA Boys team 1.

After half an hour of extremely challenging questions held at AAG auditorium, our boys proudly placed 1st

accumulating another 220 and took the Championship, while breaking USAK Academic Games records with 1060

points in total.

Back pain at work:

Preventing pain and injury

Heavy lifting, repetitive movements and sitting at a desk all day can take a toll on your back. Get

the facts about back pain at work and how to prevent it.

By Abeer Elhassan, Physiotherapist.

Whether it’s dull and achy or sharp and stapping, back pain can make it hard to concentrate on your

job. Even routine office work can cause or even worsen back pain.

Understand what causes back pain at work and what you can do to prevent it.

Common causes of back pain at work

A number of factors can contribute to back pain at work. For example:

Force. Exerting too much force on your back such as by lifting or moving heavy objects can cause

injury.

Repetition. Repeating certain movements, especially those that involve twisting or rotating your

spine, can injure your back.

Inactivity. An inactive job or a desk job can contribute to back pain, especially if you have poor

posture or sit all day in a chair with inadequate back support.

Back pain and life style factors

Of course, factors such as aging, obesity and poor physical condition also can contribute to back pain.

While you can’t control your age, you can focus on maintaining a healthy weight, which minimizes stress

on your back.

Start by eating a healthy diet. Make sure you get enough calcium and vitamin D. These nutrients can

help prevent osteoporosis, a condition that causes your bones to become weak and brittle and is

responsible for many of the bone fractures that lead to back pain.

Combine aerobic exercise, such as swimming or walking, with exercises that strengthen and stretch

your back muscles and abdomen.

For most healthy adults, the Department of Health and Human Services- at Mayo Clinic recommends at

least 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes a week of vigorous aerobic activity

– and strength training exercises at least twice a week.

Also, if you smoke, quit. Smoking reduces blood flow to your lower spine, which can contribute to spinal

disc degeneration and slow healing from back injuries. Coughing associated with smoking can cause also

back pain. Preventing back pain at work.

You can take steps to avoid and prevent back pain and injuries at work. For example:

Pay attention to posture. When standing, balance your weight evenly on your feet. Don’t

slouch. To promote good posture when sitting, choose a chair that supports your spinal curves.

Adjust the weight of your chair so that your feet rest flat on the floor. Remove your wallet or

cellphone from your back pocket when sitting to prevent putting extra pressure on your

buttocks or lower back.

Lift properly. When lifting and carrying a heavy object, lift your legs and tighten your core

muscles. Hold the object close to your body. Maintain the natural curve of your back. Don’t twist

when lifting. If an object is too heavy to lift safely, ask someone to help you.

Modify repetitive tasks. Use lifting devices when available to help you lift loads. When you work

at a computer, make sure that your monitor, keyboard, mouse and chair are positioned

properly. If you frequently talk on the phone and type or write at the same time, place your

phone n speaker or use a head set.

Avoid unnecessary bending, twisting and reaching. Limit the time you spend carrying heavy brief

cases, purses and bags.

Listen to your body. If you must sit for a prolonged period, change your position often.

Periodically walk around and gently stretch your muscles to relieve tension.

Back pain can plague your work days and free time. You’re not stuck with it, though. Examine

your work environment and address situations that might aggravate your back. Even small steps

to ease your back pain are steps in the right direction.

About Sudoku, puzzle game and how to play?

Sudoku is one of the most popular logic-based number-placement puzzle game. The literal meaning of "Sudoku" in Japanese is "the number that is single".

The objective is to fill a nine-by-nine (9x9) grid with digits so that each row, column and 3x3 section contain number between 1 and 9, with each number used once and only once in each section. The Sudoku game players are provided with partially filled grid meant to be solved.

Who would like to participate in the SUDOKO contest can deliver the answers to Rana Massouh by hand.

The correct answers for the game will be collected and there

will be a draw to choose three winners and give prizes
