Communication Systems - a
Communication describes the general information exchange Systems. People. Media. etc.
![Page 5: Data Communication and Computer Networks (BIT 121) Dr. Husam Osta Assistant Professor](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070419/56815b70550346895dc967e4/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Communication Systems - b
Primitive communications systems: Smoke signals. Drums. Semaphore.

Communication Systems - c
Modern communications systems : Telephone. Internet. Television. Radio. Fax.

Communication sorts of things
What sorts of things are communicated?Speech.Pictures.Video.Data.
![Page 8: Data Communication and Computer Networks (BIT 121) Dr. Husam Osta Assistant Professor](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070419/56815b70550346895dc967e4/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Communication components
Communication components consisted the following:
Transmitter Receiver Medium Message
Protocol
sender of information destination of information area to bring information from sender to receiver The message is the information (data) to be
communicated. A protocol is a set of rules that govern data
communications.

What is a Communication System?
Communication systems are systems designed to transmit information.
![Page 10: Data Communication and Computer Networks (BIT 121) Dr. Husam Osta Assistant Professor](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070419/56815b70550346895dc967e4/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Types of Communication
Point-to-point CommunicationMultipoint CommunicationSimplex CommunicationHalf Duplex CommunicationFull – duplex Communication
![Page 11: Data Communication and Computer Networks (BIT 121) Dr. Husam Osta Assistant Professor](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070419/56815b70550346895dc967e4/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Point-to-point CommunicationIn this type, communication takes place
between two end points. For instance, in the case of voice
communication using telephones, there is one calling party and one called party.
![Page 12: Data Communication and Computer Networks (BIT 121) Dr. Husam Osta Assistant Professor](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070419/56815b70550346895dc967e4/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Multipoint Communication In this type of communication, there is one
sender and multiple recipients. For example, in voice conferencing, one person
will be talking but many others can listen. The message from the sender has to be
multicast to many others.
![Page 13: Data Communication and Computer Networks (BIT 121) Dr. Husam Osta Assistant Professor](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070419/56815b70550346895dc967e4/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Simplex Communication
In simplex communication, communication is possible only in one direction.
Example:TV Radio
![Page 14: Data Communication and Computer Networks (BIT 121) Dr. Husam Osta Assistant Professor](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070419/56815b70550346895dc967e4/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Half Duplex Communication Half-duplex communication is
possible in both directions between two entities (computers or persons), but one at a time.
2 way signal transmission but not simultaneously.
Example: walkie talkie
![Page 15: Data Communication and Computer Networks (BIT 121) Dr. Husam Osta Assistant Professor](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070419/56815b70550346895dc967e4/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Full – duplex Communication In a full-duplex communication system, the two
parties—the caller and the called one—can communicate simultaneously.
Telephone is one of the examples of this type.

Network
A computer network is an interconnection of a group of computers to exchange data and share the resources.
