Overview

The Symantec™ Endpoint Protection Integration

Component is designed to bring power and simplicity to

the process of upgrading and deploying your endpoints

to the Symantec™ Endpoint Protection 11.0 agent. The

Integration Component provides easier migrations and

installations for mid- to large-sized businesses with

integrated operational reporting and management on

the Symantec™ Management Platform. This free

component can scale for both LAN connected and

remote endpoints and facilitate migration from

Symantec AntiVirus™ Corporate Edition, Symantec™

Client Security, Confidence Online™ for Corporate PCs,

or Symantec Sygate™ Enterprise Protection through

robust delivery mechanisms that provide detailed

reporting, broad dashboards, multicasting technology,

and advanced client discovery.

Organizations can easily add management for clients

and servers to compliment security with Altiris™ Client

Management Suite from Symantec and Altiris™ Server

Management Suite from Symantec, which are also built

on the Symantec™ Management Platform. By leveraging

a common management infrastructure, you can improve

the security configuration of your systems, making a

well managed endpoint a secure endpoint. Your

organization would not only benefit from the integration

of security and management as it relates to security, but

from the improved productivity and decreased costs of

managing endpoints. Effective endpoint management is

key to reducing costs and providing a quality, stable, and

secure computing environment.

Benefits

• Extensive endpoint discovery with Active Directory

integration

• Predefined migration tasks including easy upgrades

from third-party vendors

• One click tasks allow administrators or technicians to

initiate virus scans

• Predefined agent health tasks keep systems running

with optimal performance

• Customizable dashboard and reports provide summary

details of agent rollouts and status

Centralized endpoint discovery and inventory

Knowing what endpoints are in your environment is

essential to ensuring your enterprise is properly

protected. Leveraging the discovery features in the

Symantec™ Management Platform and specific antivirus

inventory capabilities in the Integration Component

provides a single snapshot of known systems, what

existing protection products are installed and the

version of the protection agents. Endpoints can then be

easily organized into specific groups based on Active

Directory structures, corporate departments, etc. to

prepare for agent upgrades. These are the first stages

required for a standardized and successful rollout

process.

Centralized rollout and migration assistance

Take advantage of predefined software delivery tasks

that utilize robust software delivery mechanisms to

control the rollout, upgrade or uninstall of other security

clients through scheduling and customizable steps. You

can track delivery status—for example, the number of

successful installs or failure— for reporting and

streamlined troubleshooting. The Integration

Component includes pre-built upgrade tasks from

third-party vendors, so you can uninstall agents from

other vendors prior to your Symantec™ Endpoint

Protection client installation.

Figure 2. Dashboards provide a snapshot of current agentinstallations and their status.

Client health and scanning tasks

Operations and help desk technicians can initiate virus

and security scans from the console as part of routine

troubleshooting. The Integration Component includes

predefined client health tasks to help ensure the client is

functioning correctly. Health tasks include repairing

virus definitions, and checking and restarting common

services.

Integrated reporting

The Symantec™ Management Platform provides

powerful reporting features and customizable

dashboards that allow you quickly view summary

information and act against the results. You can quickly

report against key parameters, such as security content

status and client version summary, and with a single

click access tasks to for client distribution or to restart

client services. Customizable dashboards can reflect

Integrated reporting - continued

details on Symantec™ Endpoint Protection agents or

they can be combined with information from other

installed products. Organizations that also implement

Altiris™ Client Management Suite may combine any

information in the management database to create a

single security view across various solutions; for

example, adding in patch status, security configuration

checks, and so on.

What's New?

Antivirus inventory and migration support

Identify and migrate antivirus software from Symantec™,

McAfee®, Trend Micro™, Sophos, CA®, F-Secure®,

Kaspersky®, and ESET®

Detailed error reporting

Quickly identify migration failures to rapidly remediate

issues by understanding the reasons for failure.

Figure 3. Web reports help you determine the extent of your clientprotection. This report shows which tasks have been completedsuccessfully.

Full virus scan task

Trigger or schedule a full scan from the management

platform.

Leverage Advanced Management Features

• Maintenance windows–Prevent tasks from

interrupting business productivity

• Trend reporting–Snapshot a report for historical

trending or quickly filter via search parameter

• Role and scope based security–Easily limit

administrative access to assigned resources

• Global Support–Distribute management servers for a

larger environment
