Good Day,

It is with great pleasure that I ask to be included in the Volunteer Citizen WorkGroup, in order to fill the vacancy as Sterling District Representative.

I have lived in Loudoun County for about 15 years and have developed a greatlove for this community. I’ve become increasingly involved in my district and amparticularly interested in enhancing my district in every way possible.

Although I was thrilled to see that the Sterling District has a vacancy on this particular advisory board, I would welcome any other suggestions if anothercommittee, commission or advisory board would appear to be better suited forme based on my resume.

Thank you very much, I look forward to receiving a response.

Best,

From: Pilar Vasquez Sent: Wednesday, March 12, 2014 2:47 PM To: Prakash, Rachna Cc: Pilar Vasquez Subject: CSB Position Dear Rachna Prakash, I am applying for one of the At-Large positions of the Community Services Board. I learned about the position after a meeting with Joseph Wilson last week, and am excited about the prospect of joining the Board. I believe I may have a lot to offer. My oldest daughter has received services from Mental Health at the county for about 15 years, which has given me great insights. Besides my direct experience with that program, I have substantial experience with social causes in numerous charitable organizations, as you will see from my attached resume, as well as an undergraduate degree in psychology. In addition I have had twenty years of experience with a major corporation. I believe I could be an active and enthusiastic board member, and would be able to fulfill the written requirements required of members of CSB. I will be pleased to answer any questions you may have, and I look forward to hearing from you. Pilar Vasquez-Lunt

Child Life Student Practicum/Volunteer

As an aspiring student of child life, I shadowed the Child Life Specialists. Their job is to provide the children with all the support they need while in the hospital. From teaching them how to cope with stress and anxiety to promote normal growth and development. This is done by creating a healthy environment, playing with the children, assisting and supporting their families and ultimately advocating for them. While I worked at the hospital, I got the chance to serve the Latino community, often the most vulnerable due to the lack of communication and understanding.

Kidsave International March 2006 – August 2006 Volunteer in the program “Summer Miracles”, which brought nine orphans from Colombia and 12 from Peru to the Washington, D.C., area for the summer to meet couples interested in adopting them. Raised the funds, translated for foster parents, organized weekend social activities and events to expose the children to life in America as well as giving adults the opportunity to get to know the kids. Acted as a liaison between couples and institutional reps/caregivers to encourage adoptions. All nine children from Colombia were adopted, eight in the D.C. area and one in France. Softly International August 2005 – March 2006 Program: “A bed for every child”.
