News and AnnouncementsAIMS Accreditation Visit:

Thank everyone who helped this week during the three-day visit by the reaccreditation team of the As-sociation of Independent Maryland Schools. This visit was part of the 10-year reaccreditation of our school with this prestigious association. You will receive an update next week from Head of School Fran Lukens about the visit and other aspects of this AIMS reac-creditation process. But we wanted to thank all the parents who helped during the visit. Our PA handled hospitality for our guests, providing meals and snacks here at school and at their hotel. A number of parents also met with members of the reaccreditation team to share their thoughts about our program and our school community. The parents’ role is extremely important in the reaccreditation process and we deeply appreciate your participation. We also want to thank our staff, who have spent almost two years preparing our self-study for the reac-creditation, working extra hours and over the summer to reflect on and write about St. Anne’s School. We will share more about what we as educators learned during the process and how this process enhances our school and your child’s education.

Eighth Grade Graduation Dinner Slide Show:

Thanks to those families who have sent photos to Lisa Wells for the slide show – including the follow-ing: Crawford, Heacock, Lomax, Bird, Dixon, Grimes, Kelley, Hebden, Dixon, and McDowney. The deadline for sending in photos is April 30 – ex-cept for those Kodak Moments that arise in May! If you e-mail photos through Outlook, please send them in their original size. Photos that are sent in smaller or compressed format generally do not have a high enough resolution for the DVD program and cannot be used. Alternatively, you can send a data stick or cd, and indicate whether or not you would like it returned. Also, if you have suggestions for music to for the DVD, send them along in digital format or a cd. Questions? Contact Lisa Wells at [email protected]. Thanks!

To gain a sense of history and context for the stories of the Old Testament, Fifth Grade religion students model clothing traditionally worn about 4,000 years ago, during Abraham’s time.

From the Parents Association

“You have a gem of a school.”Congratulations to the faculty and staff at St. Anne’s School for an incredible three-day Association of Independent Maryland Schools (AIMS) accreditation visit! I had the pleasure to work with many other parents this week to ensure the AIMS visiting team felt welcome, never went hungry, and was able to do the important work they do in evaluating our school. When I visited with them briefly after two long days of observation and interviews with students, staff and parents, one team member said to me, “You have a gem of a school.” This comment came from an experienced educator who works in one of the very best schools. There is no higher compliment than to be complimented by a peer. Just as a woodworker can easily recognize fine craftsmanship, an educator can best recognize a quality school. And ours is a gem. Thank you to everyone who helped with the AIMS visit, especially our Teacher Appreciation chairs who coordinated hospitality for the week. And a sincere thank you and congratulations to the administration, teachers and staff at St. Anne’s School for all you do for our students everyday, not just when the AIMS team is in town. Be-cause this week was no different than any other in terms of the energy, love and learning you share with our children. What a wonderful feeling going into Easter weekend, a time of rejuvenation, celebration and rebirth. Many blessings to you and your family.

Speed Stacking is one of the new classes planned this spring through Enrich Annapo-lis! Speed stacking is gaining popularity nationwide as a way to improve creativity and coordination. Check it out in the Spring Catalog online at St.AnnesSchool.org. Classes begin April 6. Below, Eighth Graders complete a group stacking activity in physical education class.

News and Announcements Poetry Contest Winners:

Evan M. (Eighth Grade) and Kaylee H. (Third Grade) were selected as Maryland’s first place winners for their grade level in the National Garden Clubs, Inc. 2009 “Our Beautiful World” Youth Poetry Contest. Their poems have been sent on to compete at the regional level.

Elle W. (Eighth Grade) won a silver medal in the Scho-lastic Art & Writing Awards for her poem. This is the nation’s largest, longest running program of its kind, and judging is done by professionals in the field. This year, 165,000 works of art and writing were submitted; her recognition means Elle’s entry was in the top 1 percent of submissions. The award ceremony is at Carnegie Hall in New York on, unfortunately, the same day as St. Anne’s School graduation!

Admissions Corner: Open Houses:

St. Anne’s School hosts Walk-in Wednesday Open Houses throughout the school year. If you know of families interested in St. Anne’s School, please let them know about the Open Houses.
