HARMONY DAY – Thursday 21st March March 21 is Australia's Harmony Day, which celebrates the country's cultural diversity. It coincides with the United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values. It is an important day because it gives Australians an opportunity to celebrate our successes as a culturally diverse society. Orange is the official Harmony Day colour and many people wear orange clothes or ribbons. Our students are encouraged to dress in a National Costume or in clothing that is ORANGE.

Chinese Student Award - Isabelle Sinclair Last Friday I was honoured to be the Top Year 6 Chinese Language Student. My family and I were invited to the Confucius Talk at CDU where I was awarded with an amazing prize. It was fantastic and very exciting.

Student Voice – Year 2 Rowe

The students of Year 2 Rowe have been learning about culture and how it

effects our daily lives. We began by looking at the different cultures of

the students in our class and the special celebrations that we have with

our families.

We have now moved on to looking at the traditional inhabitants of

Australia, the Indigenous Aboriginal people and their culture as displayed

through their art and Dreamtime stories.

Who Made Australia? A snake called Goorialla was a Rainbow Serpent. He made mountains. One of them was called Naradunga. He also made rivers with his big, heavy body. He made a lilly lagoon called Minalinka. It was not too deep so it was shallow. By Ismaya Hartono-Young The Rainbow Serpent The Rainbow Serpent is an important Dreamtime story which is one of the Aboriginal traditional stories. We have learnt that the Dreamtime stories are about the beliefs of the Aboriginal people that have been passed on by the Elders, telling the stories to the children. The Rainbow Serpent story is about how Australia was made. By Kayde Bishop The Rainbow Serpent The Rainbow Serpent is one of the special Aboriginal stories. This is the first amazing art story that they made because in the Rainbow Serpent he was trying to find his people and he did find his people. By Cody Combeer The Dreamtime The Dreamtime stories were made to tell a story about animals like the kangaroo and the porpoise. Also a lot of other stories. By Ethan Witham

How the Tasmanian Tigers got Stripes. There are Dreamtime stories because this is how the Aboriginal people believe the World was made and the things like the mountains and other things were made. By John Son
