Brookwood Oratorical Contest

This quarter, fifth graders all across Forsyth County have been participating in the annual Optimist International Oratorical Contest . The topic for this year's speech is “HOW MY BEST BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN OTHERS.” On Friday, February 19, Brookwood's fifth grade

classroom winners participated in Brookwood Elementary School's

annual Oratorical Contest.

Congratulations to our two winners, Lexi Farris and Steven Hao, both from Ms. Fingerle’s class. These Bobcats will represent Brookwood at

the Forsyth County Semifinals on Monday evening, February 29 at the

Forsyth County Board of Education Building. Congratulations to all of the classroom winners who participated in Brookwood’s finals:

Kindergarten Registration 2016/2017

Kindergarten Registration 2016/2017 Registration for Kindergarten students for NEXT school year (1st day of school August 4, 2016)

Kindergarten round-up will be held at the

Almon C. Hill Education Center 136 Elm Street, Cumming, GA 30041

Registration is located around the back of the building.

Brookwood students are scheduled to register February 22 – 26.

Prior to registration, follow the directions below:

HOW TO REGISTER

1. Visit www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/KKenroll 2. When the page opens you will need to do the following 3 tasks:

a. Make an online appointment to go to the Hill Center to register b. Review and gather all documents* c. Pre-register your child’s information into the online system

*If you are missing any documents, please register anyway. You will be considered incomplete, but you

can return documents at a later time that is convenient for you. This will allow the school to have your

contact information and inform you of upcoming Kindergarten events.

Entering Kindergarten: According to Georgia law, children must be five years old on or before

September 1

Family Science Night

The ever-popular Family Science Night is back! Come join us at Brookwood Elementary on Thursday, February 25 from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Big Thinkers will be back with an all-new presentation, followed by fun, hands-on discovery stations and awesome presentations. Brookwood Art Night Needs Your Help

We are in need of a committee chairperson and volunteers to make this annual event a success. Every year

the students love coming to Art Night where they can show off their beautiful framed artwork to family and

friends, but we need your support. This event is a lot of fun, but also a lot of work. Please email

March PTA Membership Madness

Please go to brookwoodpta.org and sign in, then buy a single $6 membership! We would love to advance! The top 8 schools with the largest amount of NEW memberships submitted to Georgia PTA by February 28th will advance to the Elite Eight. MEMBERSHIP MADNESS FINALS: In the month of March, the Elite Eight will compete against each other to sign up the most NEW members. The school with the most NEW MEMBERSHIPS in March is our TOURNAMENT WINNER.

Jump Rope for Heart

We are so excited about Jump Rope for Heart this year! Students have done

an amazing job raising money and our jump rope unit in PE has been going

very well. If you haven’t already, make sure you register online at

www.heart.org/jump to donate and send emails asking for donations. All

fundraising packets must be completed and turned in by February 29.

We have our lunch date set and limo picked out for the

top earner in each grade so there is still plenty of time

left to earn your all expenses paid trip to lunch. After all

the money has been counted, winners will be announced

on the March 10 morning news.

Brookwood At GCA 2016 Metro Atlanta K-8 Team State Qualifier

Congratulations to the Brookwood Elementary Chess Team for its excellent performance at the Georgia

Chess Association’s K-8 State Qualifier. The tournament was held on Saturday, February 6 at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Hundreds of elementary school teams throughout Georgia competed for placement in the

upcoming state tournament. Kid Chess is proud to announce the Brookwood Chess Team earned the school a coveted invitation to the GCA 2016 K-8 Team State Championship on March 19 at Taylor

Road Elementary School in Alpharetta. Outstanding job chess players!

Camp Invention Will Be Back This Summer at Brookwood

Merchant Rewards Grade Level Contest

PTA is hosting a grade-level contest for Merchant Rewards. The winning grade level will earn 30 minutes of extra recess, with their teachers earning extra planning time. Submit your Box Tops, Coke Codes, and Campbell’s Labels for Education to the grade level box in a bag marked with the grade level. All valid Coke Codes, Box Tops, and Campbell’s Labels are worth 1 point. All Bonus Box Tops will be worth 3 points. **NEW** Kroger: Register your Kroger card for rewards. Brookwood Elementary PTA will earn 10 points for each Brookwood child. Go to www.kroger.com.

Click on Community/ Rewards Login or create an account Scroll down to community and click enroll Type Brookwood, (select the one on Vaughan Dr) and confirm. Print your confirmation with your personal information (name must be seen, can cross out the rest) and the

Community Rewards section below. Write each child’s name/ grade on this form and submit with Box Tops. New and existing Kroger accounts apply.

We are excited to be partnering with Strong Girls for the “letting go of

perfection workshop” designed for girls in grades 3-5. This workshop

will be held immediately after school on March 18 from 2:30 – 5:30
