Sharen is an integral member of our staff and works tirelessly and her efforts ensure school community has a strong knowledge of and connection to Aboriginal culture. Isaac W of 5/6D was also recognised for his persistence and perseverance with learning. Since joining us in 2017 Isaac has always worked to his full potential and has quickly become a respected and well liked student by staff and students. As Isaac was on the Stage 3 excursion, he will receive his award at this week’s assembly. Well done Isaac. Quality Teaching Rounds Wyoming Public School staff will commence professional learning called Quality Teaching Rounds in the coming weeks. During this time groups of teachers will be observing lessons of colleagues and using the Quality Teaching framework to code the nature of teacher-student interactions and the quality of the learning taking place. All teachers are participating in this wonderful opportunity resulting in 1 day away from class duties per week for a period of 5 weeks. We have worked hard ensuring that wherever possible the same casual teacher will replace the classroom teacher and that regular lessons will be followed during the days. We thank all parents for their understanding that teachers at Wyoming are working hard to continue their own professional learning journey.

PRINCIPAL’S UPDATE

Hello to all, I had the pleasure of attending the Cooinda Local AECG Awards last week where our Aboriginal Education Worker, Sharen Herbert was recognised for her extensive work with staff, students and families of Wyoming Public School.

The course is fully subsidised and your only cost will be the $10 booking fee. Please call Lisa Matthews 0403 305 891 as soon as possible to register.

Stage 3 Excursion Feedback I am so very proud of all students in Stage 3 who attended the Stage 3 excursion last week. Feedback from staff was that your behaviour and attentiveness was exceptional and that you engaged in all opportunities available while you were away. Congratulations!

A very big thank you to Mrs Sharon Shearman, Mrs Sharon Head, Ms Carly Dufficy, Mrs Michelle Francis, Mrs Rose Wastell and Mrs Paula Mehrtens who accompanied students for the 3 days. We are very grateful that you provide such wonderful experiences to our students.

Nesting Plovers With the warmer weather commencing earlier than usual our resident plovers have nested in various locations around the school. Please take a moment to talk to your children about the importance of giving these birds space and walking slowly, calmly and not making eye contact if near them

Attention on Attendance Our attendance figures continue to be exceptional with 22 students on perfect attendance and 24 students who have had less than 2 days off this year. Congratulations to students and parents for this great effort.

Have a great fortnight

2018 BOOKWEEK, BOOKFAIR & LIBRARY NEWS

2018 BOOKWEEK, BOOKFAIR & LIBRARY NEWS Welcome back to another busy and exciting term in the school library. Miss Nagle and I are continuing to upgrade the computers. This has allowed classes to have lessons in the library wherever possible. The computers are amazingly popular every morning before school and at lunch times as well. New books continue to be purchased and borrowed by students, whilst other books are used in class literacy lessons. We are extremely lucky that the school prioritises the resourcing of our wonderful library. I would like to thank the wonderful volunteers who continue to find time to cover books and help out wherever possible, especially during Books in Homes. Without volunteers our school library would not be able to function. Book Week Costume Day – Thursday 23 August In Term 3 it is Book Week again!! The theme this year is, ‘Find Your Treasure’. As usual students will be allowed to dress according to the theme. Their ‘treasure’ may be a literary character such as Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Cat in the Hat or a Super Hero. Or they may decide to dress as a pirate, or even a parrot. Other appropriate characters will be discussed in class and during library lessons. The following costume guidelines must be adhered to:-

• ensure your child is dressed according to themes suitable for a primary school book

• all students must have covered shoes, but no ‘midriff’ tops and no singlets in their uniforms

• students MUST NOT bring swords, guns or any other weapons as part of a pirate outfit or any other outfit

The book week assembly and costume parade will commence in the hall at 2pm.

Book Fair – Monday 20 August – Thursday 23 August During Book Week I will also be running the Scholastic Book Fair. As usual there will be a large selection of books and some other ‘knick knacks’ to purchase. I look forward to your continued support of the book fair as I extend our goal to $3000 this year!! Last year we made over $2000.00 in sales which in turn allowed me to purchase 25 sets of multiple readers for Literacy lessons in Stage 1. Previously I have been able to purchase Stage 2 and Stage 3 excellent and modern dictionaries as a result of the money raised by the Wyoming Public School community during the book fair.
