    LAWRENCE E. DATNOFFProfessor and Head, Department of Plant Pathology & Crop Physiology, LSU & LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, LA.

    Background: Since August 2008, Dr. Datnoff has provided leadership for the development of excellence inresearch, extension and teaching in the department. Furthermore, he has provided leadership in facilitating theprofessional development of faculty, staff and students; in the development of courses and curricula, in managing thedepartments physical and financial resources, and in administering state, regional, national and international programs othe department. From 2004-2008, Dr. Datnoff was located in the Department of Plant Pathology, University of FloridaGainesville, and from 1988-2003, he was located at the Everglades Research and Education Center, Belle Glade, FLFrom 1986-1988, Dr. Datnoff served as a Research Affiliate with USDA-ARS, Ft. Detrick, MD studying Karnal Bunt ofWheat in Mexico. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, 1985, where part of his dissertation research wasconducted in Zambia. Dr. Datnoff was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Brazil from 1976-1978. Dr. Datnoff is fluent inPortuguese and can communicate in Spanish. Over the past 26 years, his research has focused primarily on nutritionaand biological control of plant diseases of rice, turfgrass and vegetables while teaching Fundamentals of Plant Pathologyand serving as chair, co-chair or committee member for 17 Ph.D./M.S., 4 D.P.M. and 5 short-term scholar students.

    Career Publications: Two groundbreaking books entitled Silicon in Agriculture andMineral Nutrition and PlanDisease, 22 book chapters, 86 refereed publications and 243 non-refereed publications and abstracts.
