Charlie was filmed over seven jam-packed weekends in Atlanta, Georgia, with very little to no budget. The talented cast and crew joined together to create this visually vibrant story for the screen. The look, tone and style of the production were heavily influenced by French cinema, the early films of Spike Lee and Madonna, and the films and music of Prince.

The result is an interesting world where the aesthetics of throwback 1980’s gritty New York has been combined with present-day Atlanta flair and flourishes of whimsy in this heartwarming tale of love between sisters.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS

BOBBY HUNTLEY II is a director, producer, writer and editor who began his journey as a filmmaker at the age of ten years old. His intense passion for the arts and creativity has captured audiences with each new project.

He first gained notice after joining forces with his mentor Chet A. Brewster, and also enlisting the help of fellow creative Nikki Wade to create a fan-made trailer for the New Edition story, NE HEARTBREAK, which went viral in 2015 with several million views. Since then, he has written and directed new exciting projects such as the sensual and striking love story Louisiana 1961. The short film has screened nationwide, including two showings at the prestigious Manns Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. The success has lead to Louisiana 1961 currently being developed into a feature length project.

Now with Charlie, he’s excited and eager to bring a fresh and unique story about the bonds of Black women to the forefront for audiences worldwide. With his Bobby Huntley Films imprint, his goal is to become a highly sought after director with a canon of classic films that touch the masses for generations to come.

NIKKI WADE is a multi-talented writer, director, producer, performing artist, host and radio personality who dares not limit herself in the realm of entertainment.

Originally from Seattle, Washington, Nikki has been entertaining audiences since the age of four, with her foundation being in theater and dance. Since then, “The Diva” Nikki Wade established herself as not just an accomplished singer, songwriter, and actress, but also as the owner of Divadom Entertainment Group. She is also a successful booking agent, events coordinator, published author, a producer of movies and theater, and now a full fledged filmmaker.

Nikki has received several awards and commendations for her philanthropic service within the community as well as her talented contributions to the entertainment industry. This Renaissance woman has created quite a resume. You name it; she’s done it. A talent like Nikki Wade is undeniable and cannot be ignored as she continues to blaze the stage to infinite measures!

CHET BREWSTER has been inspired by the appeal of filmmaking and television production since the age of seven. Chet got his professional start with CNN within a week of graduating Emerson College in Boston. He soon started his own production company DavenStar 1 Entertainment and has been directing, producing, and editing for film and television on live, as well as live-to-tape productions and events for over thirty years.

His credits include The Kings of Comedy tour and movie, the first nine Tyler Perry stage play DVDs, and Keith Sweat’s first live concert DVD, as well as a three-time award winning comedy special for Showtime, Hulu and Netflix. Chet has also provided both technical and/or directorial contributions toward multiple television specials, award shows, and productions for Showtime, ESPN, BET, TBS, Bounce TV, Gospel Music Channel, Up TV, PBS and TV One. Currently, Chet is also focusing more efforts on directing talent in multiple narrative shorts and full-length feature films.

KORTNEE PRICE is certainly a small-town girl with big city dreams. A newly Atlanta based actress, creative artist, and blogger, Kortnee entered the film industry in 2016 on a leap of faith and has no plans on looking back.

Along with completing her first feature film, La Vie Magnifique de Charlie, where she plays the lead role of Charlie, she aspires to inspire all women through the arts and to be an advocate of natural beauty, self-love, and anti-bullying.

She has appeared in commercial and print ads for Home Depot, Volkswagen, Verifone, and Atlanta Streetcar. Her portrayal of Beneatha in the classic A Raisin in the Sun is her most prized role of all of her past stage productions. She is a highly sought-after talent, and has featured on ID, Discovery, and TV One. Nikki LaShae is excited to be a part of the wonderful cast of Charlie and looks forward to the reactions from her character Keturah’s antics!

LAILAA BROOKINGS is an American actress born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. She is best known for her quirky and hilarious portrayal of Ella Fynn in Bobby Huntley’s 1940’s comedy film Herbert and Cleofis and the Unfortunate Chronicles of the Kidnapping of Mrs. Ella Fynn. Lailaa experienced the traumatic loss of her mother and best friend Cheryl Brookings, who passed away during her fight with breast cancer in 2006. To cope with the heartbreaking loss, Lailaa chose to turn to the arts to help channel her pain into something positive. “Acting gives my life purpose and meaning.” Lailaa’s high energy and warm smile light up a room. She is a refreshing addition to the cast and keeps everyone laughing.

KAI N. TURÉ is a nine-year-old actress, singer and dancer hailing from Atlanta, Georgia. Kai’s television career began by recurring as Tenesha on Tyler Perry’s drama on OWN, If Loving You is Wrong. Since then, she has gone on to star in multiple television and film roles. Most recently, you can catch her on the big screen alongside Jeremy Irons and Jack Huston in an upcoming feature film, An Actor Prepares. She has been featured in numerous national commercials, industrials, and print ads featured in various outlets. When she is not on set, she enjoys riding her bike and going to the park with her friends.

LaKISHA HUGHES is an American director of photography, based in Atlanta, GA. As a student at Full Sail University, she developed her love for cinema and an eye for cinematography. She began working professionally in 1995, shooting live video production of conventions and worship services in places as far away as Johannesburg, South Africa.

She developed her niche for lighting and composition while working as a freelance cinematographer beginning in 2015. Since beginning her professional career, she has shot over 15 shorts, 10 music videos and three documentaries. La Vie Magnifique de Charlie is her debut feature film production.

MARK ALSTON is a motion picture and video craftsman, with over 29 years of involvement in some of the most poignant and artistic works one has ever seen in television and film. Born in Hartford, Connecticut and raised in Queens, New York and East Orange, New Jersey, Mr. Alston has had a love for the visual arts since the age of 14.

From lighting director to key grip, gaffer, or principal director of photography, Mark Alston has been an extremely sought-after asset on major and independent films sets across the country. He has received numerous awards, including two Emmys and two Emmy nominations.

JEFF PAIGE is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter and producer. Jeff’s instrumentation includes guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, saxophone and even the clarinet. Jeff’s is familiar with the stage as a professional actor and a director of indie film and theatre productions.

JYPSY NICHOLS is an interdisciplinary artist and modern-day Renaissance woman. This multi-talented woman has been able to use her training on stage as an actress in numerous musical productions and as a background vocalist in many performances.
