Two Stops Short of Dagenham

Barking is a predominantly working class town in east London with a rich history and large areas of degeneration contrasting with new regeneration projects. The purpose of this project is to communicate this area’s unique personality.

Two Stops Short of Dagenham takes the form of a book which describes Barking through photography of the main areas of its town centre. The images capture the contrast within the area; derelict housing estates, historical ruins and brand new regeneration spaces. Archive photography from the past fifty years is re-shot and compared to put the visuals into context.

To complete this image of the area, quotations from Barking’s residents are printed within the folded pages, giving the book an added dimension.

Soupy Twist

Soupy Twist is a comedy review magazine with a distinctive graphic style inspired by the cheap and cheerful aesthetic of comic zines. This graphic treatment communicates the subject matter and sets it apart visually.

Quaker Oats

The new product from Quaker Oats is designed to attract young women with a simple, fresh and healthy tone of voice.

The packaging communicates traditional values through its shape, colour and simplicity. These traditional values are representative of healthy, natural and tasty food.

National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery wanted to generate more pop-in visits and change negative perceptions of the gallery, targeting local workers and students. The campaign consists of bluetooth posters, located in public transport and university campuses.

Bluetooth posters challenge the negative, ‘old-fashioned’ perceptions of the gallery and are an effective way of reaching the student audience with an estimated 81% owning a bluetooth enabled mobile phone. London Underground commuters will normally spend over ten minutes on the train. This gives a large window of time for bored passengers to interact with the poster.

The strapline ‘See The Full Picture’ is used to emphasise the point that there is more to the gallery than might be assumed. This is visualised through a cropped portrait with the full image can be downloaded through a bluetooth connection.

Additionally the download includes a gallery promotion and a map of where the portrait can be found providing incentives to visit the gallery.
