In 1980, the NRC adopted fire protection

regulations intended to prevent another

Browns Ferry fire, or worse.

In 2004, the NRC adopted alternate fire

protection regulations after discovering

many reactors did not comply with its

1980 regulations.

Today, Browns Ferry does not meet

either the 1980 or the 2004 fire

protection regulations adopted in

response to the Browns Ferry fire.

March 1985 until February 2007 – longest

nuclear plant outage ever
