AGENCY FISHGaruda Colours | Travel, Explore
Garuda Colours is the monthly in-flight magazine for Indonesia’s national flag-
carrier, and its Travel section showcases the best of this incredible archipelago, with the adventurous traveller in mind.
Since 2013 I have been a regular contributor to this exciting publication,
shooting editorial travel stories from such diverse and off-the-beaten-track
locations as central Borneo, Tanah Toraja in Sulawesi, Pulau Nias, east
Sumbawa and south Sumatra.
Working together with a number of renowned local and expatriate
writers, I was tasked with planning itineraries, researching locations and
ultimately, shooting to briefs that required eye-catching travel imagery.
Additionally, I have shot a series of editorial profile features for the Explore section,
showcasing talented chefs based in Bali.
SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST48 Hours Magazine | Travel
48 Hours Magazine is the South China Morning Post’s weekend lifestyle supplement that showcases a wide range of exciting activities from fashionable dining and nightlife to travel, music and entertainment. So far I have shot two main features including north Sumatra, and Borneo’s wild orangutans.
INDO MULTIMEDIAHello Bali | To Dine For
Since 2009 I have been a regular contributor to Hello Bali’s To Dine For feature, showcasing the best and brightest restaurants in the region.
Each month, everything from the food and the chef to the decor and ambience is covered in a vibrant four-page article that requires a strong lead-in DPS, as well as intriguing detail shots to bring the copy to life.
INDO MULTIMEDIAHello Bali | Features
As well as my monthly To Dine For work, I have been tasked with a series of leading features
for Hello Bali including; Offshore (travel), In Focus (profiles) and Island Life (lifestyle).
I have produced travel features from locations such as Lembongan island and
Central Java, profiles of well-known artists, dancers and musicians, and lifestyle pieces
on indigenous black magic and local philanthropists such as the twelve page Unsung Heroes spread (pictured right).
INK PUBLISHINGJetstar Asia | Altitude / Jetstar Australia | Thirst Quencher / Tiger Tales | Weekender / Mandala | Departures
One of the largest publishers in travel media, INK has offices around the world, and specialises in inflight magazines for a selection of international airlines.
Since 2011, I have shot an assortment of features covering fashion, lifestyle, dining and travel for four different INK publications.
Each assignment required liaising with an assigned writer and working out a suitable schedule in order to produce consistent editorial photographs that would link with the copy, to achieve informative, eye-catching articles to appeal to a broad audience.
WHITE WHALE MEDIAI-Magazine | Cover Feature
I-Magazine is a young, edgy publication that explores and represents the new
wave of creative fashion, art, music and surf culture in Bali, reaching
out to the growing network of international active, creative individuals
making the island their home.
When renowned Sydney rock band Wolfmother visited Bali to play a secret
intimate gig at Deus ex Machina I was asked by the editors to cover
the event as a leading feature.
The article required a cover shot and strong lead-in, followed by a montage of shots to depict the band, crowd, venue
and overall mood of the occasion.
ASIA ROOMSTravel Community
AsiaRooms is a fast-growing hotel beds booking online portal that covers the majority of countries in Southeast Asia and beyond, providing the best
deals for independent and adventurous travellers throughout the region.
Last year I was commissioned by AsiaRooms management to produce a series of travel galleries to be featured
on their ‘Travel Community’ section, which provides inspiration and interaction
for AsiaRooms travellers. So far I have submitted two galleries, one on Bali
and the other (pictured) documenting the Balinese ‘Legong’ dance.
AsiaRooms targets a young, social-media savvy demographic, and consequently the galleries have
been widely shared across multiple platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
INDIES TRADER MARINE ADVENTURESSurfing Mentawai
Since 2012 I have been regularly employed by Indies Trader Marine Adventures management as onboard photographer to cover private surf charter trips to remote areas of the Indian Ocean. During the 2-4 week trips, I am tasked with providing a mix of imagery to document the experience for each guest - frequently, the photographs have gone on to appear in major surfing publications.
SARONG GROUPSarong
After successful periods with two of Sydney’s leading restaurants, Longrain
and Jimmy Liks, Will Meyrick set up the acclaimed Sarong restaurant in Bali in 2008, with the aim of serving
authentic Southeast Asian street food within a fine dining environment.
I was initally approached by Will and his team back in 2011 for a photo
assignment, and ever since have been contracted to shoot all food, interior
and chef’s profile image collateral for Sarong marketing, online content
and social media. Due to Sarong’s international brand placement, the
images have appeared in publications such as Gourmet Traveller, DestinAsian,
Esquire and Harpers Bazaar.
SARONG GROUPEastern & Oriental
After the runaway success of Sarong in Bali, the group expanded into Jakarta with E&O, pitched firmly at the burgeoning foodie scene in this buzzing city.
Like Sarong, the Pan-Asian inspired, colonial style E&O has a strong brand identity, which has been important for the management to maintain.
Although I was based in Bali during E&O’s inception, I was regularly flown over to Jakarta for numerous shoots to amass a solid image bank to be used for marketing purposes across all media lines.
SARONG GROUPMamasan
Back in Bali, Mamasan has proven to be the Sarong Group’s most popular and
adaptable brand, with new branches now in Malaysia and Hong Kong mirroring the phenomenal success of the Bali location.
Like Sarong and E&O, I have been the primary photographer for
Mamasan since its opening in 2011, providing all image collateral.
SARONG GROUPSarong Inspirations
The brief from Sarong Group was to shoot striking food imagery for a 320 page hardcover recipe book titled Inspirations, to tie together chef Will Meyrick’s culinary travels throughout Southeast Asia, and also provide a practical cookery book for the recipies. Working closely with Will, his kitchen team and two specialist food stylists, I shot the majority of the 80 plus recipes contained within the book, which has now had three print runs and is also available on the iTunes store.
AYANA GROUPAh Yat Abalone Seafood
I was asked by the AYANA Hotel Group management to shoot a series of images to help with the rebranding of their signature F&B outlet Ah Yat restaurant for billboard, print and digital media channels.
The brief required a new, more contemporary approach to the food images, which were much more styled in order to appeal to a taste-conscious audience.
PERSONAL PROJECTSPortraits
In between comissions I always aim to shoot as much as possible for my
own enjoyment, particularly portraiture as this is the style of photography that
I find most enjoyable and satisfying. Consequently I feel that portraits is one of the strongest aspects of my photography.
