Cyber security is increasingly in the news and is quickly becoming a top concern for individuals and businesses. But the jargon and concepts can be unfamiliar, unclear or even downright confusing. We have compiled the ABC’s of Cyber Security to provide you a glossary of common terms and an overview of key concepts. 35 11:15 KEYNOTE: State of the Cyber World - A Look at the Dark Side of the Digital Era

Ben Johnson Carbon Black

The Internet has ushered in an unprecedented era of innovation, knowledge sharing, economic opportunity and social empowerment. But there is a dark side to this progress. The same technology has also empowered a new generation of criminal and new forms of crime. Today, individuals, companies and entire national economies face the Herculean task of securing digital assets against increasingly sophisticated, highly-organized and well-funded adversaries. This session explores the structure of online criminal syndicates, the mindset of the individuals behind them and the arsenal of tools and techniques they use to wreak havoc and extort monies from victims of all sizes.

20 11:50 Hard Facts on Soft Targets - Cyber Crime in the Caribbean and Belize

Sean Fouche (CARICOM IMPACS); Leslie Lee Fook (SMBTT)

Individuals, small-business, schools, government agencies and those tasked with national planning can mistakenly think they are too small or too inconsequential to be of interest to cyber criminals. Surely hackers are only interested in ‘big-ticket’ targets like banks or large retailers in developed countries, right? No. Wrong! This session debunks that notion by presenting hard facts on how and why cyber criminals deliberately go after soft targets, here in Belize and across the Caribbean.

20 12:10 PANEL: Cyber Siege - What You Need To Know About Cyber Security in Belize

Robert Price (CITO); Edward Young (BAICTP); Stephen Lee (CaribNOG)
