Issues of ImminencyDr. Stallard presents an argument for imminency that puts little to no weight upon the Matthew 24 passage that many pre-tribulationalists hang their hat upon. This is good because Matthew 24 is a Tribulational passage urging tribulational believers (more specifically Jewish believers) to be ready for their coming king.

I would suggest that John 14 also makes a case for an imminent return with the wedding language employed.

The current cultural landscape also makes for a compelling argument for imminency

QuestionWas the rapture imminent at the time of Paul? Are Believers called to wrath?1 Thessalonians 1:10 (NKJV) 10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. 1 Thessalonians 2:19 (NKJV) 19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11 (NKJV) 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. 11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing. Revelation 6:16-17The Time of the Tribulation is known as the day of Gods wrath, something we have not been appointed to as believers! Daniel 7

v. 24-literally 70 7s which refers in this case to years not days. If it were days one would expect it to be followed by day and 490 days would not be enough time to complete all of these events either.

At the end of the 490 years God will finish the transgression of Israel. The verb to finish (kl) means to bring something to an end. Israels sin of disobedience will be brought to an end at Christs second coming when she repents and turns to Him as her Messiah and Savior. Then she will be restored to the land and blessed, in answer to Daniels prayer.6 things will be accomplished with 3 of them being discipline for sin and 3 being Kingdom related:1)Finish transgressionEnd of sinsAtone (reconciliation) kapar for iniquityBring everlasting righteousnessSeal up vision and prophecyAnnoint the Most Holy One

v. 25A Command will be given to have the wall restored: This is the fourth of four decrees by Persian Kings to rebuild Jerusalem. The fourth finally allowed for the wall to be rebuilt and this took place on March 5, 444 BC at the command of Artaxerxes Longimus recorded in Nehemiah 2:1-8. This starts the clock ticking!

v. 257 weeks + 62 weeks until the Messiah is cut offfirst 7s=49 years and may refer to the total time it took to rebuild the wall and secure Jerusalem. It took just 52 days to build the wall, but certainly more had to be done to complete that rebuilding of Jerusalem

62 weeks=time before coming of the Messiah

March 5, 444 BC until March 30th, AD 33 when Christ enters Jerusalem

v. 26--the Messiah is presented and then at the cross He is cut off. The church then fills the gap between the 69th and 70th week.

v. 27The 70th week is the tribulation period spoken of in Matthew 24 and Revelation 6 and following.

Amillenarians teach that Christs First Advent ministry was in the 70th seven, that there was no interval between the 69th and 70th sevens, and that the six actions predicted in Daniel 9:24 are being fulfilled today in the church. This view, however, (a) ignores the fact that verse 26 says after the 62 sevens, not in the 70th seven, (b) overlooks the fact that Christs ministry on earth was three and one-half years in length, not seven, and (c) ignores the fact that Gods six actions pertain to Daniels people (Israel) and His Holy City (Jerusalem), not the church.

v. 27 during this time the anti-Christ will confirm a covenant with Israel promising peace and allowing for sacrifices to resume in Jerusalem. In the middle of this 7 year period he will break the covenant and offer profain offerings in the temple.

This ruler will end sacrifice and offering. This expression refers to the entire Levitical system, which suggests that Israel will have restored that system in the first half of the 70th seven. After this ruler gains worldwide political power, he will assume power in the religious realm as well and will cause the world to worship him (2 Thes. 2:4; Rev. 13:8). To receive such worship, he will terminate all organized religions. Posing as the worlds rightful king and god and as Israels prince of peace, he will then turn against Israel and become her destroyer and defiler. Also Matthew 24:15

Jesus, The Coming King, Will Keep His PromisesIsaiah 9:6, 7; Revelation 19:11-20:6To Abraham (Genesis 12)To David (2 Samuel 7:5-16; Isaiah 9:6, 7; 11:1-3)To Israel (Jeremiah 30:1-11)To All Believers (Acts 1:9-11)

Millennium Passages for studyRevelation 20Satan is bound (unlike our current age where he roams about like a roaring lion-1 Peter 5:8)Christ rules along with other previous resurrected believers (Luke 22:29-30, 1 Corinthians 6:2, also consider Dan. 7:22). Also the believing dead of the tribulation are resurrected to rule with Him! This is not the first as in the first and only resurrection, but it is the first as in before. 1 Cor. 15:23 (Jesus), 1 Thess. 4:13-18 (Church Age Believers), Rev. 11:3, 11 (2 Witnesses), Rev. 20:5 (Tribulation Maryrs), Daniel 12:1-2 (OT Saints)Allussions to MillenniumEphesians 1:10Romans 8:18-23

John stated that what he was seeing is the first resurrection. Posttribulationists refer to this as proof that the church will not be raptured before the Tribulation and that no resurrection has taken place prior to this point in fulfillment of Gods prophetic program. It should be obvious, however, that in no sense could this be the number-one resurrection chronologically because historically Christ was the first to rise from the dead with a transformed, resurrected body. There was also the resurrection of many (Matt. 27:52-53) which took place when Christ died. In what sense then can this resurrection in Revelation 20:5 be first? As the context which follows indicates, the first resurrection (vv. 5-6) contrasts with the last resurrection (vv. 12-13), which is followed by the second death (vv. 6, 14). It is first in the sense of before. All the righteous, regardless of when they are raised, take part in the resurrection which is first or before the final resurrection (of the wicked dead) at the end of the Millennium. This supports the conclusion that the resurrection of the righteous is by stages. Christ was the Firstfruits (1 Cor. 15:23), which was preceded by the token resurrection of a number of saints (Matt. 27:52-53). Then will occur the Rapture of the church, which will include the resurrection of dead church saints and the translation of living church saints (1 Thes. 4:13-18). The resurrection of the two witnesses will occur in the Great Tribulation (Rev. 11:3, 11). Then the resurrection of the martyred dead of the Great Tribulation will occur soon after Christ returns to earth (20:4-5). To these may be added the resurrection of Old Testament saints which apparently will also occur at this time, though it is not mentioned in this text (cf. Isa. 26:19-21; Ezek. 37:12-14; Dan. 12:2-3).

34Extra InformationThis is Free! The battle described in Revelation 20:7ff is not the same battle referred to in Ezekiel 38-39.

The question has been raised as to whether this war is the same one discussed in Ezekiel 38-39, where Gog and Magog are also mentioned (Ezek. 38:2). These are two different battles, for in the war of Ezekiel 38-39 the armies come primarily from the north and involve only a few nations of the earth. But the battle in Revelation 20:7-9 will involve all nations, so armies will come from all directions.Furthermore nothing in the context of Ezekiel 38-39 is similar to the battle in Revelation, as there is no mention of Satan or of millennial conditions. In Revelation 20:7 the context clearly places the battle at the end of the Millennium, whereas the Ezekiel battle takes place in connection with end-time events.
