The rationale for today’s leadership training is to ensure

that the students working on this campus as leaders are

well equipped and trained to represent their organizations.

We hope that this day will provide you with the tools

necessary to lead your organizations in a direction of

growth and engagement.

The goals for today are to:

• Prepare you for your role as a student leader

• Introduce you to relevant staff members of this campus

• Allow you to network with other student leaders

Page 6: Day Long Program Planning

• Communication is a process of reaching an

understanding among all parties whilst exchanging

information as well as sharing and creating ideas

• Constructive communication allows individuals to

integrate a variety of community norms within classes,

workplaces, and other group settings

• The Transactional Model (Health &Bryant,2000) states

that active thinking, speaking, nonverbal, paraphrasing

and listening skills are valued

• Effective time management is needed to lead positive

personal and professional lives

• To effectively manage you time: control it

• The use of effective time management skills will give way

to a stellar academic performance and low stress

• Self-care is of the utmost importance

• Maslow (1943) describes individuals as having peak

experiences when they understand their potential and

how they can become all they can be. This is also known

as self-actualization!

• Leadership is described as the ability to lead, the ability

to guide, direct, or influence others

• These skills are essential to your success as a student

and future professional.

• Be authentic and intentional!

Only three things happen naturally

in organizations: friction, confusion,

and underperformance. Everything

else requires leadership.

the entire group must start over.

• The rafts must be in contact with a person
