Days of Periodontology in Dolní Morava 

On the 11th and 12th of April 2014, the congress of the Czech Society of Periodontology took place; it was a  two‐day meeting of dentists and professionals  in beautiful environs of the mountain massif of Kralický Sneznik, in hotel Vista. 

 

 

Our key speaker from Israel, prof. Moshe Goldstein opened the program  with his key presentation on the topic of „Dental implants in potentionally problem areas; surgical options to achieve optimum results“.  

 

 

 

 The message was expressed by the sentence: „Implants  should replace the missing teeth not the existing, still functional teeth.“ 

Descriptions of individual clinical cases, demonstrative photos and videos, exactly described augmentation procedures or surgical techniques including the prosthetic phase follow‐ups, and mainly considerations on when and how to introduce an implant presented the main contributions and benefits to the audience. The challenge whether to use an implant or save the tooth resulted in : Save the tooth when and where possible. Prof. Moshe Goldstein appreciates  the value of natural teeth very much. The large audience aplaus  proved the presention was very much topical. 

 

 

The following presentation called „The periodontal and implant related case report“  given by Czecho‐Slovak team of J. Ivančo, M. Ciboch and M. Kysel, showed that not all implantology related situations are unambiguous despite careful clinical and radiological examinations even though they might have been seen so at a first glance. 

Next contribution to the agenda of the first day  was presented by a Slovak team of M. Kysel and J. Ivančo on Gow‐Gates technique of n.alveolaris inferior anaesthesia  showing there are other anaesthetic techniques than the ones used as standard. 

Through the presentation Use of oral antiseptic agents in Periodontogy  given by H. Poskerova from Brno the audience got acquainted with principles of use of these agents in oral cavity.  

 

 

 

 Agenda of the first day closed with presentations authored by P. Augustin from Brno on the topic of Aesthetic modification of the frontal area through periodontal and surgical methods, and by T. Siebert who presented on „The Importance of Periodontology in dental aesthetics“. 

 

 

 

The second day started as usual , typically for the Days of Perio, with a presentation from the field of general medicine, R. Pudil from Hradec Králové informed the audience on „What cardiology can or cannot do“. In a gripping manner the author presented a list of options of 

non‐invasive cardiology and he definitely managed to catch the attention of people who do not come from the cardiology field.  

The following speakers chose topics from the sphere of Periodontology, i.e. Z. Broukal:          „ What do the dental indices tell us and what is their weight in Periodontogy?“ or R. Slezák who covered the issue of „Possibilities of evaluating the periodontal treatment success“ which presents a serious clinical problem. Presentation was interesting, complementing the previous one. The speaker addressed the errors in probing and force exercised, and talked also about the problem of measuring the gingival recess size. 

J. Dušková continued with her paper on: „Relation between periodontal and other diseases“ and was followed by I. Dřízhal presenting: „Oral cavity and diabetes mellitus“ paper, describing indications inside the oral cavity and stressed the necessity of cooperation between specialists/professional from both areas, i.e. diabetes and Periodontology. 

 

 

 

Two final presentations closed the second day; they were presented by Z. Broukal: „What is the situation of prevention in Stomatology in the Czech republic“ and J. Vokurka discussed Xerostomy. 

 

 

In the end of the first day there was also a plenary session of the Czech Society for Periodontogy that discussed the possibility to organize the Europerio in Prague in 2021, and debated new forms of further training of graduates. Information on EFP´s discussions to introduce special periodontology certification was disseminated. These discussons are held at the level of the EC and EP in Brusseles. More than 2/5 of EFP members have been awarded the special certification which provides a basis for the introduction of it to the rest of the EU member states that do not have the specialization in periodontology. The plenary session also received information on the financial situation of the society, on the status of the ČPS web site, coming elections to its bodies etc.  

Days of Perio in Dolní Morava confirmed these meetings not only have high level regarding expertise and social contacts, but also  all the dentists not only periodontal specialists show high interest in the conference.
