Food Backpacks are coming back! We are again participating in providing weekend backpacks of food for students at Pence Middle School. This year it will be during November and Decem-ber. This has been a tremendous success the past three years with the wonderful support of our DUMC congregation. Monetary donations can be made by noting “food backpacks” in the sub-ject line of a check and placed in the offering plate. Food donations will be collected beginning in October with collection boxes located in the Coffee Social area. Menus will be included in

our October Sunday bulletins and the October newsletter. Please remember single-serving sizes only as we are not able to divide any large boxes of cereal, cookies, etc. into individual servings. We will again need shoppers and packers as well! Thank you in advance for your willingness to support this vital community mission to food-insecure children in our own backyard. More info coming soon! Any questions, please con-tact Stacie Jackson at 540-560-5300 or Katrina Eberly at 540-421-0806.

Summer Round-up Wow! Even though the summer is supposed to be for rest and relaxation, it sure was busy! Along with family trips and vacations, the Dayton UMC youth managed to serve and share fellowship several times. The highlight of the summer was our mission trip to Copperhill, TN in July. Eight youth members worked side-by-side in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains, battling heat, humidity and even hornets, but managed to tear down and reconstruct a new deck for Marshall. Marshall had experienced a fall shortly after his battle with cancer in the last year and had no means of safely exiting his home. The next phase was a 30-foot ramp for his deck. The youth also enjoyed a wet and wild August participating in the Dayton Muddler as well as a back-to-school pool party and waterslide with the Bridgewater UMC Youth. Even though we had the coolest temperatures yet this summer the kids were not phased. If you didn’t make it to either you missed out on some great laughs and fellowship! We will be planning our upcoming fall sched-ule which will include many opportunities for our youth to celebrate God through service, fun & fellowship.

If you wish to take advantage of their services, you will need to get a letter from our Administrative Assistant that you are a part of Dayton United Methodist.

In early August, Dayton UMC was approved to be on the membership list of Park View Federal Credit Union which has a location in Dayton. Now any person affiliated with Dayton UMC (member, employee or volunteer) can use Park View’s services.
