Forget once in a lifetime: last year, thousands of couples tied the knot on 12.12.12, a once in a century wedding date.

According to a survey by David’s Bridal, approximately 7,500 brides tied the knot on December 12, 2012. To put things in perspective, that’s a 1,446 percent in-crease from last year’s special 12.12.11.

The date is popular across the globe. French news agency the Agence France Presse reports that in Hong Kong nearly four times as many couples married on 12.12.12, as compared to last year.

Among those thousands of couples that tied the knot in Manitoba on December 12, for one special couple this wasn’t the first unique and special date they’ve had. As if getting engaged on New Year's Eve wasn't enough of a milestone, Krisztina Sebesi and Rex Lu made the choice of a once-in-a-century wedding date. "We looked through the calendar and we were like, “Oh, my god! 12-12-12,”Sebesi recalled. "It's an iconic date. It's the last of our lifetime for sure. And we're like, “Let's do it. Let's do that day.” Beyond the triple-12s in their wedding date, Sebesi, 34, and Lu, 26, have made a point of incorporating the numeral into other facets of their big day. Their thank you cards feature palm trees with 12 coconuts. The buffet featured a dozen different courses. And 12 little starfish adorning the cake. "It represents who we are, and we are unique," Sebesi said.

This special couple won’t be forgetting their wedding date anytime soon.

On Friday, April 29, 2011 Kate and William got married in Westminster Abbey in England. The Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress, designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, will go on display at Buckingham Palace during the annual Summer Opening (23 July - 3 October 2011). The Duchess chose British brand Alex-ander McQueen for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing. Her Royal Highness worked closely with Sarah Burton in formulating the design of her dress.

The dress is made from ivory and white satin-gazar (stiffened organza). The shape of the skirt, with arches and pleats, echoes an opening flower, and the ivory satin bodice, which is narrowed at the waist and padded at the hips, draws on the Victorian tradition of corsetry. The back of the dress is finished with 58 buttons fastened by Rouleau loops. The underskirt is made of silk tulle trimmed with Cluny lace. The train measures 2.7 metres.

The Duchess’s wedding dress reflects the work of skilled craftsmen and women from across the United Kingdom. The lace appliqué for the bodice and skirt was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework, founded in 1872. Individual flowers were hand-cut from lace and hand-engineered on to ivory silk-tulle to create a design that in-corporates the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock. Each lace motif, some as small as a 5-pence piece, was applied with minute stitches every two to three millimetres.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress and the royal wedding cake will be on dis-play as part of the Summer Opening of Buckingham Palace, which also includes the special exhibition Royal Fabergé.

I think you should not get married in High school. There are lots of different reasons why you should not. The first and most important reason is that you need to graduate. If you don’t gradate then it will be really hard to find work for your future. It might not sound that bad getting married in high school but you have to work so you have money for yourself and your family. The re-sponsibility is big, you have to make sure there is enough food and enough money to pay all the bills. What if your wife gets pregnant? You have to stay up nights and take care of your baby. Your wife can’t go to school anymore. Where are you going to live, in your parent’s basement or in an apartment? You still have to pay rent. Will you be able to handle a full time job after school? When you are working full time after school you will have no time to do homework. You won’t get enough sleep and can’t concentrate in school. You are still young and can enjoy the freedom of being a teenager. You can feel independ-ent and in charge. Overall, my opinion is you should not get married in High school.

Page 18

Page 19: Dazzling Brides

There are so many different opinions about what

color wedding dress is right for your wedding.

There’s always an argument about should the dress

be white or can it be any other colour. I think, that

decision is to be made by the groom and bride

themselves. Personally, I believe that the wedding

dress should be  a shade of white  (including ivory).

White means purity, innocence, and happiness.

White is worn by babies when they are bap zed in‐

to the Chris an faith. People also o en think of angels being clothed in white, since

it’s the closest to pure light they can think of. White can symbolize “purity of heart”

and the innocence of childhood for young brides as they transi on into adulthood and

independence. Yet, white can also represent virginal purity. So why would a bride not

want to wear such a beau ful dress which means so many beau ful things. There is an

old poem about how the color of your wedding

dress will influence your future: “Married in

white, you will have chosen all right. Married in

grey, you will go far away. Married in black, you

will wish yourself back. Married in red, you’ll

wish yourself dead. Married in blue, you will al‐

ways be true. Married in pearl, you’ll live in a

whirl. Married in green, ashamed to be seen.

Married in yellow, ashamed of the fellow. Married in brown, you’ll live out of town.

Married in pink, your spirits will sink.”  Now, this may not be en rely true but it makes

a good point. Where else do you get to wear a white dress? Since it’s such a special

occasion I think the dress just makes it even more special and glamorous.

Dear Jojo,

I’m having a really hard time trying to decide how to choose the right dress for me. I don’t even know how to start. My wedding is in 2 months, I’m really scared I won’t find my dream dress in time. Please help!!

-Desperate bride-to-be Sara

Dear Desperate bride-to-be Sara,

Choosing the right dress is not an easy choice to make. First of all, relax and get yourself together. It’s even more difficult to make a choice when you are stressed and under pressure. Once you are ready, follow these 4 steps:

1.Do your research: you should always have a bit of knowledge about dresses be-fore you even set foot into a bridal shop. Decide if you like lots of ruffles, flowers or plain. All these different features make the dress unique.

2.Decide on a silhouette: know which type of gown will flatter your figure the best. Choose between the a line/princess, empire, column/sheath, ball gown or the mermaid style.

3. Consider the circumstances: a wide variety of factors can affect what makes a particular dress appropriate for the occasion. Are you going to be dancing with the dress? What kind of transportation are you going to have? And so on, think of all the things you are going to be doing while wearing the dress.

4. Decide on a budget: Decide on a general range of how much you plan to spend on that dress. You can always bend it a little bit later on but this will help you to limit down the dresses.

Keep searching and I am certain that you are going to find that perfect dress which will make you the absolute center of attention on your wedding day!

Dear Isi,

I still have time till my wedding day but I am scared that I won’t find my dream dress. My fiancé has a different taste in wedding styles. Should I choose a dress that is my taste or his taste? And how do I find my perfect dress?

Scared Hadassa

Dear Scared Hadassa,

I am glad that I can help you, with your problem. This is a really good question. The first thing that you should know is that it is your wed-ding and you should feel comfortable in your dress. The first step is you go online with your fiancé and look for a weeding dress. If you find a dress that is your style and you really like it, you email the store and ask if they have that dress in stock or if they still have to sew it. If your fiancé does not like the dress at all you should maybe look for a different one. It should definitely be your taste and his taste because it’s his weeding too. If you can’t find a dress online you should go to bridal shops with your fiancé and check out the dress there. If you don’t find a dress right away, don’t give up there are so many dresses you are sure going to find your dream dress.

Children in your Wedding Ceremony Every couple wants their wedding ceremony to run smoothly, from the dress rehearsal to their vows, but one as-pect of the wedding will always remain unpredictable…children! Many couples have relatives and friends with children who are cute as a button, or maybe even children of their own. Typically these children become flower girls and ring bearers which make a charming addition to any wed-ding party. However, their adorable ways can turn into antics fast without proper planning. If you are planning on having children in your bridal party, the following are a few tips to make sure that your pint-size guests meet

your expectations. A child loves to be the center of attention but today is not the day. In order to make them feel special take a few moments to show your ap-preciation. Before the ceremony, take a few pictures with them, tell them how cute they look, and give them a special gift just as you would the rest of your wedding party. Prevent children from being uncomfortable by providing a snack before and after the wedding ceremony. Choose snacks that will not make a

mess nor stain clothing; crackers, string-cheese, and sugar cookies, and small bottles of water, are a good choice. Package treats in coordinating bags, embellished with ribbons and personalized name tags. Prepare treats for more than just your flower girl and ring bearer; other young children (if invited) will also become antsy sitting through the ceremony. Designate a parent or older child to pass out the treat bags. Even though the flower girl and ring bearer are part of the bridal party, they may not be the most patient when standing during the vow exchange. Let them sit in the front row during the ceremony. Make sure that their par-ent or grandparent can motion them to take a seat beside them. Then let them rejoin the party during the pro-cessional. Also make sure that the child’s parent or another family member is prepared to scoop up the child if a tantrum breaks out. It is not the most ideal situation but knowing that someone is prepared well give you peace of mind. After the ceremony can be the most important time to give the children notice. This is a time of celebration when all the attention turns to the bride and groom. Children can sometimes become confused on what to do next. Give them a hug, thank them, and let them know that you will see them later if you have decided that children will be allowed at your reception. If so, save them a dance! Hopefully these tips help you start brainstorming on what to expect and how to be prepared for your younger wedding party guests. For more ideas visit TodaysBride.com. The accessories you just can’t forget

While the bridal gown is certainly the star attraction of your wedding ensemble, the accessories will play a supporting role.

The first place to start is at the top. Veils are very commonplace, but vary in styles from ultra formal blushers (veils that cover your face and are lifted at a certain point in the service) to classic lace man-

tillas. Not surprisingly, veils also range in length. Although there are no set-in-stone rules, certain veils do seem to match certain gowns. A very formal wedding gown – say with a chapel or cathedral length

train – will best be set off by a full-length veil, usually extending one foot past the train. A standard length veil, to the elbow or fingertip, complements every gown silhouette. Shorter and/or

less formal dresses, on the other hand, nearly beg for a stunning birdcage veil. A tasteful tiara – one that is simple and lightweight – is a popular alternative to a veil. A few other

“hair jewellery” ideas to consider include the following: a fabric headband (lace is especially popular!), that treasured family brooch, or even flowers that

match your bridal bouquet. Gloves are optional depending on the degree of formality & the style of your wedding gown. A wide variety of glove lengths & materials are now availa-ble. It’s important, however, to make sure that the glove is open for the ring finger during the ceremony. Your engagement ring can be worn under the

glove on the right hand & transferred afterward. Your jewellery is one of the next things you’ll want to consider – and believe it or not, there are a lot of factors to weigh before making your selection. First, you’ll want to figure out what type of metal

looks best with the shade of your gown. Gold pieces tend to clash with a white gown, so in that case, you’d want to stick with pearls or platinum. An ivory gown, however, looks stunning with gold jew-

ellery that will highlight the creamy tint of the fabric. Next, you’ll need to take your gown’s neckline into account. V-neck gowns, for example, typically look best with a simple pendant on a thin chain. Single- or double-stranded pearls with matching or diamond drop earrings can also make for a classic touch. For the ever-popular sweetheart and strap-less gowns, it might be best to skip the necklace altogether and just focus on a gorgeous pair of chan-

delier earrings! Whereas most brides want their jewellery to be as elegant as possible, shoes should fall in that gray area between fashion and function. Remember that you will be standing on your feet for most of the affair. The last thing you want to have to deal with is pain that limits

your mobility and enjoyment. Consider two pairs of shoes – one formal pair for the ceremony and arrival at the re-ception, then another comfortable & more casual pair for the rest of the night. Before

making your final shoe selection, be sure to try on your wedding dress with your shoes to make sure they actually match as perfectly as they do in your mind.

Picking out accessories for your wedding should definitely not be a stressful task – you’ll have plenty of time to shop around and peek at all the different styles and color options. While

looking for your own accessories, you might want to keep your bridesmaids’ accessories in mind as well. Above all else, enjoy yourself!

Happy accessory hunting!

Creating an effective skin care routine Your wedding day will see you be the center of attention for the entire day. You’ll be getting up close and personal with not only your guests, but a camera lens as well. To look great all day - and for years to come listen to the experts. They recommend a minimum six months of stress-relief, proper nutrition, and added water-drinking. Since much of your beauty condition on your wedding day is completely in your own hands, there are a few things you’ll need to do before the wedding to ensure your skin is in shape.

The first and most important step towards healthy skin is a good cleansing program. You should be using a multi-step system including:

~ a good cleanser appropriate for your skin-type in the mornings

~ make-up remover and cleanser at night

~ daily moisturizer

~ an exfoliant once to several times a week

Also try keeping your hands away from your face - dirt and oils can contribute to blemishes and other skin problems.

If you can afford it, this is a great time to consult a professional dermatologist. Tell them your wedding date, and your skin-care goals. They may recommend treatments such as glycolic peels or regular fa-cials that will help you have picture-perfect skin. Prescription medicine may also be helpful.

Examine how much water you drink daily. Drinking eight to 10 glasses daily will help clear up blemish-es and make your skin more luminous. While you're increasing your water consumption, it's a great time to be decreasing your caffeine in-take. Passing on that morning trip to Starbucks may seem like a daunting task, but not only will less caffeine help your skin, it will also help you feel less stressed out!

You should also be cautious if using tanning beds. Many brides make the mistake of tanning and look-ing too dark, red or freckled. If you must get color, try a self-tanning treatment applied by a skin care professional. It's safer and more natural looking without the risk of sunburn or freckles.

Finally - and most importantly - get some sleep. Your body requires a minimum of eight hours of rest to rebuild and repair itself. In that time, it sheds dead skin cells, flushes toxins and excess water, and regulates its natural moisture levels (among other things). Deprive yourself of sleep, and expect to see dull skin, dark circles, and puffiness when you wake up in the morning.

Let's face it -- most of us don't have perfect complexions, and with the anxiousness sur-rounding a wedding, looking your best can be a challenge. But with a little extra care and some advanced planning, however, you can easily achieve a radiant, flawless face for your wedding day!

Make note of your day-to-day beauty dilemmas, such as mascara on your bottom lashes tends to give you dark circles or lip liner makes your lips dry, and share these concerns with your makeup artist. And don't be afraid to try something new -- as long as you test-drive the look before the wedding. You may find colors or combinations you are afraid of actu-ally look great on you!

Whether you're going for a natural look or for something more lavish, chances are you'll definitely want to put your best face forward on your wedding day. Your hair, makeup and skin have to look picture perfect -- and with a little practice and planning the reward for all your exhaustive work is a smooth event that eve-ryone — especially you — can enjoy.

Choosing your Wedding Cake  One of the most important guests at your wedding is covered in sugar. No ‐ not the face of your cousin's son, your wedding cake!  A recep on is not complete without a few layers of baked goodness. And while your first worry may be the taste, this is actually the easy part. Call your local cake shops and schedule a  me to sample bites. You'll be surprised how many op ons you'll have, and by the number of combina ons you'll be able to pull off to keep all of your guests happy.  Once your taste buds are indulged in the flavours, it is now  me to consider design. Whether your style is tradi onal, modern, or outside the box, all eyes will be on your wedding cake. Make sure it stands out in the crowd! One way to do this is to get crea ve. Add a pop of color on a tradi onal white on

white wedding cake. Include ribbon or a three dimensional ele‐ment such as fondant flowers, real flowers, or candy pearls. An‐other way to be crea ve on a tradi onal or modern cake is to use icing techniques to write hidden messages within the design such as a favourite quote or your new name together.  Another great trend is cupcakes. Cute li le single servings dis‐played in any fashion imaginable. Cupcakes can display the same elements of a tradi onal wedding cake but have more opportuni‐es. Fill a display with an arrangement of flavours, fillings, de‐

signs, decora ons, and wrappers. These small treats can pack a big punch. Not to men on there is no need for a fork! Cupcakes can also complement a wedding cake which would be the best of both worlds.  Start looking for great ideas and inspira on online at TodaysBride.com.  By Kayla Sweitzer ‐ Today's Bride Magazine and Shows
