TRANSCRIPT

The story of D.B. Cooper is the story of a man who, to some, is a hero and to others is a criminal. Either way, he is an unknown. Cooper will forever be known as an smoothly dressed stranger who hijacked a Boeing 727, made off with $200,000 of ransom money with-out hurting a single person, and jumped into the cold and rainy night somewhere above southwest Washington state. It is a saga full of information and misinfor-mation, all of which has been gathered in light of the lack of clues left behind by Cooper. It is also a case which has become an obsession for a small few, but conatins the sort of intrigue that is worth explaining to the person who has never heard the story. The point of this project is to present the facts, theories, and questions to the uninitiated reader, no matter the age or gender, and to provide a guide of sorts for that person to begin to inves-tigate the case in their own fun and not too serious manner. It is a presentation of a portion of the case specifically for en-tertainment, and not to prove any of the theories or opinions presented, with the desired effect of this project being a step into an intriguing mystery while “tuning

out” of the real world, if only for a mo-ment. It is a fun distraction at best. The delivery mode of this piece, being an introductory packet for the new enthusiast, is made up of one map, one poster of information pertinent to the case, and a packet of “airline tickets” which organize and briefly introduce the viewer to the nine most interesting suspects in the case. All of the pieces are hand drawn, with the exception of the map’s cover photo, to enhance the feel-ing of a personal obsession with the case. The pieces are purposely made to appear unearthed, gathered, “dug-up”, forty years old, and maybe colored with ciga-rette smoke. If the you are new to the case of Dan “DB” Cooper, grab a cup of cof-fee, open the map and use these pieces as your launching pad into a mystery. Maybe that quiet neighbor who paid cash for his house in the seventies is hid-ing something? Find out.
