Lap Winding

The difference among the winding type arise from the way the

coil ends are connected.

A lap winding may have one or more turns of anapproximately trapezoidal shape, with the two ends close to

each other so that they can be connected to adjacent

commutator segments.

Wave Winding

The wave winding has the same basic trapezoidal appearance

in the coil body as the lap winding, but the coil ends are

spread apart.

The coil ends are connected to the commutator segments that

are one less or one more segment than the angular distance

 between two lie polarity field poles.
