Dragonlance The RPG Dungeons & Dragons inspired this popular se-

ries. Authors Tracy Hickman and Margaret wrote the sig-

nature books, set in the world of Krynn, and establishing

what became a shared universe with Dragons, Death

Knights, Kender, told over the course of five ages. Begin

with Dragons of Autumn Twilight.

Brooks, Terry.

The Shannara series. This long running, bestselling series begins with a

quest for a sword that will help defeat the Warlock

Lord threatening the world.

Start with The Sword of Shannara.

Eddings, David.

The Belgariad and Mallorean quintets. Newbies to fantasy fiction may want to start with this

accessible series with the classic tale of an orphaned

boy, a chosen one, who will rise to defeat a great evil.

The first book is Pawn of Prophecy.

Jordan, Robert.

The Wheel of Time series. This mammoth series is nearly complete, albeit post-

humously. Discover one of the greatest sagas set in a

traditional, fully-realized fantasy realm.

Pratchett, Terry.

The Discworld series. This satirical fantasy series lampoons familiar themes of our real

world with a rotating cast of characters whose adventures are

zany and filled with mirth. The books need not be read in order,

although it’s better to read some titles, like Going Postal before

Making Money and The Color of Magic before The Light Fantas-

tic. Though in the spirit of the books, just start anywhere.
