DCs dialogue with Sarpanchs through e-Rathri Chaupals
To encourage Sarpanchs and Mukhias to undertake cleaning and plantation works as a part
of the ongoing, nationwide Gandagi Mukt Bharat (GMB), District Collectors across the
country organised e-Rathri Chaupals with village heads on August 8, 2020.
In the runup to Independence Day 2020, the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation
(DDWS) has organised a week-long GMB with a variety of activities planned for every day of
the week. It began with the launch of the Rashtriya Swachhata Kendra - a high-tech
edutainment centre that captures the journey of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Later that evening, the District Collectors through e-Rathri Chaupals moblised communities
at District, Block and village level to participate in Single Use Plastic (SUP) collection and
segregation, wall painting with key swachhata messages, shramdaan and tree plantation,
online painting and essay competition for students, as well as sanitation drives during the
week, until August 15th.
In Tawang District of Arunachal Pradesh, the Deputy Commissioner sought local
participation for realising ‘Gandagi Mukt Bharat.’ Addressing Gaon Burahs and village
communities through live web cast, the DC appealed to the people to maintain cleanliness
in all aspects. He asked them to collect Single Use Plastic items and hand over to the PHED,
carry out plantation drives for which saplings will be provided by the Forest and PHE
Departments and conduct essay competitions and IEC activities to generate awareness.
