Live streaming will continue to be available from SSJ. Additionally, those who are not admitted to the SSJ Masses, because the limit has been met, can remain in their cars and tune to FM frequency 96.3 for the entire audio of the Mass. Communion will be distributed outside to those who “attend” Mass from their cars. Times reflect the necessary space needed for the “sanitizing” of pews and door entrances. Note: Masses at SSJ will be live-streamed and repeated throughout the day.

FROM FR. GRECCO “The infinite distance between God and man is overcome. God has not only bent down…he has truly ‘come down’, he has come into the world, he has become one of us, in order to draw all of us to himself. This child is truly Emmanuel – God-with-us. His kingdom truly stretches to the ends of the earth. He has truly built islands of peace in the world-encompassing breadth of the holy Eucharist. Wherever it is celebrated, an island of peace arises, of God’s own peace…So part of this night is simply joy at God’s closeness.” —Pope Benedict XVI

May we revel in God’s closeness to us! May we recognize the sadness in the distance that we place between Him and ourselves. May the real joy of Christmas and of being a believer in the Messiah encompass our holyday celebrations. May we be as “children”, rejoicing not in gifts or material things, but moved by the Holy Spirit, recognizing the Father who loves us and the Son who was born to save us. Blessings to you and yours for a most Holy Christmas Feast! —Father Grecco

Please do not attend a Mass in person if you are not registered.

There are two weeks until our new parish, St. Raphael the Archangel, officially begins. In today’s liturgy we hear about Mary, the mother of Jesus, and our mother, too. Mary was open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in giving birth to the promised Messiah. She was the human tabernacle for the divine Word that became flesh. Now she can intercede for us as we labor to create the new reality of our former parishes. We can be sure that Mary wants us to bring Christ to our world through the bonds of faith, hope, and love. May our new parish surge with joy and devotion to our Blessed Mother. “Hail Mary full of grace...pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death.”

    THE ORDER OF MASS

PENITENTIAL ACT I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and what I have failed to do, (all strike their breast as they say:) through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

    FIRST READING | 2 SAMUEL 7: 1-5, 8-12, 14, 16

ENTRANCE HYMN | O COME, O COME EMMANUEL

When King David was settled in his palace, and the LORD had given him rest from his enemies on every side, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God dwells in a tent!” Nathan answered the king, “Go, do whatever you have in mind, for the LORD is with you.” But that night the LORD spoke to Nathan and said: “Go, tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD: Should you build me a house to dwell in?’“ "'It was I who took you from the pasture and from the care of the flock to be commander of my people Israel. I have been with you wherever you went, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. And I will make you famous like the great ones of the earth.

I will fix a place for my people Israel; I will plant them so that they may dwell in their place without further disturbance. Neither shall the wicked continue to afflict them as they did of old, since the time I first appointed judges over my people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. The LORD also reveals to you that he will establish a house for you. And when your time comes and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your heir after you, sprung from your loins, and I will make his kingdom firm. I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before me; your throne shall stand firm forever.'”

    RESPONSORIAL PSALM 89: 2-5, 27, 29

    THE ORDER OF MASS

    1. I will sing forever of your mercies, O Lord; through all ages my mouth will proclaim your fidelity. I have declared your mercy is established forever; your fidelity stands firm as the heavens.

    2. “With my chosen one I have made a covenant; I have sworn to David my servant: I will establish your descendants forever, and set up your throne through all ages.”

    3. “He will call out to me, ‘You are my father, my God, the rock of my salvation.’ I will keep my faithful love for him always; with him my covenant shall last.”

Text: Psalm 89; The Revised Grail Psalms © 2010 GIA Publications, Inc Tune: Michel Guimont © 1994, GIA Publications, Inc.

Brothers and sisters: To him who can strengthen you, according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret for long ages but now manifested through the prophetic writings and, according to the command of the eternal

God, made known to all nations to bring about the obedience of faith, to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.

The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.” But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. “Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?” And the angel said to her in reply, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; for nothing will be impossible for God.” Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

  • St. Elizabeth Ann Seton | St. Margaret of Scotland | Ss. Simon and Jude 7

PROFESSION OF FAITH I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

(bow at the following bolder words) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

HOLIDAY GRATITUDE from the St. Vincent de Paul Society Thanks to your extremely generous contributions, we were able to provide 65 Thanksgiving meals and 15 pumpkin pies to needy families in our parish area. The meals were provided by Kings Family Restaurant in New Castle and coordinated through the terrific efforts of John Richnavsky of Robinson Township. We also provided 300 shoe boxes full of health care items and winter accessories as Christmas presents to people in eleven different venues in the area. Many thanks to Lorraine Hungerman and Betty Graziani who led the project, along with other volunteers who packed and delivered the gifts. Our St. Vincent de Paul conference will also assist the Ladies of Charity in their effort to provide gift cards to the families of about 200 children for their Christmas presents. We praise God for your generosity.

    LADIES OF CHARITY

Many thanks to the Ladies of Charity that will be delivering 120 bags of cards and pictures, on behalf of our parishes, to our home-bound and nursing-home parishioners. May God bless you in your work!

Oplatki Oplatki is now available at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, for $4.00 a package. See the display near the elevator in Holy Family Hall (the narthex). Oplatki, pronounced o-pwaht-kee, is a Christmas tradition that originated in Poland. The word Oplatki means “Angel Bread”. There are 3 white wafers and 1 pink wafer, imprinted with beautiful Christmas images, in each package. The white are to be used by the humans in the family and the pink are for the family pet(s). People from all nationalities have come to love this tradition. Just before the Christmas Eve meal, the entire family gathers to share the oplatki. Usually the eldest member will begin by breaking off a piece of the wafer and

giving it to another family member along with a wish for good health, happiness, etc.,

whatever good blessing they desire for that person to receive. This continues from person

to person until all have received a blessing and a piece of the wafer. You then can do the same

with the family pet(s). Take a piece of the pink wafer for each pet and give it to them along with

a blessing. Pets are remembered because of the animals that were present in the stable to greet

the “Christ Child” on the “First Holy Night”.

    ARING IVING ERVING

…the revelation of the mystery kept secret for long ages but now manifested through the prophetic writings and, according to the command of the eternal God, made known to all nations… -Romans 16: 25-26

ADVENT 2020 - WHO ARE WE WAITING FOR? The prophet Isaiah calls Him “Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9: 5).” Archbishop Fulton Sheen emphasized three points about his birth that were unique. He was pre-announced; He divided human history according to before and after his coming; and He was born for the purpose not of living, but of dying (Life of Christ). St. Athanasius tells us that His incarnation was to restore to incorruption that which we humans had corrupted by sin. “He alone, being Word of the Father and above all, was in consequence both able to recreate all, and worthy to suffer on behalf of all and to be an ambassador for all with the Father” (On the Incarnation). We know Him from today’s Gospel as the baby called the Son of God before His conception. We see Him grow to be the wise and compassionate teacher and healer who eventually suffers, dies, and rises for us. Who is He to you? How well do you feel you know Him? Many years ago, a self help book by Harriet Braiker warned against being a “Type E personality.” This meant that we should not try to be “everything to everybody.” The One who we await this Advent IS the one who can be and truly is “Everything to Everybody.” Let’s resolve to never stop getting to know Him better through prayer, scriptures, the inspired teachings of the Church and the saints, and the sacraments.

LET US PRAY Please join together in prayer as we transition to officially become St. Raphael the Archangel Parish.

In the upcoming Christmas/Holy Family bulletin, you will find a tear-out page that has a special novena to St. Raphael the Archangel. Let us pray together from December 26 to January 3, through the intercession of St. Raphael the Archangel, for the needs of our parishioners, and the blessings of our Lord. PRAYER SHAWLS NEEDED We have a very low inventory of prayer shawls. We could use any prayer shawls that you prayer shawl angels can make. If you need patterns or yarn, I can get those to you.
