Equestrian Club

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all competitors, their families, friends and visitors to the Dean Close Show Jumping competition held at Rectory Farm, Duntisbourne Abbots.

It is a privilege to be able to give so many youngsters the opportunity to compete fortheir schools in a sport they enjoy.

The Equestrian Club at Dean Close is passionate about all aspects of riding. From asyoung as Year 4, Pony Lessons and Stable Management lessons are offered in the PrepSchool and one hour Riding lessons are available to Senior School pupils.

Those with their own horses and ponies are able to compete in teams or as individualsin Dressage, Cross Country, Eventing and Show Jumping competitions. Polo poniescan either be hired or bring your own ponies for training each week and for the Novice,Intermediate or Senior Polo Tournaments.

Talented riders can apply to be considered for our Equestrian Scholarship programmeas part of the entry programme to Dean Close at 11+ and 13+.

A Vet & Emergency First Aid will be availableon the ground and a Farrier will be on call.Refreshments will be available all day.

All dogs must be kept on leads at all times.Any dog mess must be cleared up.

Outside assistance will not be tolerated andcould result in elimination.

Only NSEA affiliated competitors may warmup & compete ponies & horses on the showground.

All competitors, parents and representativesfrom every school must ensure that they actcourteously to stewards and officials at alltimes. Rudeness will not be tolerated.

In the event of cancellation, your entry willbe refunded upon receipt of a SAE, less £5per cheque administration fee.

EQUESTRIAN CLUB


Dean Close equestrians have gone fromstrength to strength over the last few years.Dean Close is proud to have riders competingat Badminton Grass roots BE100 and Horseof the Year Show in Pony Show Jumping andShowing this year. We also have had a greatstart to this equestrian year with qualificationfor the county cup dressage and wins at thenationals back in October 2017. The teamsand individuals have been doing very well andhave qualified in Show Jumping teams, JWS,Eventers Challenge and Dressage for theNSEA National Championships held in October.

Equestrian sports are organised and watchedover by Mrs Fleur Cradock, who has beenaround horses all her life and still competesher show horses at International Level. Shetakes great pleasure in introducing beginnersor helping more able riders put together programmes to achieve long-term goals withtheir horses. There are currently 52 membersof the Equestrian Club ranging from beginnerswho are learning to ride and following a Pony

Management Course to those competing atEventing, Show Jumping, Dressage and Polo.

RIDING LESSONS for beginner, intermediateor advanced riders are arranged at Summerhouse Equestrian Centre under instruction from British Horse Society qualifiedteachers. The facilities include two large Indoor Schools, an all-weather arena and anoutdoor course of BSJA standard showjumps.

Equestrian Sport at DEAN CLOSE SCHOOL


POLO is an exciting sport enjoyed by boys and girls atDean Close with training at the Longdole Polo Club inBirdlip. The facilities are excellent with an outdoor arenaand splendid grass pitches to train and play on. Thetop class HPA Instructors, alongside well-trained enthu-siastic polo ponies, offer tuition at the highest standard.Teams are regularly entered in the schools’ winter and summer polo tournaments which are great fun and theyare often successful too.

SHOW JUMPING,CROSS-COUNTRY,EVENTING, DRESSAGEThe School actively supports those with theirown horses to compete intheir chosen disciplines. Individual training programmes are discussed. The teamshave had notable successes but the onus is always on enjoying competing and developingpotential on their horses and ponies.
