Greetings, Brother Sir Knights.

I hope this newsletter finds you well, and I have some bad news for you; we are only a few weeks away from Christmas. I recall a co-worker com-menting years ago that the days drag

on but the years fly by. I guess that is one of life’s bitter ironies.

I wish to thank everyone who has attended the Me-morial Masses that have been held throughout the area in the month of October and November, par-ticularly our own at Corpus Christi on November 11. Captain Paul Brownlie has frequently com-mented at out meetings how our prayers have helped Myrna, and I too believe in the power of prayer to help us. I am hopeful that in praying for our deceased brothers and their families, that I will benefit from good karma, and will receive prayers from my brother Knights when my time in this plane is done.

There is still some concern in the system pertain-ing to the new regalia that has been authorized by Supreme. My suggestion to those who are upset about the change is to relax. No one is compelled to purchase the new regalia. Supreme has the au-thority to determine how the members of the or-ganization present to the public, and is fully within their right to determine what the Regalia of the or-

ganization shall be, but they cannot compel any-one to purchase it. If I recall correctly, shortly af-ter joining the Fourth Degree, and prior to joining the Colour Guard, I was permitted to present with the Colour Guard at funerals, wearing my tuxedo and Social Baldric. I was lined up behind the Col-our Guard who were in full Regalia. For those of us who do not purchase the new Regalia, we will simply line up behind those who are in the new Regalia. So relax. This is not the end of the world, and we need to trust that the Directors of the Or-ganization have done their homework, and have decided on a uniform that will not be a detriment to recruitment of a new generation of men into the Fourth Degree and the Colour Guard.

I am going to close this article by:

i) acknowledging the work of Marc Morneau to es-tablish the new website for the Dean Wagner As-sembly. I find it very helpful to be getting the email reminders of events. What a blessing that has been.

ii) reminding you of our Annual Christmas Party and Awards Night, to be held on December 14, 2018. Please plan on joining us if you are able.

Until we meet again, Peace be with you.

FROM THE FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR

FAITHFUL CAPTAINS’S REPORT

Greetings, Brother Sir Knights.

I hope this note finds you and yours in good health and spirits during this Ad-vent season as we prepare ourselves for Christmas. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle we need to remind

ourselves that Jesus is the reason for the season. November is the month we remember our departed and our Colour Guard attended the Memorial Mass at Good Shepherd Parish where the names of de-ceased Knights, CWL and St. Vincent de Paul members were read. Our own Dean Wagner Memo-rial Mass was held at Corpus Christi church where we also honoured those Knights and CWL mem-bers who have gone to the eternal reward.

Our Christmas Party will take place on Friday De-cember 14th at St. Angela Merici Hall. Cost is $35.00 per person with cocktails at 6:00 pm (cash

bar), and dinner at 6:30 pm. Tickets have been mailed to Assemblies and Councils and I ask that you please contact me asap regarding how many of these tickets will be used and return the others. (cut-off date is Monday December10tth ). Please do your best to attend this traditional annual Christ-mas dinner as it affords the unique opportunity to enjoy fraternity with not only our brothers but our Ladies as well.

You can register on our new Dean Wagner Uknight web-site at www.deanwagnerassembly862.org or contact me at the information below.

May God's peace and joy be yours this holiday sea-son and throughout 2019.

Vivat Jesus! Paul Brownlie

FAITHFUL ADMIRAL’S REPORT

Dear Brother Sir Knights, Ladies, and Friends:

I hope you all are keeping warm during these colder fall days. I’m happy to report that our assembly currently has 10 signed applications for membership. Once we have in-

formation about the 2019 exemplification, I will pass along this information to our candidates.

We can also post relevant materials on our as-sembly website. I wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and all the best in 2019.

Fraternally Yours,

S.K. Dr. John Cappucci, PFN Faithful Admiral

God is With Us

“O come, O come, Immanu-el.” These words we hear most prominently in the season of Advent echo the deep longing of the human heart that reaches out to God. When we ask God to come, we

are admitting that to some degree He is current-ly absent from our lives and our world. While it is true that God is everywhere, the experience of loneliness can still be still be felt in our world. How do we understand, therefore, that God who is everywhere is at the same time ab-sent? Why do we cry out to God to draw close if He already is close to us? The answer has to do with the way relationships work. God’s presence is truly already here, yet we sometimes miss Him. We can be too busy, too self-focused, and too absorbed in the troubles of our time to si-lently listen to the gentle words of our sav-iour. We also can fail to see Christ in the ordi-nary experiences of life. We can fail to see Him in the poor, in the mentally ill, in a devout pray-er life, in the words of sacred scripture, and in a Holy Hour of adoration.

The season of Advent calls us to prepare for Christ’s coming – a coming that has already tak-en place and endures. In this cry from our hearts, for God to fill the deepest longings of the human heart, we learn not only to cry out to Him in our personal need, but also in the lives of others. When Jesus was born, He so ordered things that the Shepherds would be the first to receive this Good News. Jesus included this

group of men who were not popular, wealthy and were often living a lonely, thankless life. Jesus comes to draw close to those who are spiritually lost, those who are relationally poor, and those who are forgotten.

St. Teresa of Calcutta had a deep, burning de-sire to see the face of Jesus, and she sought it out in her service of the poor. She sought out the face of Christ by turning no one away, and welcoming the most destitute, suffering poor people in her region. If we find ourselves over-whelmed with an experience of loneliness or are grateful for a satisfied heart, these two experi-ences can draw us to consider the needs of oth-ers in what they don’t have and what they long for.

During this season of Advent and Christmas, I challenge you to consider inviting someone who will be left alone this Christmas around your own dinner table. Perhaps take the time to serve at the Down-Town Mission, make a dona-tion to St. Vincent de Paul. This season in the Church calls us to cry out to God that He come, and where there is Love, there is certainly God. May we each open our hearts to put away the things that cause ourselves to be blinded to Christ’s presence, all sin, all excessive self-preoccupation, and all distractions. May we open our hearts to a saviour who thinks we are worth spending time with.

God is with us:

Alleluia.

COMPTROLLER REPORT

Page 6: DEAN WAGNER ASSEMBLY NO. 0862 · 2018. 11. 27. · December 2018 DEAN WAGNER ASSEMBLY NO. 0862 Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus 85 Park St E Windsor, Ontario N9A 3A8 Over 100 Years

December 2018

It has been almost three months since we launched our Assembly’s new website, www.deanwagnerassembly862.org and our distribution list which allows us reach our members through the UKnight platform has grown to 126 or our 200 or so mem-bers.

I am sure we can all appreciate the fact that the traditional ‘phone committees’ while certainly more personal, are not really practical today. Just think how much time it would take to make 200 or so phone calls! In short, we do not have the time nor the resources to do this anymore.

Another way in which we communicate with our members is through the Newsletter. While the Newsletter is still effective, the fact is we issue 3 or 4 per year, this means we can go months in be-tween newsletters meaning a lot of our members who cannot make it to monthly meetings can go months without being in touch with our Assembly.

Sending a newsletter through Canada Post is no longer practical, nor efficient. The costs, delays disruptions etc., are the reasons why most businesses have moved to more modern and reliable means available.

The most efficient and practical way to even issue a Newsletter is through our website which we have started to do. A member can view it on line or even print at home without waiting for Cana-da Post to deliver it. This saves considerable and expense to the Assembly as well.

So there is no doubt, we are in (and the rest of the world has been for quite a while now) in the ‘electronic age of social media’. The best way in which to communicate with our members is through email, and our website and I encourage all of our members to try to get up to speed on this challenge.

For members not yet on board, this starts with providing us with an email address. If you have email access and you have not been receiving emails from us through UKnight, it’s because the Supreme Data Base does not have your email address. You can send me your email address and I will work with our Faithful Comptroller to get your information updated.

If you do not have a computer or email address, consider asking a relative (son, daughter or even grandchildren) to use their email address as a means of keeping in touch with us. Some of our older members have already started to do this.
