Take the time to read this book. In somecases, failure to follow procedures in thisbook could result in damage that may notbe covered by your guarantee. Pleaseconsult your local dealer with furtherquestions.

ENJOY YOUR BACK YARD EXPERIENCE

Many people today do not use their backyards. But with a Beachcomber Hot Tub,you can enjoy the sun, and the stars.Romantic evenings are enhanced whenyou can look up and see the sky aboveyou as you soak down deep into soothingwaters.

INSTALL YOUR HOT TUB CLOSE TO YOUR BACK DOOR

We recommend that you have your hottub installed about ten feet from your backdoor. In cooler weather, it’s morecomfortable getting to and from the hottub. It also means less wire to install forthe certified electrician. Keeping your hottub close to your home can minimizeinconveniences like wind and blowingleaves.

PREPARE THE SPOT FOR YOUR HOT TUB

Built as an integrated unit, yourBeachcomber Hot Tub is fully portable. Ifyou move, you can take it with you as youwould with any other home appliance. That’s why it’s important to have easyaccess for installation or removal. Makesure that you have a flat, level spot foryour hot tub.

Following are some ideas for you to helpyou prepare the site. A concrete pad isusually ideal. But if you choose to useanother base for your hot tub, theseproducts are widely available at yourhome renovation store.

LIFT ‘N STORE MAKES COVER REMOVAL EASY

If you will be installing a Lift ‘n Storecover remover, you’ll need a few extrainches of clearance. Ask your localBeachcomber dealer for the specificationson the Lift ‘n Store.

A NOTE ON WOOD DECKING

A full hot tub can weigh several thousandpounds when filled with water. It’s up toyou to check with your local city hall forbuilding codes when installing on a raiseddeck. If you are sinking your hot tub into adeck, make sure that the safety step (onProtec models) fits the installation, or theaccess doors (on portable models) willopen without obstruction.

MAKE WAY FOR THE DELIVERY CREW

Here are three easy steps to check beforeyour hot tub is delivered. Depending onwhat your installation looks like, these aresome of the most common situations wehave found, and wanted to pass themalong to make your installation easier.

NOTES TO THE QUALIFIED INSTALLER

Your Beachcomber Hot Tub is a powerfulappliance. We recommend you use aqualified electrician to install your hot tubsafely and correctly. They should followthe electrical code for your area. It isalways necessary to install a ground faultinterrupter (GFCI). This breaker isdesigned to shut down your hot tub in the event of an emergency.

USE COPPER CONDUCTORS ONLY

A connector marked “ground” is providedwithin the control box. To reduce the riskof electrical shock, connect this connectorto the grounding terminal of the electricalservice panel with continuous copper wire, equivalent in size to the conductorssupplying this equipment. “Bonding lugs”are also provided on the equipmentenclosure to connect a minimum No. 6AWG solid copper conductor between thehot tub and any metal surfaces, that are

closer than 5 feet to the hot tub. To reducethe risk of electrical shock, connect thebonding lugs in accordance with yourarea’s electrical code.

CONNECTING YOUR HOT TUB TO THEPOWER SUPPLY PANEL

Locate the electrical access on the left andright side of the hot tub in the black kickplate. Route the wires through the sidethat is most convenient and plug the sidenot used with the 1” PVC plug provided.

CARING FOR THE HOT TUB CABINETRY

Native to North America, western redcedar is one of the most highly prizedwoods in the world. West Coast FirstNations called western red cedar “long lifegiver” because its wood, bark and rootssupplied so many of their artistic andmaterial needs. Builders admire its long, straight grain and resistance to naturaldecay. That’s why it’s so important to keepit looking new. You can do that byapplying Nu Wood two step process to the cabinetry once a year. Nu Wood iseasy to use, and it’s available at your local Beachcomber Hot Tub store. Ask forit by name.

Avoid applying varnish, shellac or surfacesealant to the wood. They tend to reactwith the natural chemicals in the cedarand could spoil the finish with yellowing, peeling or flaking. Your new BeachcomberHot Tub’s cabinet is treated with a specialsealant at the factory.

6 - 1 How to Keep your Hot Tub Water Clean and Fresh

CLEANING YOUR HOT TUB WATER

You need to keep your hot tub clean andready to use. When you enter your hottub, you bring in as much contaminant as50 people would in a normal sizedswimming pool! Because your hot tub issuch a small, enclosed environment, itneeds to be a sanitary place. Weaccomplish this with a simple three stepprocess:

1 - Balance2 - Filtration3 - Sanitation

The water that comes from your tap athome is fine for showers or bathing, because it is drained immediately afteruse. In a hot tub, your water is used forup to three months. Hot water is a goodbreeding ground for bacteria, so sanitizingbecomes necessary, as well asmaintaining a specific mineral balance.Having that mineral balance in placeensures that the water, which is naturallycorrosive to metal, will not cause damageto the hot tub equipment. We recommendmonthly water testing.

WARNING

Maintain water chemistry in accordancewith manufacturer’s instructions.

WARNING

Please be careful with chemicals - damageto the surface of the hot tub can occur dueto the improper use of chemicals such astrichlor or chlorine, chemical tablets, acidsor hot tub cleaners. Do not let undissolvedchemicals lie on the surface of the hot tub. This could invalidate your guarantee.Improper water chemistry balance candamage the hot tub and invalidate yourguarantee.

FILL HOT TUB WITH WATER

Once the hot tub has been filled to thecorrect level and pumps are primed andrunning, you can begin to treat the wateraccording to your Beachcomber WaterCare Program.

Consult your local Beachcomber dealer forspecific water care instructions.

How to Keep your Hot Tub Water Clean and Fresh 6 - 2

WATER TESTING

Your Beachcomber Store is equipped toperform a thorough analysis of your hottub water. Take a one liter sample to yourstore and they will advise you on theproducts necessary to properly balanceand care for your hot tub. Unbalanced hottub water can quickly damage yourequipment. Your Beachcomber store willadvise you on how to protect yourinvestment.

BALANCE

Hot tub water must have the correctchemical balance. Unbalanced water canirritate eyes, corrode the equipment, leavemineral deposits, and decrease theeffectiveness of the sanitizer.

Balanced water means establishing properbalance among Total Alkalinity, pH,Calcium Hardness and Total DissolvedSolids.

For a thorough analysis of your hot tubchemical balance, just bring a watersample to your Beachcomber Dealer. Theywill test your hot tub water sample forfree.

SHOCKING

Hot tub water should be shocked once aweek. This will ensure any organic wastesare oxidized and the hot tub water iscrystal clear. BROMATE, LITHCHLOR, orSPA CHLOR should be used to shock yourhot tub.

The sanitizer level should be raised to 10ppm (parts per million). If your test kitonly reads to 5 ppm you can still get anapproximate reading by running the test, then removing half of the test water in thevial and replacing it with tap water.Multiply the new reading by two.

The best time to shock your hot tub is atthe end of the day while the hot tub is notbeing used. Do not use your hot tub untilthe bromine level is below 6 ppm orchlorine level is below 5 ppm.

NOTE: Remove your hot tub cover beforeadding any chlorine or bromine and allow15 minutes of circulating before replacingthe cover.

If you have more specific questions aboutthe water in your hot tub, bring a 1 litersample to your Beachcomber Store fortesting.

DRAINING YOUR HOT TUB

Because a hot tub holds a relative smallamount of water, contaminants such asbody oil, perspiration, dirt, hair, etc., maybecome quite concentrated. For thisreason, the water should be drained andreplaced about every two to three monthsdepending on use.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FOR THEHOT TUB OWNER

How do we get our Beachcomber Hot Tubinto our backyard?

Your Beachcomber dealer will deliver yourhot tub to your yard. Prepare for yourdelivery - clear the way of toys, bikes, barbecues and wood piles. If you needmore information about your hot tub suchas weight and dimensions, check Section9, “Details Reference Chart”. YourBeachcomber Hot Tub is double wrappedfrom the factory to protect it from anydamage during shipping.

How soon can we use our hot tub afterwe fill it with water?

Your hot tub will probably need from 6-12hours to heat to temperature after you fillit with your garden hose. Once it’s hot, your initial startup dose of hot tubdisinfectant will need to be applied. Again, your Beachcomber dealer will be there towalk you through that process of startup.Never use your hot tub without the properlevels of disinfectant (sanitizer).

How long can we stay in?

Once you are enjoying your soak, you willfind that the average time is about twentyminutes. You can stay in longer by simplysitting out on the lip of the hot tub. It’sstrong enough to support you and friends!

How do we know if there is enough waterin our hot tub?

Fill your hot tub so that the water comeshalfway up the skimmer (see diagram). You can go higher than that, but never golower. A low water level can make yourskimmer gulp air, which can causeproblems in the motor and pump. Consultpage 9-1 for the correct gallons/liters foryour model of hot tub.

Correct water level. Your skimmeropening should be no less than halfwaysubmerged for optimum performance.

How do we connect the electricity?

This is not a job that you can do yourself, unless you are a licensed electrician. Youwill need an electrical line to run fromyour breaker box in your house to the hottub. Any qualified electrician can do thisjob for you. The electrician will choose thecorrect wire size and the breaker size foryour hot tub.

Your Beachcomber Hot Tub Cover requires very little maintenance. CoverAllis a water based product that you canapply to the cover on a mild day. Itprotects the vinyl cover from the sun’sharmful UV rays. Use CoverAll everymonth to keep your cover clean and UV protected.

If your diaphragm is in good shape, theremay be another problem. There is a clearhose attached to this diaphragm that linkson to the back of the Management System(the black metal box on top of the motor).See that this clear tubing has not poppedoff the pneumatic switch. If it has, it mayhave become stretched; simply cut off ahalf inch of the hose and replace it backonto the switch nipple.

What is the best surface finish used inmaking a hot tub?

Cast acrylic. For a lasting hot tub finish, the material you use must have acolorfast, non-porous, stain resistant andhigh-gloss surface that resists chipping, cracking and denting. Equally important, ithas to be easy to clean. The Acuraluxfinish used by Beachcomber has out-performed any other material for the pastdecade.

Do I need a plumber to hook up my hot tub?

No, a Beachcomber hot tub is acompletely integrated unit. You fill andempty the hot tub with water from agarden hose. The water is cleaned andheated through its own internal systems.

What type of power do I need to run ahot tub?

120 or 240 Volt hookup depending on themodel. Your amp rating will vary with yourhot tub. Refer to your local dealer.

How do I know a hot tub is structurallystrong enough to last for a lifetime?

Like the foundation and framing of a well-built home, the structure of a hot tub isimpossible to see but vitally important. There are three parts to every Beach-comber Hot Tub’s structural strength.First, overall support; the best material isGlasloc 2000, a plastic binding of resinand glass applied in layers to theunderside of the hot tub shell. Second is apressure-treated base to distribute hottub weight evenly. Third, and equallyimportant, is the I-beam support systemwhich supports the shell like the trusses inthe roof of your home. Beachcomber usesthis three-step support, and we guaranteethe structural integrity of our hot tubs forlife.

7 - 5 Questions and Answers about your Beachcomber Hot Tub

What happens after I pay for my hot tub?How do I know I’ll receive after-saleservice?

Good question. Does the store have aservice centre? Is there more than onelocation? Is there a dealer network? Isthere a toll-free 800 number to contact themanufacturer? How long has the companysold the hot tub brand it carries? Where isthe hot tub made? And how long has themanufacturer been in business? These aregood questions to ask. At Beachcomber,we believe we have the answers - and allpositive.

What about the hot tub itself? Are thereenough jets?

It’s the kind of jet - and not the number -that’s more important. Demandinterchangeable massage inserts that canbe switched into different WaterportsTM aseasily as you change a lightbulb.

Do more motors and pumps make abetter hot tub?

No, look for a carefully engineered waterflow energy saving system that providesthe least horsepower with maximum jetaction. Why? Because it eliminates waterrestriction. Remember, don’t make thesame mistake as the auto industry in theseventies. The bigger motor is notnecessarily better.

Should I buy a hot tub with the powersource underneath?

With the power source inside the hot tub,one wall will be without maximuminsulation. It’s like insulating only threewalls of your home. It’s best to buy a fullyfoam-filled hot tub.

Does air space around the hot tub workas well as insulation?

No. If it worked, we could insulate ourhomes with just air space between thewalls. Likewise, the best way to keep thewarmth in your hot tub is to use foaminsulation.
