Dear Cheerleading Candidate,
Hello and thank you for showing interest in the Walnut Hills High School and Jr.
High Cheerleading Squad. We are very excited about the opportunity to meet all of you
and share our enthusiasm for the sport of cheerleading. It is very important that you and
your parent/guardian read and complete all material in this packet and bring completed
forms with you to the First Day of Clinic – April 10th
, 2017. A check list is also
provided on the next page for your reference for paperwork that is required. Please note if
all items are not received on April 10th
(unless previous arrangements have been made
with parent/guardian and coach), a candidate will NOT be able to participate in clinics
nor tryout.
Tryouts will be held Monday, April 10th
through Thursday, April 13th
(Clinic
Dates) 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with actual tryouts held Friday April 14th
beginning at 5:00
pm. Students who make the squad will receive an email no later than Monday morning
and a complete list of all teams will be posted near the athletic office after 10:00 am on
Monday. There will be a MANDATORY fitting for uniforms/spirit wear on Thursday
April 26 at 6:00 pm, followed by our mandatory parent meeting for all squads at 7:00 pm
Cheerleading is a very demanding sport that requires commitment on the field
during the game, and off the field amongst peers, family, and friends. As a Walnut Hills
Cheerleader you will be required to show excellent sportsmanship, eagle pride, and
always excel academically.
Jr High: Students must have a minimum of a 2.0 G.P.A. and are allowed one
failing third quarter grade in order to be eligible for tryouts. Once making the team, to
remain eligible, students must pass 5 classes in the immediately preceding grading period
(students must get a D or better in 5 classes in the most recently completed quarter, PE
DOES count toward those 5 classes).
High School: Students must have a minimum of a 2.0 G.P.A. and are allowed one
failing third quarter grade in order to be eligible for tryouts. Once making the team, to
remain eligible, students must pass 5 credit hours in the immediately preceding grading
period (PE does NOT count toward credit hours).

Try Out information 2017-2018
Mandatory Clinic Dates: April 10th - 13th 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Jr. High School Gym (1501 Blair Ave)
Tryout: April 14th beginning at 5:00 p.m. Jr. High School Gym ** Candidates must stay for the duration of each clinic day**
RESULTS ARE FINAL!!!!! NO EXCEPTIONS
NO GUM, FOOD OR SODA/POP…ONLY WATER AND OR
GATORADE/POWERADE. NO jewelry of any kind allowed (NO STUD EARRINGS, RINGS, NECKLACES ETC.)
Phones are to be turned OFF or on SILENT before coming into the gym
and are NOT allowed to be used during clinics or tryouts. Phones may be used to record material taught at the end of clinics each day.
Cheerleading consists of two seasons (Basketball and Football).
Competition is optional and will be separate.
Each student will receive a head shot with their tryout number for tryout selections (pictures will be deleted immediately after tryouts and team selections). Candidates will be randomly placed in tryout groups
Tryouts will be videotaped for coaches viewing only. Once selections are made videos will be deleted.
Clinics and tryouts are CLOSED. Only coaches and current senior cheerleaders teaching material are allowed. NO EXCEPTION
If you earn a position on one of the cheer squads, you are expected to accept the position. If you forfeit the position you will not be able to tryout the following year.
FORMER EAGLE CHEERLEADER: All former Eagle cheerleaders must
tryout, and are expected to do the same as the other applicants. No one has a guaranteed spot. If you have a forwarded balance, AND/OR unfulfilled parent commitment(s) from the previous year, you will be ineligible to try out.

Try Out information 2017-2018 What to wear?
NO “EAGLE CHEER” APPAREL ALLOWED Clinic: Cheer/tennis shoes, shorts, t-shirt, hair in pony tail off shoulders. Tryouts: Plain white t-shirt, navy or black colored shorts, cheer/tennis
shoes, hair in pony tail off shoulders. Make-up should be natural. Bows are optional.
Candidates will be asked to leave if they are not wearing proper attire. How will I be scored?
Scores will be computed for candidates based upon the following areas: Academics: Teacher Evaluations and Grades Clinic Material: Chants, Cheer, Dance, Jumps Confidence/Enthusiasm, Motions, Rhythm, Voice, Tumbling (Required: Cartwheel, and Round-off)
Cuts: There will be two rounds of cuts. The 1st round of cuts will take place after clinics on Tuesday by observation of coaches. Those who advance to the next round will be listed, by their tryout number, outside of the athletic office before 10:00 a.m Wednesday morning.
NO MAKE-UP TRYOUTS unless arrangements have been made with
coaches prior to tryouts.
COACHES WILL HAVE FINAL DECISION OF TEAMS. TEAMS WILL NOT BE CHANGED.

Jr. High School Squad Makeup
There will be two squads for the Junior High Cheer
Program. Teams will either be determined based on grade
level or scores.
Football
Both squads will cheer at home and away games. Transportation will be
provided to away games. Please note that there may be games that
transportation is not available and a coach will notify parents.
Both squads will also have the opportunity to cheer with Varsity at the first
home game, and homecoming night.
Basketball
Both squads will cheer at all HOME games, and any season tournaments. Due to
OHSAA regulations, only 8 cheerleaders are allowed on the court at a time.
Coaches will make a rotating schedule for games. Before the season begins any
excused schedule conflicts must be submitted to coaches (date will be given
later). AFTER the schedule is sent, it will be their responsibility to find a
replacement, or will be unexcused.

High School Squad Makeup
FRESHMEN: 9TH gr. JUNIOR VARSITY: 9th-11th gr. VARSITY: 10th-12th gr
Seniors are NOT allowed to cheer Junior Varsity.
IMPORTANT: The coaches reserve the right to NOT take the maximum number for
each squad as well as have an open tryout for transfer students at any time.
Football
Squads will consist of no more than 14 cheerleaders.
Freshmen and Junior Varsity will have opportunities to cheer with Varsity at the
first home game and homecoming night. Please note Freshmen and Junior
Varsity may be invited to cheer at additional Varsity home games.
Transportation is not provided for JV and Freshmen squads due to games being
on Saturdays.
Basketball
Due to OHSAA regulations, only 8 cheerleaders are allowed on the court at a
time. Coaches will make a rotating schedule for games. Before the season begins

Financial obligations 2017-2018
(High school cheerleading squad)
Below you will find a pricing list for the season. Please note the total price is
for the entire season (April/May 2017 to March 2018), these prices are
estimated and are the max for each category. To offset costs, fundraising
will be offered and will go toward individual accounts and the cheer
program.
Mandatory UCA Summer Cheer Camp $380.00
(4 Days, 3 Nights Lodging, Meals)
Spirit/Practice Wear: $180.00 (includes some form of l/s top or pant)
Mandatory Pay-To-Play: TBD (Pay to Play will be paid at one time
to cover both seasons and will include the fee for final forms)

Parental Permission:
My child, __________________________ has my permission to tryout to become a cheerleader
at Walnut Hills School. I understand that he/she must abide by the rules and regulations set
forth by the coaches and the athletic department at Walnut Hills High School, and be present for
all practices, games and other events. I understand all costs involved as stated in the packet and
have fully read and understand the rules and regulations. I understand that the violation of any
of these rules may lead to temporary or permanent suspension from the squad. I understand
that consistently negative remarks, or acts in a manner that may jeopardize the name and
reputation of WHHS Cheer Program or Walnut Hills High School will be subjected to removal
with no refund.
I understand that all forms with a blue star must be completed, turned in by April 10th, and my
child must have a current physical on file by the first clinic date or he/she will not be allowed to
participate. I also understand that the results of the tryouts are FINAL. The coach has the option
to open tryouts at any time during the year to any Walnut Hills transfer student. I understand
that my child must attend all tryout sessions (unless arrangements have been made with
coaches ahead of time) in order to tryout. I understand that my daughter/son will be evaluated
by qualified coaches.

Teacher Evaluation for Cheerleading Tryouts 2017-2018
In order for a WHHS student to tryout they must receive teacher evaluations. Not only do
cheerleaders have to excel with spirit they also must excel in academics. Teacher
evaluations count for a portion of each candidate’s score during tryouts. It is very
important to give the student an honest rating based on your knowledge of that individual
student and how you feel the student does in YOUR class or classes. Please be realistic as
well as fair. These evaluations will not be shared with the student. They will be
