Dear Friends in Christ, It’s hard to believe that our summer is just about over and that students and teachers are returning to school—it always surprises me each year to see all of the back to school pictures on Facebook. Whether we like it or not, we will soon be in the full swing of another year and all of the fun and busyness that it entails. This space in each bulletin is designed to function or serve a number of different purposes, but more often than not it becomes a place to share updates. With everything coming up, it probably doesn’t hurt to over communicate some important items:

• With the start of the school year, we are back to a full schedule of events and programs. If your child(ren) is not registered at BHCS, we really want them to register with our CCD program. This time of the year also begins our RCIA process, the way in which people explore and join our Church—please consider inviting someone who needs to be a part of our Church Family. We are also about to begin a number of programs and opportunities to grow in holiness, so please stay tuned. Two upcoming events I want to specifically draw everyone’s attention to are taking place this week: the Over 55 Potluck and Pints with Priests. We hope you’ll consider joining us.

• We have two important job postings currently for our Parishes: 1) the Director of Music and Liturgy, and 2) Parish Secretary. The search for the Director of Music and Liturgy has been going on for some time and we continue to need everyone’s prayers that the Holy Spirit guide us to find the right person. The Parish secretary position just came open because Courtney has accepted a new job in Sandusky, where she lives. If you know someone who might be interested in either position, please encourage them to check out the Job Postings.

• We are currently focusing on two major projects in our Parishes and I thought I’d share a little update. The work in our Faith Life Center is moving quickly thanks to the generous help of so many volunteer painters from both Parishes—the place is really looking great. At the same time work is underway for the updated ceilings and lighting, along with the completion of our HVAC project. I also want to recognize a couple of the familiar contractors that are doing such a great job: Gabel Construction, Burkett Electric, Rick Evans HVAC, and Kuhns Northcoast Security. I can’t wait for us to have an open house to show off the progress and share the plans for the future. The other major project underway is the completion of the parking lot and outdoor shrine project at St. Joseph. Earlier today we received the final plans and we’re looking forward to a quick completion thanks to our friends at Mosser Construction. The final plans came out beautifully and will match with some awesome new projects that we’re hoping to tackle in the future. As always, thanks to everyone for your generous support of our efforts to care for our campuses!

Thanks again everyone for your continued prayers and support. A lot is going on at St. Ann and St. Joseph, and it is my sincere hope that everyone will continue to be engaged and take ownership of our important mission of growing in holiness together! Sincerely Yours in Christ, Fr. Michael Roemmele Pastor

The Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) funds the Diocese of Toledo and the important work of Bishop Thomas. Catholics from around our Diocese are invited to help support these efforts by supporting the ACA. The goal for St. Ann is $18,035 and we are currently at $9,675, which is 53.65%. The goal for St. Joseph is $36,305 and we are currently at $23,270, which is 64.10%. There is still time to support the campaign and help our parishes achieve their goal: please make use of the envelopes located at the en-trances of both churches. Thanks again for your support! SJCC’s Annual Golabki Dinner will be held on September 15th starting at 5pm in the High School Cafeteria. Carry-out is available. We hope to see you there!

Page 6: Dear Friends in Christ,

Every church I enter, whether as the pastor of a parish or a guest, I stand in awe of the building that surrounds me. I marvel, for instance, at the beauty of the stained-glass windows. Typically, each window has a dedication or “in memoriam” of an individual or a group of people. When I sit down in the pew to pray or stand at the altar to say Mass, I think back to all the people who have worshipped in that place: the priests who stood there before me, the people who build the church, and those who have prayed there throughout the years; I even think of those who will come in the future. The church in which you just attended Mass exists because people worshipped there before you, gave of their resources, and helped the Church to continue her saving mission. The reality of those who pray in a community became clear to me when I visited a local nursing home once for Mass. Due to my schedule, it has been a few months since I had said Mass there. There was a lady who was there every time I said Mass at the nursing home, and I had a memory of her from my early adult years when I would frequent a church in Green Bay for daily Mass. She was a daily Massgoer. I felt honored to be able to celebrate Mas and bring her the Eucharist in the nursing home. She wasn’t one of my parishioners, so I didn’t hear of her death. As I prepared for Mass that morning in the nursing home, I asked the residents where the lady with the oxygen was. I didn’t know her name. They told me, sadly, that she had passed. Remember those who have worshipped before us gives them a certain proximity to us. As you attend Mass and receive the Eucharist, remember those who have gone before you in faith, who worshipped where you do and who, by their presence there, have given you the opportunity to receive the living God in that place. Thank you, Jesus, for those who have come to this place of worship before me. Thank You for their dedication so I can now be here and receive You in Holy Communion. Grant them eternal rest and a place at the banquet table in the Kingdom of Heaven. Amen.

Are you interested in or do you know someone who is interested in joining the Catholic Church? As a Catholic, did you miss Con-firmation or another sacrament and would like to enter more fully into the life of the Church? We have just the thing for you – it is the RCIA. RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It is a ministry by which we share the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ with those who are participating. In the course of faith sharing, we try to teach elements of the Catholic Faith, foster a deep pray-er life, and develop community within the group and within the parishes. We meet on Sundays after the 10:30 Mass. We watch an inspir-ing video and spend some time discussing elements from the video and asking questions. The “Rite” also involves some public ritual in which the participants are prayed for and introduced to the parish as a whole. We also visit Rosary Cathedral for a spe-cial presentation to, and receive blessing from, our bishop. The important culmination of the ministry happens at the Easter Vigil, celebrated in the evening before Easter Sunday. During this Mass, we celebrate Baptisms, Professions of Faith, Confir-mations, and First Holy Communions. We meet a few more times to close out our year. If you are interested or you know someone who is interested, please call the parish office!
