DEAR MR. KILMER..(G.9)

Based on the novel Dear Mr. Kilmer by Anne Schraff, people view Richard from many different sides. Many people think him as a foe. Besides that, they also think him as a good friend. The question is why do people view him in so many ways?

People see Richard as a stranger because he always supports the Schermers. When Hannah is bullied, Richard always stands by her side even though people don’t like the Schermers. They think the Schermers are spies sent from Germany to get some information. Richard also has been a stranger in his family. It is because Richard likes to write poems but his brother, Gus assumes poetry as a sissy stuff and he also hates poetry.

In addition, people also see him from the positive side such as a good friend. Who think Richard is a good friend? One of them who thinks Richard is a good friend is Hannah. It is because Richard always cares about her. He signs the card. He is also Mr. Kilmer’s best friend. He always exchanges his letters with Mr. Kilmer. He knows Mr. Kilmer’s background such as his family members. He asks some advices from Mr. Kilmer on how to be a brave person like him.

What about the people who think him as a foe? Harry and Abner totally think Richard is a foe. It is because Richard always cares about the Schermers such as when Richard signs the card but his classmates don’t. Gus also thinks it is a fool thing to do. He puts his trust on the Schermers even though the people never do that such as Richard tries to be brave when he wants to send the card to Hannah.

As a conclusion we can see how people view Richard. All of them have their own view about Richard in different ways. Richard is still himself even though some people see him as stranger and a foe. In other words, we must be our self like Richard even though people view us from negative side.
