In our usual fashion the Class of 2022 welcomed our new pupils into the Academy. I always find their first day a

enable us to e-mail everything directly to you that relates to your child and keep you up to date with House and

Year group events.

OVER THE SUMMER….

SUMMER SCHOOL

Over the summer holidays some of our incoming pupils came in for Bolingbroke summer school, a week of fun and

activities where they got to know the school and some of their teachers and classmates.

YEAR 11 WORK EXPERIENCE

The Year 11s had a week of work experience that ended today. Pupils had placements in a variety of industries and

jobs to give them a taste of workplace environments and maybe even some ideas about their futures.

YEAR 9 TRIP TO CAMBRIDGE

By Ms Tibbetts

The first day back for our Year 9 pupils saw them visit the historical city

of Cambridge.

We kick started the morning by heading to Robinson College where the

pupils were given the privilege of using one of the lecture halls, Umney

theatre. Dr Victoria Harvey, one of the school liason officers, delivered

a very engaging and informative presentation on University life. The pu-

pils were very surprised to learn about the high number of courses

available across the UK (51000!) and of the flexibility and choice on of-

fer. Mr Speight then welcomed Year 9 into their GCSE foundation year,

introducing them to their journey ahead and inspiring future success by

drawing on the phenomenal performance of team GB at the summer Olympics. Ms Green and Ms Davidson offered

further insight into their year ahead through exploring the topics and themes they would be learning this year.

Over lunch, pupils had their first taste of Cambridge with a picnic on The Backs in the sunshine.

Time in the afternoon was completely dedicated to exploring beautiful Cambridge. Popular spots amongst the pupils

were King's Parade, the University Library and the view of punting from Garret Hostel Bridge.

Thank you to all the pupils for the enthusiasm and maturity they showed, they were a credit to the school. Dr Vic-

toria Harvey shared how impressed she was the pupils high level of engagement and participation.

YEAR 10 TRIP TO TWICKENHAM STOOP

By Ms Pinner

The Class of 2020 started their first day of year 10 meeting their new CIVITAS tutors and taking the quick

coach trip to Twickenham Stadium. Our day consisted of a tour of the stadium and RFU facilities, a Goal

Setting Session, and a Dragon's Den Challenge. On the tour, we ran into three year 11 pupils who were in

the middle of their work experience assignments. It was great to see other Bolingbroke pupils out there in

the real world, representing the school so well.

During the Goal Setting Session all pupils had the opportunity to think about the challenges that lay ahead,

and visualize their goals for the coming year. Pupils brainstormed the steps they need to take to reach their

goals by the end of year 10.

The Dragon's Den Challenge was full of creative thinking and team work. Working in groups of 5, pupils

were asked by the RFU to create a campaign to increase participation in rugby across England. Pupils took

turns leading their team through a series of planning steps and finally preparing a presentation.

We ate lunch outside in the sunshine and practiced singing 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot'. After our break we

went back to the Six Nations Suite and had an Introduction to GCSE assembly. Mr. Kerby, Mr. Jones, and

Ms. Pinner shared stories about their experiences as secondary school pupils, including some hilari-

ous prom pictures which were worth more than a few laughs!

It was a day filled with big ideas, deep thinking, and high aspirations. Thank you to the RFU for hosting us at

Twickenham and to all the staff who helped make the sessions meaningful and engaging. The trip was

a thoroughly positive start to year 10 for the Class of 2020!
