TRANSCRIPT
Dear Parishioners,
Following the somberness of the Holy Week
ceremonies and the triumphant grandeur of Easter’s
liturgies, we now enter a period of consistent, yet calm, rejoicing.
We’re, well, sort of, back to “normal.” For the immediate future,
there are no grand ceremonies and no extra Masses. Oh, there are
very special things planned, but they will take place within the
framework of our normal Mass schedule.
For instance, First Holy Communion for our Sunday morning
religious education students will be celebrated at this Saturday’s 4:15
PM Mass. Last weekend, those same students crowned Our Lady in
a flower-filled ceremony. Those in sacramental preparation on
Sunday afternoons will crown Our Lady before the 10:00 AM Mass
on May 12, Mother’s Day. Two young men will receive the
Sacrament of Confirmation on Pentecost Sunday and five youngsters
will receive their First Holy Communion on Corpus Christi Sunday,
June 23. Of course, on that day, we will have our procession through
the neighborhood, culminating with Benediction at the High Altar.
Then, with the return of green vestments, summer at St. Joseph will
be a time of holy peace and tranquility. Well, let’s hope so, at least.
I must be away from the parish twice over the next months. Happily,
the weekday Mass schedule will not be interrupted. Well, at least
that’s the plan. I really must attend the spring meeting of the FSSP.
I’ll fly to Omaha on Monday, May 6, after the 7:30 AM Mass, and
return Thursday, May 9. Father McMahon will return to St. Joseph
and celebrate Mass in my stead on Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday,
May 9.
All priests must attend a retreat once a year. The FSSP retreat will be
June 10 through 14. Again, Father McMahon will sub for me on
Tuesday and Thursday, June 11 and 13. Unfortunately, there can be
no Mass Friday morning, June 14, but I plan to celebrate Mass at
7:00 PM that evening when I return. So, only a little blip that week.
Let us continue to celebrate Easter, rejoicing in Our Lord’s
Resurrection, my children and my friends.
