Pupils spoke vehemently on the topic and came up with their perspective views regarding the same. They cited reasons and supported them with suitable examples from real life to justify their stand. The speakers for the motion said that a computer provides students with detailed information through illustrations and videos and thus learning becomes interesting. Whereas speakers against the motion stressed that teachers can understand a child’s talent, weaknesses and strength better than a computer.

The students were well prepared for the purpose and put up a great logical presentation. Mrs. Merexi D’Silva co-ordinated the activity.

CLASS 3 AND 4 – TOUR TO HYDERABAD “ Educational Tours ”are a source of knowledge and enjoyment. Learning, exploring and experiencing beyond the classroom…….

It was the month of October. The weather was very pleasant. The nights were cool but the days were sunny. These were the “Tour” days of our little ones at VVA (Class 3 and 4).

Away from home… travelling by Volvo… a little experience of shopping… enjoying the fun rides…making it a reality at the Ramoji Film City (Asia’s largest film city) a dream world…exploring the wacky cars designed by Mr. Sudhakar was a great attraction…a glimpse of the lavish life styles of the Nizams and the collection of their personal objects made the Salarjung Museum fascinating.

The magnificent structure “The Golkonda Fort” reflects the genius of its builders was the citadel of the Qutb Shahi dynasty…a crowded market presented an interesting scene from the “ Charminar ”the most striking edifice…the Japanese garden…the flora and the fauna…last but not the least it was SNOW all the way-it’s indeed a Wonder World in HYDERABAD, the sixth largest city in India founded in 1591.

India’s biggest and richest princely state. The city’s sights include the grand palaces of its erstwhile rulers, the Nizams and the colourful bazaars and the mosques of the old city.

Oh! What fun and thrilling experiences to return home with beautiful memories.

After the cruise, we headed to India’s largest mall- Lulu Mall. Our stay at Munnar was a memorable one. Its scenic beauty with splendid tea gardens mesmerized us. At the Tea Museum, children learnt the process of tea-making and benefits of green tea.

The children were awestruck at the performance of the KalariPayutu (Martial Arts). Another fascinating place was the Mettupetty Dam and the Echo Point. The children had a fantastic time on the speed boat.

CLASS 7 AND 8 – TOUR TO DELHI – DEHRADUN – MUSSOORIE The students of Class 7 and 8 of Vidya Vikas Academy were excited as they were going on a much awaited tour during the Diwali break. Many had gone on a holiday with their respective families, but taking a tour with class-mates was something they were looking forward to.

After we arrived Delhi, the students were taken sightseeing, which included the Parliament and India Gate. Next day it took seven hours from Delhi to Dehradun by bus. In Dehradun, we checked into another hotel. After a couple of hours of rest we were taken to a Buddhist Monastery and then kids enjoyed shopping at the Pacific Mall.

Next morning we were taken to Rishikesh. Tourists from all over the world are attracted to this place for yoga, rafting, and travelling. As legends state, Lord Rama did penance here (Rishikesh) for killing Ravana and Lakshmana, his younger brother, crossed the river Ganges, at a point, where the present ‘Lakshman Jhula’ stands today, using a jute rope bridge. The jute-rope bridge was replaced by iron-rope suspension bridge in 1889. Our students saw “Laxman and Ram Jhula” and also took a boat ride across the river, Ganga.

Later after lunch we went to ICFR (Indian Council Of Forest Research and education). Built over a lush green estate spread over 450 hectares, with the outer Himalaya forming its back drop, the institute’s main building is an impressive edifice. Students visited four museums showcasing detailed study on Pathology, Timber, Entomology and Silviculture.

Later in the evening we travelled via bus to Mussoorie. It is a beautiful hill station. The scenery on the way was very charming. The next morning we went to Kempty Falls where students enjoyed a boat ride and some participated in adventurous

sports. In the evening students enjoyed the cable car ride and later shopped at Mall road. After returning to the hotel, we left for Delhi, from where we took a train back to Goa. The entire trip was very interesting and enjoyable.

CLASS 9 AND 10 – TOUR TO AURANGABAD – PUNE Students of Class 9 and 10 were taken on an educational tour to Aurangabad, Imagica and Pune from the 20th of October till the 25th of October. In Aurangabad they were shown the Ajanta and Ellora caves followed by the Daulatabad Fort and Bibi ka Maqbara.

Ajanta and Ellora – the names have magic within themselves. At Ellora caves the highlight is the Kailash Temple. It is the largest monolitihc temple in the world and carved upside down over a period of around 200 years! The architecture is mind bogging.

One says “old places have soul” and this is what we have seen in our visit to the Ajanta caves which is the rich heritage we carry as

an Indian. One is awestruck with the details, and wonders that such elaborate yet fine structures could be created in those times. It was totally amazing. The same evening the students were taken to Bibi Ka Maqbara which is a nice monument and well maintained. It is famously known as the Mini Taj Mahal of Aurangabad.

The students learnt allot from the world heritage sites which depicted life of early man. This educational experience was followed by a fun filled day at Imagica.
