STEWARDSHIP“What did you go out into the desert to see? To
see a prophet? Yes, I tell you,and more than a prophet.”
(Matthew 11:2-11)
John the Baptist challenged people to identifyand acknowledge the error and evil in their lives.
He baptized them with water as a sign of theirdecision to repent—to turn away from sin andlive a new way. While in prison he sent his fol-lowers to Jesus to ask if he was the one they
were expecting. Jesus sent back a simple mes-sage. “Go tell him what you see.” Jesus thensays that no man born of woman is greater than
John, but not because of how he dressed orwhere he lived. No, John was great because heknew the truth, he lived the truth, and he chal-lenged others, and us, to live the truth. Johnwas a prophet, and more. The role of a prophetis to identify the silly, stupid, senseless, and sin-
ful things in our world and to call for change. Indoing that John prepared the way for Jesus. At
our Baptism we are anointed “priest, prophet
and king.” Like John, we must prepare the wayfor Jesus—for ourselves and for others.

Traveling Statue of Our Lady of Fatima
2011
Our Lady’s statue has blessed so many families andlives, so won’t you consider having her in your home for aweek and pray the rosary as a family? She is always there
for us when we need her, especially in these difficult
times we are all facing. Just think of all the special graces
you and your family will receive.
If you would like to have Our Lady in your home for a
week, just sign the log sheet on the table outside the li-
brary; placing your name and phone number (cell or
home) by the date you wish to receive her in your home.
Your will have her from Sunday to Sunday; return the
statue the following Saturday evening or Sunday when
you come to attend Mass.
Let us keep Our Lady visiting our homes, and continue
praying for your families, priests, military and country.
If you have any questions, please call Mary M. Phelan,
(865)233-4137 (evenings) and God Bless You!
CCW[Council of Catholic Women]
The next meeting of the CCW will beThurs., Dec. 16, 7:00 PM in the SocialHall. The program will be Father BrentShelton, speaking on “Priest, Pastor
and Leader of the Community.” Father was unable to speak at the October meeting, due to aconflicting commitment on the same day. But he will beat the December meeting and all are invited to comehear his very interesting presentation. Father leavesplenty of time for questions and answers at the end. Theregular meeting will follow.
The CCW wants to thank very, very much all thosewho baked and donated their home-baked “goodies for sale at our annual Bake/No Bake Sale. It was ahuge success due to their generosity of baking talent, timespent making and baking and money spent buying ingre-
dients. All donated, all appreciated.Much thanks to allthe equally generous parishioners who bought the bakegoods until there was nothing left, and to those who gen-erously donated but left the “goodies“ on the table for others. All of the money we made on this fund raiser willgo to our selected charities that benefit families in needlocally, nationally and internationally.

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
FROM THE COMMUNITY FOOD CONNECTION
THANK YOU ALL for helping to feed the hungry inBlount County. You might like to see some numbers
from October. 2010. You helped provide food for: 51people in 1710 families—1581 were children. Therewere 131 new families that came in for Food Assistancein October. In the Letter of James (2:15-17), we aretold: “If a brother or sister has nothing to wear or no foodfor the day, and one of you says to them, „Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,‟ but you do not give them thenecessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith oitself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
A can of fruit or vegetables a week? With many givinga lot can be done. Praise the Lord with Hymns ofThanksgiving!
CYO FUNDRAISER: Luminaries are being sold for $5at each weekend Mass before Christmas as a fund-raiser for our CYO. The luminaries will be lit at all theMasses on Christmas Eve in memory of, or in honor
of, a loved one. The proceeds will go toward CYOactivities for the year. Thank you for your generosity.
