Dear Parents and Friends,
On behalf of the DHS Choral Department, I extend to you a hearty welcome to our Spring Concert.
140 students first semester and 119 students second semester participated in at least one of our four choral ensembles. Membership in our organization affords students with the ability to learn goal setting, concentrating, taking responsibility, conforming as a group, quick decision making and thriving under pressure.
Since 2012, when the current seniors were freshman, Decatur High Choruses have received 23 overall superior ratings and 1 excellent rating, all superior ratings for sight reading exercises. In fact, since 1998 out of 121 sight reading auditions DHS choruses have scored 117 superior ratings for sight reading. In 2013 we traveled to New York City where members participated in a performance/masterclass at the Metropolitan Opera Guild, located in the Lincoln Center in Manhattan. In 2014 we participated in an adjudicated festival in Chicago, IL. In 2015 20 students travelled to Greece and Turkey and presented a concert at the end of a church service in Athens, also visiting, Patmos, Ancient Ephesus, and Mykonos. Most recently, 30 students participated in a trip to Disney World in Florida. This next year, we plan to participate in the Pearl Harbor All-American Choir and will walk as an entry in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade as part of the 75th Anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Students over the past 4 years have enjoyed varied travel and performance venues.
Four scholarships will be awarded today totaling $3,750. Your $3.00 admission today partially makes those scholarships possible.

I am burned already. When Women are dancing and the candles go out, she who doesn’t pinch, bites you. She who barely runs, flies. Ay, Ay, Ay, I got burned. Ay, Ay, Ay, Grandma, I got burned. People call me a devil, but I’m no such thing. I took confession down in Remedios and I heard Mass in Yolomba. But this game is over, and now the little sparkle is out.
