Adventageous Announcements Our parish bulletins are due early at the printer for the next month or so. Although I write these notes a week before Thanksgiving, as you read this you will have finished up all your turkey leftovers---and suddenly it is Advent. It is part of my personal prayer for all in the parish that we can avail of some time for inner preparation for Christmas. We will hold our Advent Penance Service on Wednesday December 11th at 7pm. It will be a time for some quiet reflection with music and prayers to help us look within, and thus be able to better embrace the time ahead. There will be time for individual one-on-one experience of the sacrament of reconciliation with a priest if you so desire.

We will also hold Evening Reflective Masses on the first 3 Tuesdays in December. Advent booklets are available in the baskets at the corners of the sanctuary. Also check the parish Facebook page and website for more Advent prayer/reflection tools. We are looking for people to help with parish social refreshment times after weekend Masses, usually once a month. If this something you would be willing to help with in terms of prep/serving/cleanup (or even help subsidizing the cost!) let me know by email or call the office. Maybe discuss with your family or neighbors and think about working as a group togeth-er. Someone will contact you with more details and we will work up a schedule for the upcoming months.

We will resume Altar Server Training in the New Year. Look in the bulletin in early part of the New Year for dates and times. For those of you who use Amazon to shop online, we are trying to develop a way to use the SMILE option to raise some funds to help the parish. (It will hopeful-ly be up and running as you read this) Elsewhere in the bulletin you will see that we have started using a QR Code for parish contributions by smartphone. We have had a few complaints about a few people parking “irregularly”. Please park only in designated areas. If you find a gentle reminder on your wind-shield please take it in the spirit intended. Sometimes we may unintentionally mess up the traffic flow, and may even cause some danger for drivers, pedestrians or sleighs. ….Soooo~~~let’s all take advantage of

Advent ….Peter

Quietly Prophetic In a cynical and despairing world, O God, give us a quietly prophetic voice to proclaim your hope.

In a violent and angry world, O God, give us a quietly prophetic voice to proclaim your peace. In a dismissive and disinterested world, O God, give us a quietly prophetic voice to proclaim your compassion. In a lonely and inhospitable world, O God, give us a quietly prophetic voice to proclaim your love. In a grieving and weeping world, O God, give us a quietly prophetic voice to proclaim your joy. May we be so captivated by your hope, O God, that we cannot help but to whisper, to sing, and to enact, the message of your reign which is always coming into our world; And may our quietly prophetic lives, be channels of your restoring grace wherever we may go. Amen.

An Incredible Hope We imagine a world where peace and justice are the ordinary realities of life; We dream of a planet where giving and sharing are second nature to all people; We envision an earth where joy and celebration fill the news and our lives; It may seem like a delusion, but we have an incredible hope! We hope in the One who has come: who proclaimed such a world, and who gave his life for it; We hope in the One who is always coming: surprising us with the presence, and the restoring work, of God; We hope in the One who will come: in every age, to every generation, until this dream has come true. We have an incredible hope, O God, and we praise you for it! Amen.

Due to the holiday early bulletin deadline, the financial stats are

unavailable this week.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Have you set spiritual goals for Advent? You say you don’t have time…so busy with “necessary” goals – partying, shopping & decorating. Christians wishing to take Advent & Christmas to heart are called to make serious choices. Consider a weekly visit to our Adoration Chapel, adhering to one daily spiritual goal, maybe an extra prayer, scriptural reading, even one daily Mass a week. It’s a question of resolving to do so and making the effort. The Holy Spirit shall do the rest! All are welcome!

Dec. 18th~ if you'd like to participate!

A Rite for the Beginning of Advent at Home As our nights grow longer and our days grow short, we look on these earthly signs--light and green branches-- and remember God's promise to our world:

Christ, our Light and our Hope, will come. Listen to the words of Isaiah the prophet: The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; on those who lived in a land as dark as death a light has dawned. You have increased their joy and given them gladness; They rejoice in your presence as those who rejoice at harvest, as warriors exult when dividing spoil. (Is. 9:1-2)

O God, rejoicing, we remember the promise of your Son. As the light from this candle, may the blessing of Christ come upon us, brightening our way and guiding us by his truth. May Christ our Savior bring life into the darkness of our world, and to us, as we wait for his coming. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

St. Joseph’s Church~ Be Proud! Confirmation II Major Service Project: Dance-a-thon Fundraiser for Gigi’s Playhouse~ In October our Con-firmation II sponsored this event for Gigi’s Playhouse, which is a non-profit organization that provides services for Down Syndrome individuals and their families. Our group of young adults did an amazing job setting up, providing games, crafts, small prizes, helping to serve food, dancing, clean-up, etc. I am so glad to know that our young adults had such a great time but more importantly, it warms my heart that they were able to experience how wonderful it feels to share our time and blessings with others. We also want to recognize the committee that planned this event: Annaliese Bird, Michael Broccoli, Aidan, Alexis & Abby Fassinger, Peggy Morocco, Sara Nelson, Victoria Senus and Miranda Stewart. Along with our parent coordinator, Janean Stewart and Jodi Hunt, the event was a true success for Gigi’s Play-house. Thank you all for helping such a wonderful organization and for also making our parish proud by doing such “great things.”

Advent as I Consider the World Situation

God of comfort, these times seem so uncertain, so scary.

The world seems darker than it has in the past and I am less sure of myself.

Maybe that's a good thing; maybe now I am turning to you

with a realization that I need you so much more and that my life is not in my own control.

Let me not forget all of those around the world who are frightened at this moment.

Help those who are victims of terrorism and war. Be with those who have lost so much in the past year.

Hold us all in your loving arms and let us be comforted

by the strength and peace you want so much to offer us

through the birth of your son, Jesus. Thank you for the many gifts you offer us.

Amen

“We Love The Winter Weather...” As we approach the bitter cold season ahead, please be reminded that we follow the West Genesee School District cancelation procedure. If they close, we cancel classes on Tuesday evenings. If after school activities are canceled, than Faith Formation classes / activities will be canceled as well. It is our goal to have closings called in as early as possible for Sunday classes. Often, we will call a snow day the night before so that you can prepare. Sometimes the weather creeps up on us... we will do our best to communicate effectively and efficiently. We always lean toward the side of caution. All closings are listed in the major TV networks: 3, 5, 9 and 10(Spectrum)

Your Coming Great God, We need to remember that how things are now is not how they’ve always been; and it’s not how they always will be. We need to remember that your kingdom has come, that it is growing among us now, and that the time will come when it fills the world with justice and love. And so we pray for your coming, to those around the world whose poverty, pain, trauma, and grief make your kingdom feel like a pipe dream; to those in our community who long to see your love and justice expressed through your followers; to those in your Church who seek to be faithful and to make a difference while juggling the needs of themselves and their families; and to us, who long to know you more, and to live as citizens of your kingdom in this place and time. May your coming be something we hope for, but also be something we experience moment by moment. In Jesus’ Name; Amen.
