| 8:30AM -Mimosa/Azalea-

Let’s kick off 2019 with some new exciting changes! The Wellness Center will be hosting a fitness showcase to help Residents see the different types of exercises conducted in the weekly group fitness classes. The Fitness Showcase will start at 8:30AM, so please arrive on time. Denice will not be able to demonstrate the water classes, but there will be an oral presentation on the different types of water classes. There will be a trail mix bar of dry cereal and nuts, fresh fruit, muffins, coffee, and water. After the showcase, Denice will offer a Q & A discussion to go over any fitness questions related to the class demonstrations.

The newly added classes, schedule changes, and the fitness class descriptions will be addressed. It’s important to understand the fitness training involved in each class to maximize the physiological benefits during exercise. Denice has learned through observation, small group training, and one-on-one coaching sessions that Residents are dedicated to living an active lifestyle to keep their independence. With a variety of classes and adapting an Active Aging Functional fitness program, Residents will continue to maintain lean muscle mass, strength, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and balance. There will be no classes offered on this day. Denice will be available after the showcase, Thursday, and Friday before or after the newly featured class schedule to answer any questions or to schedule your individual fitness assessment. Volunteers Needed: Denice needs your help to give Residents a first-hand look of what each fitness class entails, as well as the types of fitness

equipment used in each class. Residents interested in volunteering to be a part of

the fitness showcase can sign up with Denice. (At least six individuals are needed for each class demonstration). There will be sign up sheets in the

Classes are free of charge, but you do need a partner. However, if you just want to come and watch, that’s fine too. Dancing is fun, good exercise, and a great way to make new friends.

| 7PM | Club 22 The December monthly meeting of the Towers Literary Club was on Tuesday, December 4

th, in the Towers

Club. The book for discussion Forest Dark by Nicole Krauss was presented and reviewed by Dr. Julia Cunarro-Ramirez. The three aspects of the novel: 1. The story of Jules Epstein, a man whose drive, avidity, and outsized personality have, for sixty-eight years, been a force to be reckoned with, 2. The first person narrator who is a writer inflicted with the writer’s block, and 3. The fictionalized and morphed character, Kafka. The biography of Kafka became the centerpiece of the group’s discussion. Dr. Harold Brannan brought copies of his third novel, The Point, and graciously offered them autographed as author’s gift to the members. Regarding future meetings: 1. Please note that because of the New Year’s holidays, the January meeting is moved to the second Tuesday, January 8

th, at 7PM in the Club on the 22

nd floor. The book for

the January is Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, the winner of the Noble Prize in Literature. 2. Dr. Brannan will present his third novel, The Point, at the February 5

I AM ON THE OUTSIDE AND THE INSIDE! This poem was submitted by Bea Rosencutter to Linda Shipman

I am Neurofibromatosis! Sometimes I am on the inside, & sometimes

on the out.

On the outside you can see my pain. On the inside you can not.

You see if I am on the outside you see my problems.

But if I am on the inside you can not. If I am on the outside I may look fine, and I may

looked different. But I am on the inside I am considered a time

bomb waiting to go off. But my pain runs deeper than anything I have

ever known. The pain of growing up with ridicule, and made fun of.

They say sticks and stones will break your bones but names will never hurt you.

Meet someone with NEUROFIBROMATOSIS and ask them what do names do to you.

You see if I was a different disease you would know what I was, but with

NEUROFIBROMATOSIS you don’t. There is no cause for me or no cure, but I exist

even if you have never heard of me. So please don’t stare and make private

comments, if you are interested and wonder what is wrong, give the person who has me a chance

to explain and educate you on what I am. I want to be cured. So please pray that the

people working on a cure and cause can find it. So I can be put away with and the people who have me won’t have the pain or problems that I

cause. To the people who have me, I am sorry I have

caused you pain and problems. I am hoping you can REACH A CURE!!!!

Do these items belong to you? They were left at the Potluck and Game Night event on Sunday. They are in Resident Services if you would like to retrieve them.

We would like to offer a bus to the

Harlem Globetrotters on Thursday,

January 30th. We would need a

minimum number of attendees. If you

would like to attend please see Victoria in

Resident Services for more information.
